Chapter 138: For Love’s Sake
Chapter 138: For Love’s Sake
Viviana continued her act of somberly looking at the floor waiting for his answer. She knew she had exposed herself. And all that’s left for her is to face his reaction.
Silence ruled over the empty restroom for some time. Silence that made Viviana restless.
"Fair enough," Leander said breaking the silence.
His gentle but sure voice was strong as the sound of a stream. Viviana looked at him as his reaction was not what she expected. What did she expect? She wasn’t clear. But his gentle tone was not what she expected.
That girl used to be his fiancée and currently his brother’s object of affection. He wouldn’t let this go, not at least without asking her questions.
Maybe he is unaffected because she has now given more reasons for Peter to hate her. It’s all stacking up. And her end is nearing. Who knows? Fedora man is a member of the Kastello family! Maybe she is to be killed in this mall. Maybe that’s why she didn’t have security.
Well, she didn’t care. Not that much.
But he did look calm and indifferent.
Leander indeed was indifferent. If he had to put a name to the feeling he suppressed, it was pride. His wife can retribute according to the hurt she received. He should have known after what she did to his brother. But she still has it in her.
He didn’t think that this would become an issue. His brother won’t even mind that kid anymore after she is foolish enough to shave her head for likes. It’s all on record unless it gets deleted... He should take care of it.
His wife did it smartly, enough to wash her hands off this issue. The story she said absolves her. And that’s the story he is going to stick to.
But why is she looking at him like this? Is she that surprised?
Their effort in trying to understand the thought of the other by staring at each other was disturbed when the door to the restroom opened.
"You can’t be here," Viviana held Leander’s hand unconsciously.
She knew it would be humiliating if someone catches him here. And her heart skipped a beat seeing Tabitha Bruno walking in. Why is she still here? Viviana wondered.
Murphy’s law, that’s why... She concluded. If anything can go wrong, it will. If it can’t go wrong, it will go wrong anyway. It’s her fate. Her entire life is the perfect example of Murphy’s law.
Tabitha entered the restroom and she didn’t even flinch seeing Leander there. Leander pressed his lips and glared at the woman smiling at him as if she means anything to him.
Viviana realized her blunder when Leander got his hand out of her hold. He wouldn’t have been pleased to be held by the wrist like a little boy. Before she could take a step back, he held her hand and walked toward the exit.
"Hello, Leander. I’ve been trying to~"
Leander didn’t even mind her and held the handle of the door to open it wide to get out. But Tabitha closed the door using her full force.
"I have to tell you something important. Please... please listen..." Tabitha begged and her eyes filled with tears. Viviana felt bad for that old lady. "If..." Tabitha looked at Viviana. "Alone. I don’t want this woman~"
"Woman?" Leander scoffed. Shaking his head, he pulled the handle with all his might. "She is my wife!" he said as Tabitha was pushed by the door and almost fell on the floor. "Came to beg me without knowing respect. Despicable!" he spoke gritting his teeth.
Viviana’s first instinct was to grab Tabitha by her arm to stop her from falling. But with a scoff, that woman slapped her hand off.
Leander grabbed Viviana by her arm. Why is this woman helping that old hag? She knows to be nice to everyone but him. He was angry.
His hold was tight and she gritted her teeth to not reveal her pain. She had angered him, it seemed. She bowed her head not to anger him further.
Leander realized that he had hurt her and immediately pulled her close by wrapping his arm around her shoulder. She didn’t try and get out of his hold and that gave his breath back.
Now, he was mad. Properly mad. And he had someone right in front of him to take his anger out.
"My better half will be here," he said holding the door open. Martha and Steve were standing by the door. He knew that’s how that woman knew he is inside the restroom. It was fine because they were just talking. What if they were doing something else? Would she have barged in then too? Why does she think that he owes her something?
"This will be the only time I offer to listen," he said.
If she is that desperate, she can risk the secret being spread. Otherwise, she can stop bothering him.
Tabitha was clearly in a dilemma. Her eyes filled with tears of hate and desperation. She spared a glance of despise at Viviana but quickly controlled herself as she knew Leander won’t take it kindly. Her lips trembled as she reached a decision.
"Helena... her life is in danger... Please help...I have a lot to say, but... please, help her. She needs you," Tabitha looked at Leander.
Viviana didn’t want to be there. It’s none of her business. It must hurt Leander to hear that. She thought he would show some emotions, but she couldn’t feel anything from him.
Leander scoffed. "Do you think I am running a social service organization here?"
Viviana’s first instinct was to look at him because it was a scoff she hears often when he doesn’t care, but she didn’t dare to. She didn’t want him to snap at her and pull her hair or something.
She thought that he said enough. She heard Tabitha letting out a sob closing her mouth. Her knees were trembling and she looked like she would drop on the floor any moment.
Viviana just wanted to leave. But his hands were still resting gently on her shoulder. She stayed.
"For the sake of your love... first love... that pure love you had for her... I know I screwed up. But for her, for your love..." Tabitha pleaded.
