Chapter 48: Chapter 48 She Might as Well Have Died by Running into Something
"Yolanda? Were you waiting for Mommy here?"
Eliana Reed piled on an enthusiastic smile and hurried toward Yolanda Greenwood with her arms full of things.
Yolanda reflexively stepped back, alarm bells ringing throughout her body.
"What are you dodging for, child?"
Eliana put down the things and reached out to pull Yolanda toward her.
Yolanda dodged again, "What are you trying to do now?"
"I’m your mother. What could I possibly do?"
Eliana managed to squeeze out a few tears.
"Are you still angry with me? How’s your hand? Let Mom have a look."
Yolanda held her hand behind her back; she had been hurt too many times to trust the person before her any longer.
"I don’t need you to worry about me, if there’s nothing else, you can go back."
Eliana was stunned, it never occurred to her that after so long, this girl would still bear a grudge against her.
She tried to contain her emotions, "Yolanda, I’m your mother. There is no parent in the world who doesn’t make mistakes. Do you plan to be my enemy for life?"
Hearing Eliana say such things, Yolanda was almost amused by her anger.
"Indeed, there is no parent in the world who doesn’t make mistakes."
At these words, Eliana’s heart soared, "That’s right, let’s go. I’ll take you to the hospital to see your hand properly. No matter the cost, we must heal it."
Yolanda was slightly surprised; she didn’t expect Eliana to come for her hand.
Why though?
She certainly didn’t believe Eliana cared for her hand.
"No need, I’ll figure it out myself."
"What can you figure out?" Eliana’s tone became somewhat anxious, "Cooper Coldson is divorcing you, you have no money in hand, and now you are out of a job, what can you do?"
She reached out to pull Yolanda again, "Hurry and come with me to the hospital, let’s get your hand healed quickly."
Yolanda faintly sensed something, "Are you so eager to get my hand healed?"
"Of course." Eliana’s expression flickered unnaturally for a moment, "We can’t delay with your hand. Come with me."
"Why?" Yolanda couldn’t understand, "Who sent you? Melissa Greenwood?"
"What are you thinking about now?" Eliana gradually lost her patience, "Hurry up, getting your hand healed is good for everyone."
Yolanda let out a bitter laugh.
She was almost certain it was Melissa Greenwood.
Her expression turned completely cold, and she shrugged off Eliana.
"Eliana Reed, you’re right about one thing, there is no parent in the world who doesn’t make mistakes, but... some people... simply aren’t fit to be parents."
Eliana looked at Yolanda in disbelief, "What are you talking about?"
"Ask yourself, from the day I was born to now, have you ever fulfilled the responsibilities of a mother for even one day?"
Following the revelations about Eliana Reed and Melissa Greenwood, Yolanda would recall the past whenever she was idle.
At six, Eliana bought Yolanda candy in exchange for her giving her favorite toy to Melissa;
At ten, Eliana gave Yolanda her first drawing board, demanding that she give up the first prize in a drawing competition;
At sixteen, Eliana gave Yolanda a dress, which she later found out was one that Melissa didn’t want;
...
At twenty-four, Eliana forced Cooper Coldson to marry Yolanda, which was also related to Melissa.
From childhood to adulthood, every time Eliana showed kindness, it was actually for the sake of Melissa Greenwood.
"You’re talking nonsense!" Eliana was extremely aggrieved, "If I never fulfilled my duties as a mother, how did you grow up?"
Pointing at Yolanda’s nose, she scolded, "You ungrateful girl, I’m telling you, don’t take this for granted. Hurry to the hospital with me, or you’ll really become disabled and regret it for the rest of your life."
"Why should I regret it?" Yolanda sneered, "If I really become disabled in the future, I will only hate you and Melissa Greenwood for life. Even in death, I won’t let you two off as a ghost."
"You!" Eliana Reed was about to go mad.
"Better leave now, from now on, I have nothing to do with you or the Greenwood Family, not a single penny’s worth."
Yolanda Greenwood turned and walked away toward the complex, ignoring Eliana Reed’s madness behind her as if she hadn’t heard.
Eliana Reed made a fuss for a while, got bored with herself, and drove back.
On the road, she called Melissa Greenwood to report the outcome.
"Melissa, that girl is just cheap, let’s not bother with her anymore."
"Did you not hear what Cooper Coldson said?" Melissa Greenwood suddenly yelled on the other end of the phone.
Eliana Reed jumped in surprise.
"You’re really useless, a waste! Don’t call me again!" Melissa Greenwood hung up instantly.
Eliana Reed held the phone, completely dumbfounded.
Did Melissa just call her... a waste? And said not to call anymore?
Her hands trembling, she immediately redialed, but the call was ended.
Again and again, but it was always disconnected.
Then, she was blocked.
By the time Eliana Reed came back to her senses, she realized her face was covered in tears.
"Impossible, Melissa wouldn’t ignore me, impossible, she’s just angry, it’s nothing, nothing."
"It’s all Yolanda’s fault, that dead lowlife, if not for her, why would Melissa be angry?"
She comforted herself softly, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
Melissa Greenwood was indeed furious. Before, when Yolanda obeyed Eliana Reed, she hadn’t realized how useless Eliana was.
She was so grateful that Eliana had switched her with Yolanda, otherwise having such a mother, she might as well have hit her head and died.
She paced anxiously in the corridor, Yolanda’s hand needed to be treated quickly.
"Melissa?" Gemma Morgan’s voice came from behind, "What’s happened?"
Melissa Greenwood’s thoughts raced, and her eyes immediately reddened.
She walked over to help Gemma Morgan back to the room, "Mom, I’m so worried about Yolanda."
"What happened to Yolanda?" Gemma Morgan looked much more anxious than before.
Melissa Greenwood bit her lip silently, Gemma was a fool, why did she care more about someone else’s daughter?
She wiped away her tears, "Yolanda previously attempted suicide, it hurt her wrist, she can’t draw anymore."
"That serious?" Gemma Morgan’s eyes reddened instantly, "The child loves to draw so much, how heartbroken she must be?"
"Mom, actually, if Yolanda sees a doctor quickly, she can still be treated."
Melissa Greenwood looked increasingly aggrieved, "But she’s really resistant to the help from me and Cooper, she refuses to accept treatment."
"Ah!" Gemma Morgan sighed, "You can’t blame Yolanda, you two really did break her heart."
Melissa Greenwood grew even angrier. She hadn’t expected Gemma not to criticize Yolanda for being unreasonable, but to blame her and Cooper instead, completely blind.
At this point, all she could do was to keep it in.
"Mom, no matter what, we want to help Yolanda."
Melissa Greenwood seized the opportunity to speak up, "Mom, could you call Yolanda, just say you’ll take care of it, that you’ll help her with her hand, she definitely won’t refuse."
Gemma Morgan nodded, "Don’t worry, now that I know, I won’t just sit by, that child has suffered enough already, if she can’t draw anymore..."
She truly felt sorry for her.
Returning to the room, Gemma Morgan wanted to call Yolanda.
"Mom, let’s call her tomorrow." Melissa Greenwood feared calling now might raise Yolanda’s suspicions, "It’s a bit late today."
Gemma Morgan was still somewhat anxious, "Then I’ll send her a message."
[Yolanda, do you have time tomorrow? Could you come to the hospital to see your Eldest Aunt?]
