Entangled with My Cousin's Fiancé -
Chapter 43 Do you really intend to keep her in the dark?
Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Do you really intend to keep her in the dark?
Ryan Sterling sighed softly.
"If you’re referring to everyday life, as long as you don’t do any heavy lifting, there shouldn’t be any problems."
Hearing this, Yolanda Greenwood’s heart had already sunk halfway.
Sure enough, Ryan continued, "I heard from Jenny that you’re an exceptionally talented painter, but painting demands a lot from the hands, so... don’t get your hopes too high."
Yolanda smiled bitterly, "Actually, I didn’t have any hopes at all."
"Dr. Sterling," she said, rising to leave, "thank you for today, then I’ll just..."
"Wait a moment," Ryan interrupted her, "It’s not that there’s no hope for your hand at all, it’s just that my abilities are limited. However, my mentor might be able to work a miracle for you."
"Really?" Yolanda could hardly believe it.
"My mentor is currently abroad," Ryan took out his phone, "I’ll call him right now to ask for you."
Yolanda was immensely grateful, "Thank you so much, Dr. Sterling. I truly appreciate it."
She gestured outside and mouthed, "I’ll wait outside."
Shortly after, Ryan came out of the room, his face apologetic, "My mentor is involved in a very important research project right now and really can’t make the time."
"Alright." Yolanda’s smile was forced.
That was her fate.
From childhood, Lady Luck had never looked her way.
"It’s alright, Dr. Sterling, thank you all the same."
Yolanda returned home dispirited.
For the next few days, she holed up at Lola Gold’s place, spending her days eating and sleeping.
Lola was worried about her, but also noticed that Yolanda seemed to have finally put on a bit of weight; she used to be so skinny it was worrying.
That day, Jenny Reyes called again, saying that Ryan’s mentor had returned to the country.
"He’s back?" Yolanda sat up abruptly.
"Yes, and he’s at Fifth Institute right now. I’m here too, you should come over immediately."
"Alright, I’m on my way."
Unexpectedly, there was a twist in her situation, and Yolanda was overjoyed. She quickly changed her clothes and rushed to Fifth Institute.
Ryan’s mentor, Professor Watson, was a celebrated international neurology professor.
After reviewing Yolanda’s X-rays and hearing the details from Ryan, he developed a rehabilitation plan for her.
"Three months, if there’s improvement within three months, your hand could recover."
Clearly, the implication was there might be no progress at all.
Yolanda was already very happy; her life had always been about blossoming through the cracks.
She thanked him repeatedly, "Thank you, Professor, regardless of the outcome, I will give it my all."
Professor Watson nodded approvingly, "You don’t have to thank me because actually..."
"Hm?" Yolanda looked puzzled.
Professor Watson smiled, "If Ryan hadn’t kept calling me, I wouldn’t have changed my mind. You should thank him."
"Professor, isn’t that a bit of an exaggeration?" Ryan shook his head helplessly.
Yolanda realized she had to thank all three of them properly.
She suggested treating them to a meal.
"You go ahead," Professor Watson declined, "I’ve got other things to do, I won’t join in with you young people."
Before leaving, he reminded Yolanda that rehabilitation wouldn’t be easy and to be mentally prepared.
"I’ll be in the country for a while, so come see me regularly for check-ups."
After repeated thanks, Yolanda and the others left.
Professor Watson returned to his office and dialed a number.
"Little Cooper, I’ve looked at the girl’s hand, and there’s still hope."
On the other end of the line, Cooper Coldson stood before a huge floor-to-ceiling window.
"Thank you, Professor Watson. Don’t worry about the experimental base; the proposal is already done. I’ll personally come to the hospital to see you in a few days."
"Don’t mention it. Little Cooper, it’s always been my wish to return to my country for research; this time, it’s truly thanks to you."
"You’re too kind, Professor. The nation needs talents like you as well."
"But Little Cooper, are you really sure you don’t want to tell that girl? For this, you’ve spent a billion."
"It’s not all for her. Like I said, the country needs you back."
"Alright then," the professor added, "Tomorrow, she starts her rehabilitation plan."
"Fine." Cooper didn’t say much else.
Yolanda invited Jenny and Ryan to have Western cuisine. After the meal, Ryan returned to the hospital.
Yolanda walked with Jenny along the street.
"Sister Reyes, are you and Dr. Sterling classmates?"
Yolanda felt that they seemed to be about the same age, and during the meal, there was a feeling of being both familiar and unfamiliar, like old classmates who hadn’t met in a long time.
"No," Jenny smiled, "We’ve known each other for less than a month."
"Ah?" Yolanda was slightly surprised.
Jenny added helplessly, "We met on a blind date."
Yolanda was even more shocked.
She found it difficult to associate someone as outstanding as Sister Reyes with blind dating.
Then again, upon second thought, Ryan didn’t seem like someone who would need to go on blind dates either.
Jenny nodded earnestly, "Really, I thought we wouldn’t contact each other again after one meeting, but unexpectedly..."
For Yolanda’s sake, she had taken the initiative to contact Ryan.
Fortunately, Ryan was a gentleman; he didn’t turn her away and even enthusiastically helped.
She would need to find an opportunity to thank him properly.
"Sister Reyes..." Yolanda honestly didn’t know how to express her gratitude to Jenny, who had helped her time and again.
"Enough," Jenny patted Yolanda’s forehead, "Sister Reyes is willing to help because you’re worth it."
Yolanda paused.
"Yolanda," Jenny spoke again, "Baruy’s big show is in a few days, are you going?"
She knew that Melissa had taken away Yolanda’s chance to participate.
"Of course, why wouldn’t I go?" Yolanda’s tone was firm, "As a Baruy employee, I have the right to learn."
Jenny wasn’t surprised and smiled, "I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed."
She was very serious, "I’m sure the regret of Baruy’s executives not having seen your works is their greatest loss."
She truly hoped Yolanda could recover the use of her hand; it was a treasure for the entire industry.
The next day, Yolanda arrived at the hospital on time for her rehabilitation training.
After greeting Professor Watson, she went to the specialized rehabilitation room with a nurse.
The moment Yolanda left, Cooper entered the office from behind.
"Do you want to go see?" the professor asked, sounding him out.
"Let’s not," Cooper sat down nonchalantly, "It’s just rehabilitation, nothing worth seeing."
The professor nodded slightly, "Right, there’s really nothing, but the first time is always the hardest, I wonder if that girl can stick it out."
Cooper didn’t respond, silently taking out the proposal.
In the corridor of the rehabilitation room, sounds of screaming and crying could be heard.
Obviously, this was no simple matter.
And Yolanda’s goal was to be able to pick up a paintbrush again, so her rehabilitation plan was even more stringent.
Right at the start, her eyes reddened, the pain so intense it was dizzying, causing tears to fall involuntarily.
She truly thought she was hallucinating from the pain.
Because when she looked up, she saw someone standing outside.
