Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Be Mentally Prepared
"Mom," Cooper Coldson suddenly turned around, interrupting Isabella Ross, "How is Grandpa doing?"
"The doctor is upstairs, I think he will be down soon." Isabella Ross coldly glanced at Yolanda Greenwood, "You better behave yourself."
Yolanda didn’t want to deal with her, especially since she was about to divorce Cooper and would no longer have to endure the Coldson Family.
The three of them waited in the living room for a while, then saw a tall man enter.
The man wore a grey and white casual outfit, seemingly in his early thirties, exuding an air of nobility with a hint of a smile in his eyes and eyebrows.
It was Old Master Coldson’s second son, Cooper’s uncle, Christopher Coldson.
"Sister-in-law!" Christopher entered, first nodding to Isabella Ross.
Isabella Ross forced a smile but said nothing.
She didn’t like Christopher much, even despised him.
In her eyes, this uncle was just a lazy parasite, living off her and her young son.
Christopher was used to Isabella’s attitude and nonchalantly took a seat on the couch.
"Little Cooper, Yolanda, you’re back too," he stroked his chin, glancing upstairs, "Looks like the Old Master is really in a bad situation this time."
"Shut your cursed mouth," Isabella Ross snapped coldly.
Christopher shrugged indifferently and continued with a grin, "Sister-in-law, birth, aging, sickness, and death are natural laws, unavoidable for anyone. Try to accept it."
Isabella Ross glared at him, somewhat regretting having called him back, but considering the Old Master’s recent condition...
At that moment, Old Master Coldson’s private doctor finally came downstairs.
Isabella Ross, Cooper, and Yolanda immediately stood up, anxiously looking his way.
Only Christopher remained nonchalantly seated, appearing indifferent.
"How is he?" Isabella Ross asked.
To her, the Old Master was not only a father and a mentor but even more important than her husband.
In her view, as long as the Old Master lived, the Coldson Family would continue to prosper.
For many years, even though Old Master Coldson had long stopped dealing with affairs, he was still the anchor in Isabella Ross’s heart.
"The Old Master’s condition isn’t very good," the private doctor sighed softly, "I will do my best, but you all should be prepared."
Isabella Ross swayed slightly, unsteady.
Cooper supported her from behind and asked, "How much time do we have?"
"If things don’t go well," the private doctor sighed again, "it might not be more than three months."
"Little Cooper!" Isabella turned her head, tears streaming down her face.
Yolanda stood behind them, equally distressed, bowed her head, and tears continued to fall.
Then, she felt someone gently pat her shoulder.
She turned around to find it was Christopher.
Yolanda was slightly surprised, for his usual jesting demeanor was gone.
He looked genuinely upset.
After seeing off the private doctor, everyone sat back in the living room.
Yolanda occasionally looked upstairs, longing to check on Old Master Coldson.
"Mom," Cooper said softly, a rare tenderness in his voice, "you should rest in your room for a bit, I’ll go up and see Grandpa."
Isabella Ross pinched her forehead, weary, with no intention of resting.
She waved her hand, indicating that Cooper could go as he wished.
Cooper stood up, looking at the nervous Yolanda beside him, "Let’s go together."
"Why should she go?" Isabella Ross opened her eyes, clearly reluctant, "Grandpa is still resting. Too many visitors will disturb him, you go by yourself."
"I’ll just take a peek at the door, I won’t make a sound," Yolanda Greenwood immediately promised — she really wanted to go.
Isabella Ross still wanted to stop her when Cooper Coldson spoke up, "Alright. Let her come along."
So, Yolanda followed Cooper upstairs cautiously.
As soon as they left, Isabella Ross muttered suspiciously, "This is really odd."
In the past in the Coldson Family, no matter how much she scolded Yolanda, Cooper would never intervene, he would even abet her.
But today, Cooper seemed noticeably strange.
Sitting across, Christopher Coldson spoke up with a smile, "Sister-in-law, it’s not strange for a married couple who sleep together every night to have some affection."
Isabella Ross glared at him, feeling even more displeased in her heart.
She had already disagreed with this marriage, and she could tolerate Cooper’s previous attitude.
But if Cooper really was going to accept Yolanda as his wife, Isabella Ross was utterly opposed.
Yolanda followed Cooper to Old Master Coldson’s door, where Cooper pushed the door open and Yolanda stood at the doorway, craning her neck to look inside.
Cooper turned back and looked at her speechlessly, "Come in."
Yolanda paused for a moment and then whispered, "Thank you."
Nurses were watching over the room, and as they saw them come in, one immediately approached quietly, "Young Master, Young Madam, you’re here—just right, the Old Master has woken up, please come in."
She gave them a slight nod and then tiptoed away.
"Is it Little Cooper and Yolanda who have come?"
Old Master Coldson’s weak voice came from inside.
Yolanda’s nose suddenly tingled, and tears began to fall.
"No crying," Cooper instructed without even looking back.
Yolanda quickly wiped her tears, took a few deep breaths, and composed herself.
Upon entering, they saw Old Master Coldson half-reclining on the bed, smiling and waving at them.
Next spring, Old Master Coldson would be eighty.
The hard work and hustle of his youth made him appear even older than his peers, his white hair and frail body evident.
Yet his eyes were clear, without the cloudiness typical of the elderly.
He immediately noticed the white bandage on Yolanda’s wrist, "Yolanda, what happened to your wrist?"
In her haste, Yolanda had forgotten to remove the bandage.
She immediately put her hand behind her back, "It’s nothing, just a small injury, it’s no bother now."
Old Master Coldson cast a reproachful look at Cooper, his voice authoritative, "Is that so?"
"Um," Cooper’s gaze shifted slightly.
"You bastard!" Old Master Coldson thumped the bed forcefully, "What kind of man are you to bully your wife?"
"Grandpa!" Yolanda quickly stepped forward, after all, this time it really wasn’t directly Cooper’s fault.
She carefully sat on the edge of the bed and softly soothed the old man, "Grandpa, it’s really nothing, it wasn’t Cooper’s doing, I was just careless."
"It can’t be completely unrelated to that boy."
Old Master Coldson glared at Cooper again, then looked at Yolanda with pity, "Let Grandpa take a look."
Yolanda quickly shook her head, her hand was not very functional right now, she wouldn’t dare let the old man take a close look.
"It’s really okay," she rapidly shook it, trying to gloss over.
But what kind of person was Old Master Coldson? How could he be easily deceived?
He set his face, "Be obedient, hand it over, let Grandpa take a good look."
