Chapter 192: Is It Too Much?

Viviana walked out of the room with a heavy heart. She was sad to hear what Gabriella wanted. She didn’t know what to do.

Gabriella wanted to be alone. She also didn’t want to eat with Leander even if he permitted her to. And Viviana could sense that Gabriella was afraid Lionel might come for a visit. She was scared to meet him after breaking his heart. She acknowledged what she did to him was terrible. And she hoped that it would help him move on.

Viviana waited for Leander in the living room. She was in no mood for preparing dinner, but she had asked Leander for fish. She prepared her heart to cook dinner.

Leander came home with a proud smile and bags of fresh fish as if he had caught them himself. She thanked him and got the bag. With the help of the maids and the chef, she finished cooking. As always, she prepared some for the cats too. Most of the time, she cooked fresh meals for the cats too.

She is scared of them and that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t consider them living beings. And Leander seemed to be very affectionate towards them. She wanted those cats to be healthy for his sake.

The dishes looked nice, and they smelled nice, but Viviana was not hungry.

She saw Leander was very excited about the dinner. She was glad she cooked for him. And like always, he savored her cooking.

She wanted to be with him, but when she looked at him, she had a sharp pain in her heart. She couldn’t get over the fact that he let down everyone who loved him just for his brother.

He asked her to serve him apple slices. When she was preparing the slices in the kitchen, he came to the kitchen to ask her to sit beside him and do it.

That is a weird request, she thought. But she obliged him nonetheless.

He won’t usually watch the news, but that day he watched the news. Sitting beside him on the couch, Viviana peeled and sliced the apples. She even made them look like little bunnies. She learned to cut apples that way back in Abenney after seeing Leona’s mother cutting apples that way.

Although he didn’t sigh much, he kept on staring at her for some reason. She thought she had actually gone bald by his stare.

She didn’t bother to ask him why he was staring at her that way. Her chest was heavy. She had forgotten that tomorrow was his birthday and she was planning on baking a cake for him.

When it was ten to nine, he wanted to go to bed. She stood up with him and walked to the kitchen.

"You’re not coming?" he asked.

Viviana pointed at the plate in her hand. "I’ll be in a..."

As she was speaking, Katerina came out of nowhere and got the plate from her hand. Viviana had to follow Leander upstairs.

She followed Leander a couple of feet behind, with her head bowed. She just wanted to sleep. She was so tired. But then her head hit something hard, and she came to a halt.

She lifted her head up to see Leander standing in front of her. He did not look impressed. He then sighed. A very deep sigh that scared her.

Okay, what did I do wrong?

"Look..." he lifted his hand and Viviana took a couple of steps back out of instinct. She was not thinking straight and when she saw the unimpressed look combined with him lifting his hand, she instinctively stepped away from him.

But that apparently hurt him more. She could see his eyes losing focus as if he was questioning himself. She felt bad. She really didn’t think that he would hurt her. She didn’t know why she did what she did.

Biting his lower lip, he looked at her. His hand plopped down as if he had lost all his strength.

"All right," he took in a deep breath. "Get in," he said and walked to the office.

Viviana gulped. She didn’t know why they are going to the office. She does not like that place much.

Leander stopped by the office door as she was not moving. He turned and looked at her.

"You’re obviously worrying about something. Let’s solve your problem first," he said.

"It’s nothing," Viviana bowed her head. She has a lot of problems. None of them could be solved. What can he do about them?

He sighed, this time—loudly.

"I want my wife in that room...happy," he said pointing at the bedroom. "And not like...however you are now... Is that too much to ask of you?" he said. His voice shook a little as he spoke the last part.

"...No," she said wetting her lips.

He opened the door for her, and she stepped in.

"Sit," he pointed at the couch. She did. "You want a drink?" he asked pointing at the bar.

Viviana shook her head. She was not in the mood to drink hard liquor.

"So, what is bothering you?" he asked.

Viviana looked at his face. He looked very exasperated. She knew she was pushing his buttons. So, she decided to be as honest as she can possibly be.

"I don’t feel safe attending the party..." she stopped herself as she only then remembered that tomorrow is his birthday.

She wanted to prepare a cake and yet she’s here sulking about stuff that cannot be changed.

"I’m going to be coming with you. Do you not feel safe with me?" Leander asked.

Viviana looked up.

Right! If he asks this question, how is she going to answer him?

"It’s different when it’s .... The other day he tried to undress me in~"

"Did he succeed?" he asked.

Viviana shrank in her seat. Her back was hunched and her chin got closer to her knees as she wanted to hug herself. She knew she was digging a hole for her and she is hurting Leander along the way too.

She regretted bringing that topic up. Of course, he is not going to care about what she feels.

"Do you remember what I told you this morning?" he asked.

Viviana nodded. "I do."

Leander’s sharp eyes were fixed on her unwaveringly. "Then you shall have no problem attending the party."

"I do not want to see him," she looked at him. She didn’t think that she can be any franker than this. "I do not want him to see me either."

Leander pressed his lips and leaned back on the couch leisurely. "Why? Are you feeling guilty to face him?"
