Chapter 137: Lies
Chapter 137: Lies
Leander took a deep breath snapping out of his mistake. He cannot open up to her. What will she do?
And more importantly, what can he do if she says anything that he doesn’t want to hear?
What will she say when he says that a little mouse crept into that dangerously dark cave, shining a light, showing him how terrible of a place that is? What does he expect her to say when he says that the mouse had blurred the wall between the cave and the wilderness?
And that was the reason the lion snapped at the mouse at times, scaring her, having no leash on its monstrous tendencies. The lion can never hurt the mouse. And the lion wants the mouse with him forever.
And yet, the light shows the ugliness in him and around him. It confuses him to insanity and he lashes at the one shining the light rather than at the darkness. Forgive him, for he only knew the darkness. How can he react the right way?
He wondered what else the mouse can do for him. The dark cage is slowly disintegrating, and the wilderness in front of him is unsatisfying. He wants more. He doesn’t know what he wants for his future. But he wants more than the wilderness.
He is a lion, and she is a mouse. They don’t belong together. But why can’t he let her go?
And what will she say if he opens up that now he thinks that maybe the wilderness is not for him? Will she take him elsewhere?
No... No...
Leander took a deep breath and stood up. He placed his hand back in his pockets. Viviana let out a deep breath. Guess he is content with his life. She understood him. He’s too old to change his ways. And she was never hoping that he would change his ways.
He might have thought that she is trying to change him and maybe this was a warning. He’s the lion. And he is the owner. As long as he wishes, he will control the lion to obliterate his enemy. She is his enemy.
He shouldn’t have felt the need to reiterate this. She knows.
"You’re not very ugly in this hair," he said.
"Really?" Viviana’s face lit up and her fingers ended up on her hair gently caressing the curls.
"When are you going to tell me about what happened with that kid?" he asked.
He needs to know the truth in case his brother tries to get back at her. He was informed by reliable sources that the brat thinks that his wife was the reason she shaved her head.
Honestly, he doesn’t think that this one might be that good a manipulator. But if she did it, then well done to her. And eye for an eye, they say.
So, hair for hair is fair.
But his brother won’t think the same. He’ll find a reason to blame her. So, he wanted to hear her "version" of the story, even though he knew she will lie.
"Right," Viviana wetted her lips and turned to face him. She leaned on the counter and placed her purse on the counter just to gather her thoughts to lie perfectly.
She can not take responsibility for Nadia’s loss of hair or her lack of judgment. She was not willing to die for hair. Seriously, hair is not worth anywhere near life.
"Can you believe it, Kastello? Kids these days... Do you know Nadia thought I look like Monica Bellucci, the extremely hot actress?" she asked with her eyes wide.
Leander cleared his throat. He could see the resemblance now that he mentions it. He used to have that actress’ pictures a lot. Maybe he does have a preference for dark-haired, dark-eyed beauties. And the twins under her neck... Same...
"Where are you looking?" Viviana covered her chest with her arms.
"Yours are fake, right? Hers are real though," he looked away scratching the back of his head.
"Do I look like someone who would do a surgery for THAT?" she asked. "And why does your thought goes here talking about resemblance? People would generally assume facial features," she scoffed.
She is someone who is scared to so a necessary surgery in her uterus. Why would she dare to put herself under the knife for that procedure? She is a coward!
"Does mine feel fake to you?" she asked.
He’s the only one who touched them to his heart’s content. He should know.
"You don’t know?" Leander asked.
He didn’t like where the conversation is going. What would he know for real? Hers is the only boobs he touched all his life.
"I cannot go around touching women’s tits like you can," Viviana pouted.
How would she know?
"Why are you changing the topic?" he asked annoyed. He does not have answers to her perfectly logical questions. He can lie. But what can he say when he has no idea?
"Right," Viviana cleared her throat. "Ayla, that girl with Nadia, her friend, she says..." Viviana rolled her eyes. "That girl apparently has almost a million followers and wanted to reach a million. Nadia wanted to help in her father’s campaign and... both decided to donate their hair, right... Now, I know you cannot donate bleached hair. But I thought they knew it. It’s common knowledge, right? I thought both of them had only colored their hair. So, I kept quiet..."
She observed Leander to see if he is calling her bluff. She had already broken the cardinal rule of lying—don’t give out too many details. But he didn’t say anything and was donning his poker face. She continued.
"The commentors caught on to it, right? She had 35K people watching her cutting their hair..." She truly was surprised by that.
"35 thousand?" Leander too was surprised. "Are there that many jobless people in this world?" he mumbled.
Why would anyone want to watch a couple of kids cutting their hair? Weird people.
And how cute she is... She can’t even lie properly. Her whole narrative will come crashing down if he asks her why she was with them in the first place.
But he let her continue.
"So, just like that..." Viviana snapped her fingers, "Ayla announced that they were going to shave their head in solidarity with her neighbor’s kid or something, right? And she included Nadia too. The live streaming was going on and Nadia didn’t say anything. She couldn’t probably..."
Viviana sighed looking at the floor like a proper granny who is worried for her grandchild.
"Kids these days... for likes and acknowledgment from strangers on the internet, they are willing to do anything... What has the world come to!"
