Chapter 195: Sneaking In
Chapter 195: Sneaking In
Viviana was sitting on the couch fiddling with her fingers.
"Was that girl very important to you?" Leander asked.
Viviana looked at him. She couldn’t even smile as her heart filled with sorrow remembering Leona. "Very much. She was my Leo, my angel, my defender... And she never hurt me... the only friend I had when everyone avoided me like the devil."
Leander pressed his lips.
’Joe’s coming Leo’
He remembered the words she uttered that day. Those words shook him to the core.
"The Leo you mentioned on the rooftop that day...?" he asked. He didn’t have the guts to hear her answer. He didn’t want to. But he had asked her before he decided not to.
"It was her. I wanted to go to her, but you stopped me," She smiled wryly.
"Who is Joe?" he asked. Of course, she is sad about him saving her life. If the Leo she mentioned was a man, he would have thought that she was still in love with him. But it was a girl.
And yet...
Viviana wetted her lips. She didn’t think that he still wants to talk about that. He still remembered what she whispered a very long time ago. She didn’t know what to think of that.
It was obvious both had made an impression on the other that day on the rooftop.
I am Jo, she wanted to say. I am the Jophiel you tattooed on your chest.
But she didn’t want to endanger Father Flannagan. If she tells him who she is, then the Kastello family will go against Father Flannagan and the few others who know the secret of the fire. She didn’t want to put their lives in danger.
Leander watched her go silent. He knew she won’t talk to him about it again. If he wanted to know, he should learn it by other means.
She already looked like she will kill him if he gives her a chance.
It made him think that the Leona she mentions and the Leona who died in the Abenney fire might be the same person.
"Come to the room after you compose yourself," he said and walked out of the office.
He cannot make her talk if she is not willing to. He will end up scaring her. She is already scared that he will hurt her.
And if she wants to kill him... What should he do?
He went to the bedroom and called Steve.
"Find out where my brother keeps his stashes of the tapes he made," he said.
He heard here and there that his brother has tapes. But he never believed those rumors to be true. He thought it would take a while for him to get to the bottom of it.
"It’s all stored in hard drives. He keeps them in his office," Steve answered almost immediately.
Leander was stunned. So, it was common knowledge that his brother keeps them.
"Bring them all to me. Everything..." Leander said. "Even if it is from two decades back."
"Should we make copies or the original?" Steve asked.
If he wants copies, then they will have to send someone to sneak in. If he wants the originals, they can barge in and take everything. Leander is the heir. He can barge into his brother’s place if he wants to. That’s how it works.
"He need not know," Leander said. He feared if Evander would delete everything if he suspected it. Brie is in his house and already Evander might have deleted them. But even if he deleted it, it could be recovered.
"Go in tonight. It might be hard to find some, but I want everything," Leander added. "And if by chance you’re found out, don’t panic. You will have to leave with the hard drives."
"If you don’t mind, Capo... Which tape should I focus on?" Steve asked. He didn’t think that Leander wants to see the collections Evander has for artistic purposes.
Steve wondered if he stepped out of his lane as there was silence at the other end for a very long time. He almost apologized when Leander spoke.
"One with Brie. She would have been sixteen then," Leander said.
"Brie? As in Brie of Venus Point, Capo?" Steve asked.
Leander hummed.
"That one is in his room in Rose Gardens," Steve said enthusiastically. It won’t be hard to get a copy of that. The maids have reported to him that that tape is one of the few Evander watches while pleasuring himself.
Leander didn’t want to ask how Steve know about the details. He was more shocked to know it was such common knowledge. He already felt so disappointed for ignoring Brie.
But it still could be a consensual one... yeah...
Leander sat leaning on the headboard, waiting for Viviana. He checked his phone, and it was a quarter past ten. He sat closing his eyes. He couldn’t fall asleep without her by his side.
I shouldn’t have asked her to calm down before entering. What if she never calms down?
Leander sat there in the dark, waiting for her. Time trickled away, and his patience waned. He almost gave up and went looking for her.
But right then, he saw the door clicking open. Before he knew it, he slid inside the duvet and pulled it to cover himself.
He could see her shadow. She was holding something in her hands and for some odd reason, she was walking backward as she entered the room.
*Clink*
As she closed the door, he heard the clinking noise of metal against the floor. It was a knife.
His wife is bringing a knife inside the bedroom after he talked about Leona. He scoffed.
So, this is how it is going to end?
He had a gun under his pillow. If he extended his hand a little, he could grab the gun. But he couldn’t move. He didn’t want to move.
She picked up the knife and walked carefully around the bed, to his back. She was holding something else in her hands and he couldn’t figure out what it was.
But she smelled nice. Really really nice. The nice fragrance filled the entire room.
He heard her placing something on the breakfast table. And then she pulled out the chair and sat on it as if she was waiting.
What is she waiting for?
He heard her stumbling around behind him and at the same time, his phone screen lit up. He opened his eyes.
It was a text from Lionel.
[Happy Birthday]
At that time, he heard a whirring sound followed by the scent of phosphorous.
And then there was light.
What is going on?
