Chapter 45: Chapter 45 I Want You All to Feel the Retribution

Melissa Greenwood’s thumb pressed right on Yolanda Greenwood’s wound; pain made her sweat profusely, yet she forgot to struggle.

"What did you say?" Yolanda’s face was pale as she asked.

"Still pretending?" Melissa sneered coldly. "Yolanda, you’re truly shameless, claiming you want to divorce Cooper but then you keep tangling with him over and over again."

She shoved Yolanda to the ground, "He doesn’t love you. What does it matter to him even if you died? Why do you still bother him?"

Melissa firmly believed that Cooper was willing to help Yolanda only because Yolanda was shamelessly persistent.

Yolanda was like a soulless entity.

She slowly got up and let out a light laugh.

"You’re mistaken, it’s not me bothering him..."

She looked at Melissa coldly and then slapped her across the face.

"He is atoning for you; if you want to be angry, be angry with yourself for being too malicious."

Melissa covered her face in disbelief.

Suddenly, enthusiastic applause rang out around them, as all the media turned their cameras on Yolanda.

Sophie Taylor ran down from the stage and grabbed Yolanda’s arm, "Yolanda, let’s go, up on stage, talk about your two works."

Yolanda was pulled away, and as she passed by Melissa, she paused.

"Don’t worry, I won’t go looking for Professor Watson anymore, I won’t accept your apology!"

Yolanda took the stage surrounded by the crowd, and she saw Jenny Reyes sitting not far away, nodding at her.

She smiled faintly and accepted the microphone that President Ken personally handed to her.

Yolanda was clear that the gears of destiny were about to turn; seizing this opportunity, she would be able to make a big splash in the industry.

But she also knew it was a huge gamble.

If her hand didn’t recover, then this opportunity would only become a regret.

"Yolanda, speak," Sophie gently nudged Yolanda.

"Hello everyone, I’m very glad you all like these two works."

Yolanda bowed deeply to the audience.

"In fact, these two works were created by Sophie Taylor, Roman Rogers, and myself. It’s just that my abilities are limited, and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to stand here rightfully..."

"Yolanda..." Sophie sounded anxious.

Yolanda looked at her and smiled.

"I’m really grateful to Sophie and Roman for giving me this opportunity, but I also understand, they are the true stars today."

She turned and bowed to Sophie and Roman, truly appreciative of them.

They let her see that her works were indeed well-received.

"Alright, I shall not hog the limelight any longer. Regarding those two works, and any other questions about other works, let them answer."

Previously, Yolanda had exchanged creative ideas with them, so today they indeed had the chance to claim those two works.

But they didn’t, instead, they shared the valuable opportunity to showcase with Yolanda.

So, Yolanda wanted to repay them.

At this point, Sophie and Roman understood Yolanda’s intent; they again became the focus, accepting interviews and awards.

Yolanda left the venue, ready to leave.

"Yolanda!" A familiar voice called from behind.

Yolanda’s eyes instantly reddened; it took her great effort to compose herself before turning around.

"Sister Reyes, why did you come out?"

Jenny Reyes trotted over, somewhat puzzled as to why Yolanda would give up this chance.

"Yolanda, Professor Watson said there is great hope for your hand, why did you just now..."

"Sister Reyes," Yolanda interrupted Jenny’s words, "I have decided to give up painting, I... won’t go looking for Professor Watson anymore."

"Why?" Jenny’s eyes widened.

Yolanda offered an apologetic smile, then stepped forward and embraced Jenny.

"Sister Reyes, I’m sorry, I let you down."

"Silly girl, don’t talk like that."

Jenny Reyes didn’t know what had happened, but she believed in Yolanda Greenwood. If it weren’t for compelling reasons, Yolanda wouldn’t give up.

She comforted softly, "Yolanda, it’s okay. If you ever need Sister Reyes, don’t hesitate."

"Thank you, Sister Reyes, thank you."

Yolanda hugged Jenny tightly once more, then turned and hurried away.

She feared if she didn’t leave then, her emotions would spiral out of control.

As soon as she left the hotel, Yolanda sent a message to Professor Watson, saying she wouldn’t be coming anymore.

Today was Lola Gold’s live streaming day, and Yolanda didn’t go back; instead, she found herself by the riverbank.

Autumn was deepening, and the night winds were growing colder.

Not far from the riverbank, a luxury cruise ship was docked, its dazzling lights painting the city’s most intoxicating image.

Tonight, a charity banquet was being held on the cruise ship, with the family heads of the major families of Gray City all in attendance.

Cooper Coldson had just hung up the phone with Professor Watson when he heard Richard Reyes say next to him, "President, isn’t that the lady over there?"

Cooper’s face darkened.

Yolanda, blowing in the chilly wind, was pondering her future moves when suddenly someone pulled her from behind.

"What do you want to do?"

Cooper’s voice erupted with uncontrollable anger.

Yolanda paused for a moment, making sure the man before her was indeed Cooper, and her heart ached sharply.

"Yolanda, you wouldn’t specifically choose this place and time to pretend to jump into the river, would you?"

Cooper stared at her intently.

Professor Watson had just called to say Yolanda had given up on treatment, and in the blink of an eye, Cooper saw Yolanda alone by the riverbank at night.

His first thought was that this woman had lost her will to live.

Without any hesitation, he abandoned boarding the ship and ran over to her.

But after pulling her back, he started to doubt whether Yolanda was doing this on purpose. Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence?

Yolanda had never felt so tired; she really didn’t want to explain anymore.

She turned to leave.

Cooper stepped in front of her, "Where are you going now?"

"To a different place!" Yolanda bit back, deliberately saying, "I couldn’t die anyway, so why would I stay here?"

Cooper couldn’t tell if her words were true or false, his head buzzing.

"Yolanda, who would love someone like you who doesn’t respect herself?"

Yolanda burst into angry laughter, the tears streaming down her face.

"I don’t respect myself?"

The scars on her body and in her heart were made by Eliana Reed, Melissa Greenwood, and Cooper.

Now, Cooper was saying she didn’t respect herself.

"Yes, I have no self-respect. I shouldn’t have been so unguarded with my own birth mother, I shouldn’t have trusted a cousin so much, and I should never have... fallen in love with a blind and heartless man."

Cooper stood there in silence.

It wasn’t until Yolanda was about to walk away again that he spoke.

"Go see Professor Watson on time tomorrow, get your hand treated... we’ll be even."

Yolanda, with her back to Cooper, realized he was still so eager to rid himself of her.

Even?

Cooper, you wish!

I want you to owe me for a lifetime!

I want you to live anxiously, worrying day and night about retribution not being satisfied!

Yolanda wiped the tears off her face and turned around with a defiant look.

"Cooper, next Monday at nine, I’ll be waiting for you at the Civil Affairs Office."

"If you don’t show up, I’ll go to court and file for divorce."
