Chapter 444: Chapter 444: Have You Always Slept in Separate Rooms?
Lola Gold stomped on Caleb Sullivan’s foot under the table, signaling him to talk less.
"Over a million?" Yolanda Greenwood was slightly surprised. She didn’t know much about renovation, though the house did come fully furnished. She didn’t recognize any of the brands and had no idea how much it cost. "Is it really that expensive?"
Caleb Sullivan was about to speak when he felt a hard stomp on his foot. "Ouch!"
"What happened?" Yolanda asked, puzzled.
"Oh, it’s nothing, just suddenly felt a twinge in my back," Caleb Sullivan said as he felt his phone vibrate. He took it out to find a message from Lola Gold saying, "Shut up!"
"Caleb, is the furniture in that house really that expensive?" If the renovation really did cost over a million, Yolanda felt even more uneasy.
"Huh? Actually, I don’t really know. I was just guessing," Caleb Sullivan scratched his head awkwardly. "But it does look quite impressive."
"Alright, stop overthinking it," Adam Sterling said calmly from the side. "Even if the furniture is worth over a million, if no one lives in the house, it’ll just gather dust. Since they’re willing to rent it to us, they must have their reasons."
"Exactly, and we’re supposed to pick up Uncle Greenwood tomorrow. Why think about all this? As long as Uncle lives comfortably, that’s enough," Lola Gold quickly chimed in. She and Adam Sterling exchanged a knowing glance, clearly aware of the situation.
"Alright," Yolanda thought, determined to take good care of the house.
After dinner, Yolanda and Adam Sterling went back to pack up their things, while Lola Gold and Caleb Sullivan left together.
"Why didn’t you let me speak earlier?" Caleb Sullivan complained indignantly on the way. "I tell you, just the kitchen setup in that house is worth at least three hundred thousand."
Lola Gold sneered, "It’s Cooper Coldson’s house. A million-dollar renovation—what’s there to be surprised about?"
"What? That house... belongs to Cooper Coldson?" Caleb Sullivan’s expression changed, and he remembered the day Cooper Coldson claimed that he was Ella’s biological father.
He couldn’t help but feel curious, "Lola, what’s the deal between Cooper Coldson and Yolanda? Is Ella really Cooper Coldson’s daughter?"
Lola Gold frowned at him, "How do you know?"
She hadn’t talked much to Caleb Sullivan about Cooper Coldson and Yolanda before. It wasn’t that she was deliberately hiding it, but it was Yolanda’s private matter. Moreover, at that time, Yolanda didn’t know she was once married to Cooper Coldson.
"Huh?" Caleb Sullivan panicked for a moment, then immediately lied, "Oh, I overheard Adam Sterling mention it when we were moving today."
Lola Gold was a bit exasperated, "Yes, Ella is Cooper Coldson’s daughter. Yolanda... divorced Cooper Coldson long ago."
"So what’s Cooper Coldson’s deal now? Does he want to remarry?" Caleb Sullivan felt a subtle excitement, but then he thought it seemed strange. "But Yolanda and Adam Sterling seem to be getting along well. Does Cooper Coldson still have a chance?"
Lola Gold looked at him displeased, "Whether Cooper Coldson has a chance or not, what’s it to you? I tell you, this matter has nothing to do with you or me, so don’t get involved."
"Oh, the way you say it, how could I get involved," Caleb Sullivan stopped asking, but he still felt there was more to the story.
Yolanda and Adam Sterling spent the entire afternoon packing until they were almost done.
In the evening, after picking up Little Ella, she was overjoyed. "Wow, this house is so beautiful, I really like it."
She ran around, looking everywhere, satisfied with every corner. "Mommy, are we going to live here from now on?"
"Sort of," Yolanda smiled, though feeling a bit uneasy. She instinctively thought of Cooper Coldson, but quickly shook her head to dismiss the idea.
There was no way Cooper Coldson could know about her renting the house, and Daisy Dawson wouldn’t tell Cooper Coldson, so the house shouldn’t be Cooper Coldson’s.
She held Little Ella in her arms and said softly, "Ella, tomorrow Daddy and Mommy plan to bring Grandpa over to stay for a few days, okay?"
"Is Grandpa coming?" The little one shrunk her neck, appearing a bit scared.
"Yes." When Jaxon Greenwood fell ill before, it scared Little Ella, so she was understandably a bit afraid of him.
Yolanda gently kissed Little Ella’s forehead, "Ella, didn’t Mommy tell you that Grandpa is sick, right?"
Little Ella nodded.
"Grandpa sometimes gets confused and doesn’t recognize Ella, but when he’s clear-headed, he loves Ella very much, right?"
Little Ella nodded again.
"Grandpa is also coming this time to celebrate Ella and her brother’s birthday together, so, isn’t Ella happy?"
"Happy!" The little one beamed, adding a few smiles. "Daddy said Grandpa is Mommy’s daddy, and Mommy also wants to spend more time with Daddy, so I welcome Grandpa."
Clearly, Adam Sterling had prepared Little Ella for Jaxon Greenwood’s visit.
Yolanda gratefully glanced at Adam Sterling.
The next day, they set off early and finally picked up Jaxon Greenwood to Gray City in the afternoon.
"Actually, I could have stayed back; don’t want to be a bother," Jaxon Greenwood seemed a bit embarrassed.
"Dad, there’s no bother. If you don’t come, we’d miss you," Yolanda pushed the wheelchair into the elevator, "Especially Ella, she was so happy when she heard you were coming."
Jaxon Greenwood’s eyes lit up, "Is my Ella in kindergarten now?"
"Yeah." Yolanda nodded, "Been there for over a month."
"No problems, right?" Jaxon Greenwood was naturally fond of his granddaughter.
"None at all, Dad. Don’t worry, everything is fine," Yolanda said with a smile.
"That’s good, that’s good," Jaxon Greenwood nodded repeatedly. After entering the room, he was mildly surprised. "Did you rent this?"
He was once the Patriarch of the Greenwood Family, so he could tell the price of the house at a glance.
"Yeah," Yolanda pushed him to the living room, "Dad, do you want to watch TV? I’ll help you settle your things. You’ll stay in the main bedroom on the south side."
"I’m in the master bedroom?" Jaxon Greenwood moved the wheelchair forward, "If I stay in the master bedroom, where will you all sleep?"
Yolanda glanced at Adam Sterling, then answered Jaxon Greenwood, "Dad, you stay in the master bedroom. Ella and I will stay in the second bedroom, and Adam will stay in the guest room on the north side."
The old man furrowed his brows, apparently not expecting the couple to still be sleeping separately after all this time.
He didn’t say anything but lightly sighed.
"Dad, I’ll push you to watch TV. Let Yolanda help tidy up the room, see if anything’s missing," Adam Sterling volunteered.
"I won’t stay in the master bedroom," Jaxon Greenwood spoke slowly, "Yolanda, you and Ella take the master bedroom. I’ll stay in the second bedroom."
"Alright, let’s listen to Dad," Adam Sterling gave Yolanda a look.
"Okay," Yolanda moved things to the second bedroom. After tidying up, she didn’t leave immediately, choosing to sit alone in the room for a while.
In the living room, Jaxon Greenwood asked Adam Sterling in a low voice, "What’s going on? Have you two been sleeping in separate rooms for three years now?"
