Chapter 480: Chapter 480: Do You Suspect That I Have a Mental Problem?
Yolanda Greenwood looked at Adam Sterling, who now seemed normal again, and couldn’t help but feel as if she were dreaming, as if the person who had just lost their temper at her and Ella wasn’t standing before her.
She stepped forward and asked with concern, "Adam, have you been under too much pressure lately?"
Adam looked at her nervously.
"Adam, you are a psychologist yourself; some things I don’t need to say for you to understand," Yolanda Greenwood was genuinely worried about him, "your emotional state has been really unstable recently. Maybe I should accompany you to the hospital?"
"What do you mean?" Adam Sterling countered, "Are you suspecting I’ve had a mental breakdown?"
"No, of course not." Yolanda Greenwood shook her head. She just thought Adam might be too anxious, but it was clear Adam didn’t see it that way.
She had no choice but to give up. After all, Adam was an expert in this field and should be aware of his own condition. "Never mind, Adam, I mean no harm. If you think everything’s fine, then let’s tidy up and go out to eat."
She turned to leave but remembered something and turned back to say, "Adam, since your father is gone, whatever the circumstances, you should observe a seven-day mourning period for him. Let’s talk about registering later, when you’re feeling better."
"Alright." Adam Sterling agreed and added, "Yolanda, don’t worry, I’m fine. The psychological clinic will open in a few days, and everything will be alright."
Yolanda Greenwood nodded and turned to leave.
In the following days, everything was as usual. Adam Sterling seemed to have returned to being a reliable and trustworthy person, and Cooper Coldson no longer appeared in Yolanda Greenwood’s life.
Soon, it was the opening day of the psychological clinic. Adam Sterling had invited quite a few people, all of them prominent figures in the field of psychology, including his former mentor, Professor Serena Seward.
The clinic was named Heart Island Counseling Room, with Adam Sterling serving as the chief physician, along with several nurses hired.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was successfully held by Adam Sterling and Serena Seward together.
After the ceremony, Professor Serena Seward was preparing to leave to catch a flight to Country M to attend several criminal psychology lectures.
Yolanda Greenwood and Adam Sterling saw her off together.
"Professor, I’m really happy that you could come today," Adam Sterling beamed, "It’s a pity we don’t have time to sit down and have a proper chat."
Serena Seward smiled gently, "Little Sterling, seeing you open your own psychological counseling practice makes me happy too. Keep it up, wherever I am, I’ll be rooting for you."
"Thank you, Professor." Adam Sterling bowed respectfully.
Yolanda Greenwood, holding Little Ella by her side, started to speak softly, "Ella, quickly thank the wise master."
"Thank you, wise master," Little Ella said obediently, "Come and visit whenever you have time."
"Alright, what a good child." Serena Seward lastly turned her gaze to Yolanda Greenwood, "You must be Yolanda, right?"
Yolanda Greenwood nodded, "Hello, Professor."
Serena Seward nodded in appreciation, "I was once worried that Little Sterling might not recover, but it seems he’s doing well now. I guess you must have played a part in that."
She tentatively asked, "Would you mind walking me to my car?"
"Certainly, it’d be an honor." Yolanda Greenwood quickly realized the professor wanted to talk, so she handed Little Ella to Adam Sterling and accompanied the professor toward the car.
"Yolanda, you know some of Little Sterling’s family situation, don’t you?" After crossing the road, Serena Seward finally spoke.
Yolanda Greenwood nodded, "He has mentioned some things."
Serena Seward sighed, "The kid is really unfortunate to have a father like that..."
Yolanda Greenwood paused and immediately added, "Professor, Adam’s father... passed away recently."
"Really?" Serena Seward seemed a bit surprised, then nodded knowingly, "That’s for the best. You and Little Sterling should take good care of each other. Little Sterling is truly a genius in psychology; although it’s a pity he can’t serve in the military, he can help many people, and I’m proud of him."
She handed Yolanda Greenwood a business card, "This has my email and phone number. If you can’t reach me by phone, you can send me an email."
Yolanda Greenwood paused for a moment, not quite understanding Serena Seward’s intention. She thought she wouldn’t have much reason to contact Serena Seward in the future, perhaps only to exchange greetings during holidays, but Serena Seward seemed to have different intentions.
"Don’t misunderstand," Serena Seward was evidently skilled in psychology, "I’m just leaving it as a keepsake. If Adam encounters any trouble with a case, you can contact me. But it’s best not to tell him; he’s very proud, especially in this field."
Yolanda Greenwood slowly exhaled and accepted the card, "Thank you, Professor. Adam is fortunate to have a mentor like you."
"He’s fortunate to have met you, too." Serena Seward smiled, "Well, it’s getting late. If I keep talking, I might miss my flight. So let’s... stay in touch."
"Goodbye, Professor." Yolanda Greenwood watched Serena Seward walk away, then looked at the business card thoughtfully and put it away.
On her way back to the counseling room, she saw a familiar figure, the elder she had seen when going to register.
The elder was loitering outside the counseling room, seemingly with something on his mind.
"Hello," Yolanda Greenwood approached him, "Sir, are you here for consultation?"
The elder turned to look at her; it was Adrian Sterling, who had claimed to be Adam’s father that day. He examined Yolanda Greenwood up and down, "Is this psychological counseling room your family’s?"
"Yes, my husband is the owner." Yolanda Greenwood forced a smile, "Elder, is there something you’d like to discuss?"
"Hmph!" Adrian Sterling snorted in disdain, "I don’t believe in this nonsense, shady stuff."
He looked distantly at Adam Sterling holding Little Ella inside, then asked Yolanda Greenwood, "Is that your daughter?"
Yolanda Greenwood instantly felt her hair stand on end, a sense of dread creeping in, "Elder, what exactly do you want?"
"What do I want?" Adrian Sterling sneered, "I’m an old man nearing death. What could I possibly want?"
He laughed and shook his head as he walked away.
Yolanda Greenwood looked back repeatedly and found that Adrian Sterling was still wandering near the counseling room, yet he clearly didn’t believe in the existence of psychological issues. What was he up to?
Inside the clinic, she immediately went to find Adam Sterling, "There’s a weird old man outside; do you want to take a look?"
"Weird old man?" Adam Sterling’s face turned pale for a moment. He put down Little Ella and cautiously approached the window, looking out. But when he saw the elder outside, he quickly ducked back inside.
"What’s wrong?" Yolanda Greenwood thought Adam Sterling’s reaction was similar to the other day. Could it be he was also scared by that old man then?
"Close the blinds, pull them all the way down!" Adam Sterling immediately instructed.
Yolanda Greenwood became increasingly uneasy, "Adam, do you know that old man?"
