Chapter 392: Depart Again
Chapter 392: Depart Again
Everything returned to normal once Asqa came back to the mansion. The servants immediately prepared dinner for them. After that, since Asqa was already exhausted, she went straight to rest.
A few days passed.
By this point, Clyde believed that the soldiers and servants in the mansion had likely figured out what was going on—who he truly was, and what was happening in the world outside the Ruins.
Even if they didn’t speak about it openly, Clyde was sure that Graemory, their master, had explained it to them through some means he didn’t know. She must have told them about the corruption spreading outside the Ruins, and the drastic changes that had taken place.
And that Clyde was one of the main causes behind those changes.
He could see the shift in their attitudes—how their demeanor had become more reverent toward him. They had already shown him a fair amount of respect back when he defeated Asmodeus during that challenge. But now, after Graemory had revealed more about him, their respect had deepened.
Clyde didn’t say anything to clarify or correct them. Let them think whatever they wanted about him, as long as they stayed here and didn’t bother him.
Two days passed.
Clyde hadn’t received any warnings or mental messages from the Ancient God, even though he hadn’t fulfilled his task of checking the realms of the other higher beings.
Clyde figured that Michael was probably handling the task himself and had already reported back to the Ancient One. So there wasn’t much to worry about for now.
The last piece of news Clyde had received was from Graemory—she told him that the higher beings were beginning to form alliances.
What was this about?
He always thought those higher beings despised one another, constantly scheming for even the slightest advantage over each other. And now, suddenly, they were forming alliances?
Would this make their destruction more difficult if they united?
"Hmm... this is not good. We need to kill them before their alliance becomes too strong," Clyde thought coldly.
Suddenly, the silver ring on Clyde’s finger began to glow and vibrate. It was the same ring Michael had given him, the one that allowed them to communicate across realms.
Clyde narrowed his eyes and channeled a thin stream of magic power into the ring. Almost immediately, a voice echoed in his mind.
"Something big has really happened right now," Michael’s voice was urgent, low, and steady. "I’m in Olympus right now. The other Archangels and I are meeting with Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades."
Clyde’s eyes sharpened. Olympus. Zeus, Poseidon, Hades—those names weren’t simple names. They were real powerhouses. Ancient. Powerful. And now they were the first to respond to the looming threat by gathering with the Archangels?
That couldn’t be good.
If those three had joined forces with Archangels, it meant the balance was shifting, and not in the Ancient One’s favor.
Michael’s voice continued, "I’ve also heard that in other realms, the major figures from each Celestial Domain are gathering as well. They’re discussing an alliance. If this is true, then things are about to get very difficult for us. Carrying out the Ancient One’s will won’t be easy anymore."
There was a pause. Then Michael asked, "Do you have any ideas about what you will do from now?"
Clyde’s response came immediately. "We have to stop the meetings. I’ll go and attack them now."
"What’s your plan?" Michael asked, a beat of hesitation in his tone.
Clyde smirked. "Terror. I’ll sow chaos. I’ll spread the corruption further, make them anxious and unsure about what they need to do next. If I strike now while they’re still uncertain, we might keep them from uniting."
Michael was silent for a few seconds before finally responding. "Alright. I’ll stay and listen. Maybe I can gather more information from this side before they finalize anything. I can’t expose myself yet."
"Understood. I’ll move."
"Do whatever you want, just... don’t expose me," Michael warned.
"Heh, don’t worry," Clyde replied, his voice cool and confident.
The connection cut off. The ring dimmed.
Clyde lowered his hand, a flicker of darkness dancing behind his eyes.
Outside, the world was shifting and powers were starat to rise. But he would be the storm that shattered their unity before it could take shape.
Clyde immediately got up from his bed, strapping on his Elderglass sword and throwing on his silver coat.
The air around him pulsed with quiet intensity as he stepped out of his room. Just outside, he ran into Asqa who appearantly also heading to his room.
She glanced at his attire. It was the outfit unmistakably meant for battle, and raised an eyebrow.
"You’re heading out to fight again?" she asked, her voice calm but curious. Her eyes lit in something that looks like excitement.
"Yes," Clyde replied without hesitation.
"I want to come with you," Asqa said eagerly.
Clyde turned to her, narrowing his eyes slightly. "This will be dangerous, Asqa. Just like any other time that I stepped outside this mansion."
Asqa smiled. "I’ve already reached level 110," she said proudly. "And I’ve gotten a bunch of skills from the monsters I’ve killed. My strength’s been rising fast."
Clyde blinked, caught off guard. He hadn’t realized how much progress she’d made in such a short time. Level 110 was no small feat and the fact she’d managed it while just staying in this Ruin said a lot about her determination.
After a brief pause, Clyde gave a small nod. "Alright. You can come."
Asqa beamed, then turned on her heel and headed back toward her room to gear up for battle.
Clyde watched her go for a moment. A part of him still wanted to shield her from what was coming, but another part, the one hardened by war and his purrpose, knew that she would have to face it sooner or later.
And if she was truly ready... then this would be her trial by fire. He don’t know how long he can protect her after all.
