Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Are you blind or is it your heart that is blind too?

Yolanda Greenwood looked to Cooper Coldson for help but saw him reluctantly nod in agreement.

Out of options, Yolanda stretched out her hand. "Grandpa, it’s really okay now, it’ll be better soon."

Old Master Coldson’s hand was very thin, the bones clearly visible, and while the back of his hand was covered with age spots, his palm was exceptionally warm.

He gently touched Yolanda’s fingers and then, with concern, lifted his head. "Child, with your hand injured like this, will you still be able to paint?"

Yolanda’s heart skipped a beat. She hurriedly cast her eyes down and lied with a smile, "Yes, I can, in a few days."

Old Master Coldson turned to Cooper. "You tell me."

"If she doesn’t cooperate with the treatment, she’ll never be able to paint with her right hand again," Cooper explained calmly.

"Cooper!" Yolanda glared at him angrily, then quickly checked Old Master Coldson’s reaction, seeing him looking utterly lost.

"Grandpa, don’t listen to Cooper’s nonsense. My hand is fine; I will take good care of it."

Yolanda didn’t want her grandfather to worry about her.

Old Master Coldson let out a deep sigh; he looked seriously at both of them.

"What in the world happened to you two?"

Yolanda stood up and silently positioned herself beside Cooper.

"Speak," the old master said, his voice trembling slightly.

Yolanda bit her lip but couldn’t bring herself to say it, no matter what.

When she had married into the Coldson family during those tough times, it was Old Master Coldson who had always encouraged and cared for her. She had promised him that she would never give up on Cooper.

But now, she had gone back on her word.

She couldn’t carry on.

She had thought that after they divorced, she could calmly tell Old Master Coldson, but now... she simply couldn’t say it.

"We’re getting a divorce," Cooper finally said.

"What?" Old Master Coldson was startled, almost fainting again.

Yolanda had not visited him for so long, and though he had somewhat guessed, hearing it from Cooper was still unbearably painful.

Melissa was a good girl; he wasn’t mistaken about her. Cooper was lucky to have married her, and it was a fortune for the Coldson family as well.

The old man, who had spent a lifetime dominating the business world, now had an expression as pitiful as a child denied candy.

He looked towards Yolanda.

Yolanda, holding back tears, nodded.

With things as they were, there was no point in hiding it anymore.

"Is it you who wants the divorce?" Old Master Coldson then turned his gaze to Cooper. "You damned fool, are you blind and heartless?"

"Grandpa," Yolanda began apologetically, "this time, it’s not just Cooper. I also want to divorce."

Old Master Coldson glanced at Yolanda and then closed his eyes wearily, issuing his final verdict, "I don’t approve of the divorce."

"You can leave now." He lay down with his back to them, his voice muffled. "If you consider me already dead, then do as you please."

"Grandpa..." Yolanda still wanted to say something.

"Get out," Old Master Coldson had issued his order to dismiss them.

"Let’s go," said Cooper, taking the lead to leave.

"Grandpa, then we will leave now; please take care of your health."

Yolanda was in agony because she knew all too well that this might be the last time she ever saw Old Master Coldson.

After descending the stairs, Isabella Ross announced that the guest room was ready and suggested they return tomorrow.

Cooper glanced at Yolanda, seemingly asking for her opinion.

Yolanda nodded; they had previously lived in the old house, and leaving now would only sadden the old master further.

"Little Cooper, come to the study, I have something to discuss with you," Isabella stood up and said.

"You go to bed first, don’t wait for me," Cooper said as he followed Isabella upstairs.

Once they had left, only Yolanda and Christopher Coldson remained in the living room.

Christopher cast a meaningful glance at the bandage on Yolanda’s wrist and clicked his tongue twice. "Did Melissa Greenwood really do this?"

"Hm?" Yolanda was slightly surprised; how did Christopher know her injury was related to Melissa?

Did Cooper say something?

Yolanda thought it unlikely.

But she couldn’t think of anyone else.

"Yolanda," Christopher leaned in, full of gossip, "what kind of spell did Melissa Greenwood cast on Cooper?"

"Christopher," Yolanda said awkwardly as she stood up, "It’s late; I am going to rest upstairs now. You should rest early too."

Thankfully, Christopher knew when to stop and waved Yolanda off.

As she passed by the study, Yolanda noticed the door was left ajar, with the voices of mother and son audible inside.

"It’s been a year, and her belly is still quiet?"

This was Isabella’s voice.

Cooper didn’t speak.

Isabella’s voice rang out again, "No news is good news; just hurry up and divorce her. I never approved of the despicable tactics she and her mother used to get in the door. If not for the old master..."

"You know what the old master wants, so why bring this up now?"

Cooper finally spoke up.

"What do you mean?" Isabella’s voice rose. "Haven’t you always wanted to divorce her?"

"No particular meaning," Cooper’s voice was calm. "The old master’s health isn’t good right now; let’s talk about other things later."

Isabella’s tone softened a bit. "As long as you haven’t changed your mind, it’s okay."

She sighed lightly. "The past is past, I don’t want to dwell on it, but you’ve been married a year and she hasn’t conceived; it means you’re not destined. You don’t need to waste any more effort on her."

"I heard Melissa’s back, have you seen her?"

"Mom, if there’s nothing else, I’m going back."

Cooper turned to leave.

"You, child," Isabella’s voice rose again, "when you have time invite her over for dinner, mingle more with the family, and maybe your grandfather will change his mind."

Cooper didn’t reply and upon opening the door, saw Yolanda standing at the threshold.

Yolanda looked at him and then, without saying a word, went to her room.

Cooper followed.

Once the room door was closed, Yolanda spoke indifferently, "I didn’t mean to eavesdrop; I just happened to hear my name mentioned and so I listened a bit longer."

Cooper didn’t say anything, took his pajamas, and went to take a shower.

Yolanda sat by the window for a while, her thoughts drifting to Gemma Morgan in the hospital.

She had sent several messages throughout the day but had not received any reply.

She decided to try calling.

Unexpectedly, the call connected and she immediately said with relief, "Eldest Aunt, how are you?"

"What face do you have to call here?" It was Melissa who answered.

Yolanda grew even more uneasy. "Has Eldest Aunt not woken up yet?"

"What does it concern you?" Melissa’s voice was full of spite. "Don’t think that just because you gave a little blood to me, our family is going to be grateful. My mom’s emergency room visit is all because of you."

Melissa’s heart ached. "Indeed, I was wrong; I shouldn’t have mentioned your affairs to Eldest Aunt."

Melissa frowned. "What exactly did you tell my mom?"
