Chapter 44: Chapter 44 You Really Know How to Delude Yourself

"Miss Greenwood," a nurse gently began, "if you can’t bear it, tell me."

"No... I’m fine," Yolanda Greenwood struggled to answer.

Her face was deathly pale, her gaze fixed unwaveringly on the person outside.

It was Cooper Coldson.

She didn’t know why he was there, maybe he really was just a hallucination.

Yolanda clenched her teeth as she stared at the unchanging indifference of the man outside the window; somehow, she truly felt the pain subsiding.

Cooper Coldson had always been her cure, both a remedy and a poison.

Remembering the many years she had loved him, there had been countless times more painful than now.

Yolanda didn’t know when she had passed out, but the last thought before doing so was to divorce Cooper Coldson as soon as possible.

When she woke up again, she was in the hospital room.

"Miss Greenwood, you’re finally awake."

The young nurse was terrified.

"I told you not to act tough; you nearly got me eaten alive by your boyfriend."

"Boyfriend?" Yolanda looked puzzled.

"Yeah, the guy who’s been standing outside the window, isn’t he your boyfriend?"

The nurse muttered, "After you fainted, he brought Professor Watson here, the way he looked at me, as if he wanted to eat someone."

The person outside the window?

Yolanda was startled.

So that wasn’t her hallucination? Had Cooper Coldson really come?

But why did he know Professor Watson?

Yolanda quickly got out of bed.

She went straight to Professor Watson’s office, "Sir, do you know Cooper Coldson?"

"..." Professor Watson nodded, "Why? You know him too?"

That one statement completely dispelled the thought that had just crossed Yolanda’s mind.

She had almost thought that Professor Watson had suddenly changed his mind and agreed to help her because of Cooper Coldson.

"Yeah," she forced a smile, "I heard from the nurse that I had fainted, and it was Cooper Coldson who called for you."

"No, she was mistaken, I was notified by another nurse."

Professor Watson corrected Yolanda.

"Oh, I see." Yolanda felt awkward and, after thanking Professor Watson repeatedly, she left.

Only after she left did Cooper Coldson appear.

Professor Watson was truly perplexed, "Why so reluctant to let her know?"

"It’s nothing," Cooper’s tone was indifferent, "a person with whom I will not have any further involvement, I don’t want any more entanglements."

Professor Watson grew even more puzzled – could a person of no consequence be worth ten billion to Cooper Coldson?

Having endured the first rehabilitation session, the ones that followed went much smoother.

Yolanda indeed did not see Cooper Coldson again. It seemed that his appearance that day was just a coincidence.

Finally, the day of the Baruy showcase arrived.

The event was held at the top floor venue of the Empire Grand Hotel, inviting many big names from the fashion circles, both domestic and international, including major media outlets.

Yolanda, as one of Baruy’s employees, went to the venue with Sophie Taylor and others.

Before the event started, everyone worked together to confirm various details.

Finally, the showcase began.

Sophie Taylor and the other designers stayed backstage.

Yolanda went to the show alone; she stood on the outermost part of the venue, quietly appreciating the industry event that had nothing to do with her.

Baruy, a leading name in the industry, offered a variety of styles in their pieces, making the show a true visual feast.

Soon, it was time for the designs of Sophie Taylor and Roman Rogers.

Yolanda silently cheered for them.

"You certainly embody the spirit of ’where there’s a will, there’s a way.’"

Melissa Greenwood stood behind Yolanda, seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

For the first time, it seemed, Melissa didn’t play the part of the proper cousin in front of her.

Yolanda couldn’t be bothered with her.

But Melissa was relentless, "To be at one of the top events in the industry and not see your own work, Yolanda, aren’t you regretful?"

"Melissa, what’s the point of this?" Yolanda was exasperated.

Melissa’s smug expression was nauseating.

"It’s interesting, oh so interesting," Melissa laughed, "Yolanda, you don’t understand. I just love seeing your regretful face."

However, as soon as she finished speaking, both of them were stunned by the pieces that appeared on stage.

Sophie Taylor and Roman Rogers’ last design had been replaced.

Replaced with Yolanda’s.

How could this be?

Admiration grew louder around them; clearly, many people were amazed by these two pieces.

Melissa quickly recovered, chuckling coldly.

"Interesting, very interesting, Yolanda," she jeered, "How does it feel to see your good colleagues, your friends, steal your work?"

"Impossible!" Yolanda declared decisively, "They wouldn’t steal my design."

"Hahaha..." Melissa burst into laughter, "Yolanda, you really are delusional, the evidence is right in front of you, and still, you say it’s impossible?"

"Hahaha..." She laughed so hard she was bent over, "You’re ridiculous."

Yolanda couldn’t believe it; Sophie Taylor and Roman Rogers couldn’t have done such a thing.

She wanted to find them and clear things up but was blocked by Melissa.

"Stay put, Yolanda," Melissa said, gripping her wrist tightly, "What’s done is done. Confronting them now won’t help."

Melissa knew those two designs would undoubtedly become the biggest winners of the day, and as their team lead, she would benefit as well.

Moreover, seeing Yolanda in trouble made her even happier.

She’d just learned something that morning: Cooper Coldson had arranged for a foreign expert to treat Yolanda’s hand.

Detestable, utterly detestable.

If it weren’t for vexing Cooper Coldson a few days earlier, she might have been tempted to break Yolanda’s hand herself right then and there.

Yolanda had no choice but to temporarily hold back and wait for the showcase to end to seek clarity.

Anyway, she refused to believe Sophie Taylor and Roman Rogers would stoop to theft.

The showcase continued, and sure enough, those two designs received the highest recognition and unanimous praise.

Baruy’s President Ken personally took the stage to present awards to Sophie Taylor and Roman Rogers.

"I heard your team leader is Director Melissa Greenwood?" Ken inquired.

Sophie nodded, "Yes, but she only led us for a month; before that, it was Manager Jenny Reyes who was in charge of our team."

"Oh, it was Manager Jenny Reyes." Ken clearly had great appreciation for Jenny, "Her departure is Baruy’s loss."

He turned to Sophie, "Miss Taylor, could you explain your design process?"

"It’s truly beautiful; how did you achieve it?" Ken was full of curiosity.

From afar, Sophie looked in Yolanda’s direction.

She gradually began to speak, "Mr. President, I apologize, but I can’t explain, because... this is not my work."

In an instant, the room erupted in shock.

A plagiarism incident at Baruy’s annual show could destroy Baruy’s reputation in the industry.

The venue was in chaos, with cameras clicking incessantly.

Ken felt darkness encroach before his eyes, nearly fainting.

Yolanda, shocked, her eyes wide, started forward to stop Sophie.

"Yolanda!" Melissa grabbed her by the wrist and hissed, "Don’t even think that just because Cooper Coldson healed your hand, you’re suddenly going to become some big industry master."
