Chapter 194: Leaving It To Him

Chapter 194: Leaving It To Him

Viviana did not get offended by him calling her a fool. She didn’t know what she said was foolish though. Is he saying that believing Gabby is foolish?

"Last year, Gabby was hospitalized for "flu" coincidentally on the day she was supposed to be with Don Waldorf. If you ask around, you will find out that she had her stomach pumped out after she was found in her bathtub having ingested a bottle full of sleeping pills," Viviana said.

Yeah, Gabby went that far to avoid being with Lionel’s father.

Gabby didn’t want anyone to know this. But Viviana found it was necessary for Leander should know this. Yes, it is breaching Gabby’s privacy. But Leander has to know the damage he has caused by blindly supporting his brother all these years.

Leander went silent and knitted his brows. Viviana wondered if he knew about it already. Maybe he didn’t know the reason.

Or maybe he started to think.

"Gabby does not want Lionel to know. She does not want to drive a wedge farther between a father and son. She said she understood that Don Waldorf did what he did out of the care of his son. And you know how Lionel’s going to react if he knows the truth. Your friendship will suffer too," Viviana said.

She could have been a lot blunter. But she didn’t want to hurt Leander. But he needs to understand that if only he bothered to listen to Gabriella, she would have been out of that place a lot earlier.

"She did not willingly sign the contract. She was trafficked by coercion. You were the only one who could have helped her. She kept it from Lionel because she didn’t want your friendship to suffer and for Evander to not release the tape. This is the truth. Do with it what you will. And if you care, she is not the only one in Venus Point with this story. There are others."

Leander pinched his glabella with his head bowed. Viviana leaned back on the couch. She didn’t think she can add anything further. If he is not convinced by this, then, it is up to him.

She did deliberate if she should bring up his first love. She really thought that Evander must have had a hand in Helena breaking up with him. Surely, Helena’s mother had a part too, but she didn’t think Evander played no part in it.

But then, she decided not to bring that up. Helena is married to another man and is a mother. It would do no one any good if they still talk about the past.

And... she had a personal ball in the game too. Why would she want her husband to pine over his first love when there is no chance for them to be together?

Yeah, she was selfish. But she didn’t think that she was wrong.

Leander didn’t know what to believe. She cannot come in one night and try to say that everything he believed is wrong. But she has a track record of being truthful. Everything she talked about his family that he thought was embellished lies, turned out to be the truth.

And when it comes to Evander, how can he not trust her?

And he did hear that Brie attempted to kill herself. He didn’t bother to investigate further because he didn’t want Lionel to leave his work and return to the country. He helped cover up the news of her getting admitted to the hospital. He changed the hospital records to state that she had the flu.

His heart sank to his stomach.

If she is telling the truth, then that means, he did a grave mistake by never listening to Brie’s side of the story. He thought he was righteous in his anger. He thought he was right to ignore her because she didn’t trust him and went to his brother.

She is right. Brie could have caused a ruckus and broken the friendship between him and Lionel. Lionel would have believed her no matter what she said. He is that smitten with her. But she never did.

There could be truth in all her statements. And if he learns the truth, there is the risk that he might turn out to be an unreliable friend who could never be trusted.

Is that who he was all this time? What was he even doing? What has he achieved all this time?

"I will look into it," Leander said and stood up. "If I find out they are lies..." he gritted his teeth and leaned toward her.

Viviana leaned back and closed her eyes. She hoped there are enough proof for him to find.

His warm breath was so close to her face and she gulped as he didn’t move away for a long time. She opened her eyes to see him bending over to her eye level, staring at her.

"What?" she asked.

"Do I brood a lot?" he asked.

"Huh?" she raised her brows.

What is he talking about?

"Did you forget already?" Leander leaned closer. "You said I have a brooding charisma."

Viviana puckered her lips. She did say that in a flow. But she didn’t understand why he suddenly skipped there. Wasn’t he threatening her just a minute ago?

"You are a weird guy," she pushed him away. This time, she succeeded in pushing him away maybe because he too wanted to walk away.

He was walking to the door with a bright smile on his face.

"You are handsome... I thought you’re handsome like the devil," she said. He stopped by the door and looked at her.

"But your eyes..." she continued as her eyes ended up on those beautiful irises. "They remind me of someone I treasured...Someone who never hurt me, someone...an angel—my guardian angel."

"A man?" he asked.

Weird, she thought. Why would he assume it was a man?

"A girl... Leona," she bowed her head. "She’s dead."

Leander’s heart skipped a beat. That was the name of one of the characters in her story.

She was real?

If he asked for the full name, what answer will he get?

Will it be Leona Viceroy?

And who would the main character be? Was it a story about herself?

If so, could her name be Melanie?

But Melanie is dead.

Is she another friend of Leona Viceroy? Is she the girl I see in my dreams?
