Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Don’t Bother Yolanda Greenwood Anymore

"What’s wrong?"

Lola Gold instinctively stepped back.

Yolanda Greenwood was quick, grabbing Lola’s arm and pulling her closer.

She lowered her head close to her neck, "Lola, is that a hickey on your neck?"

"What hickey?"

Lola shook off Yolanda’s hand and nonchalantly went to busy herself with something else.

Yolanda, undeterred, followed, "Lola, where did you really go last night? Isn’t that a hickey on your neck?"

"A hickey? How could that be?"

Lola approached the mirror and rubbed the mark on her neck.

"It’s not a hickey, it’s just itchy, maybe some bug bit me."

"Really?" Yolanda was half-doubtful, "Lola, haven’t you fallen in love?"

"I really haven’t," Lola confirmed vehemently, "Yesterday, my mom needed me, so she called me back home."

"Really?"

Yolanda still found it hard to believe.

She grabbed Lola’s hand, "Lola, I don’t mean anything by it, even if you are dating you don’t have to tell me, but you need to take care of yourself, you know?"

Normally, Lola was unstoppable in battles, but when it came to matters of the heart, this girl was just useless.

"I know, I’m not a child."

Lola smiled lightly, "Alright, you better get to work. Take care, and don’t hurt your hand."

When Yolanda arrived at the company, Sophie Taylor and others came forward to show concern.

She just smiled and said her wrist was slightly injured, telling everyone not to worry.

Soon, Melissa Greenwood’s secretary arrived, calling everyone to the Director’s office for a meeting.

"Yolanda, the higher-ups are taking your wrist-slitting incident seriously, they’ve decided to cancel your chance to participate in the big show."

With those words, Melissa dropped a bombshell.

Sophie and others looked at Yolanda’s injured wrist in shock.

"First of all, I didn’t slit my wrist, I was almost killed."

Yolanda corrected firmly, "Secondly, what right does the company have to bar me from the show?"

"How can you be so selfish?" Melissa’s attitude was haughty, "Your hand’s ruined, even if you shine in this show, what then? Can you still paint? Can you still take orders?"

"..." Yolanda defiantly responded, "I will find a way to heal my injury."

"Then we’ll talk when you’re healed."

Melissa turned her gaze to another painter, "Roman Rogers, you take over."

"Director Greenwood, that doesn’t seem right."

Unexpectedly, Roman declined.

"Yolanda’s entries have been submitted, and her injury shouldn’t affect the show."

Melissa clenched her teeth in anger, "Don’t you understand why the company is hosting the show? Do you actually think it’s to showcase yourselves? It’s for business opportunities, so why should we let a wreck participate?"

She warned everyone, "If you don’t want to participate, I can find another team to replace you."

Roman still wanted to advocate for Yolanda but was stopped by her.

"Director Greenwood, I am willing to withdraw," Yolanda signaled Roman with a shake of her head.

"That’s wise," Melissa then addressed Yolanda, "One month. If you still can’t hold a paintbrush by then, please resign voluntarily."

"Fine," Yolanda reluctantly agreed.

After everyone left, Melissa hummed a happy tune.

This time, Yolanda might’ve saved her life, but she lost both her career and love.

She was the only winner.

Her phone rang then; it was Cooper Coldson.

Melissa, bursting with joy, had pretty much prepared everything for the wedding, just waiting for Cooper’s approval.

"Cooper, why are you calling? Miss me?"

"Come to Coldson Building, I’m waiting for you."

Melissa wanted to ask more, but the call had already ended.

She quickly gathered her things and left.

This was the first time Cooper invited her to Coldson Building, a sign that their relationship was progressing.

Upon arriving, she went directly to the president’s office on the top floor.

"Cooper?" she approached with a smile.

"Sit down!" Cooper’s tone was rather cold.

Confused, Melissa sat down on the sofa and chuckled, "What’s the matter?"

Cooper threw a file onto the table.

Hesitantly, Melissa picked it up and opened it, her face turning ashen quickly.

It was Yolanda’s hospital records, clearly showing two admissions in the past five years.

The first time was due to excessive blood loss from a severed artery in her right wrist;

the second, recently, was another severance to the right wrist artery, affecting its motor functions severely.

Melissa didn’t know how Cooper obtained these records, nor did she understand his current intentions.

She trembled all over as she read.

"So, the ones who have been treating me like a fool are you and Eliana Reed?"

Cooper spoke icily, without a trace of emotion in his voice.

"Cooper!" Melissa fell to her knees, "Cooper, hear me out, it’s not what you think, I didn’t mean..."

She wept, "I didn’t intend to lie, I was just too scared of losing you, I didn’t mean to hurt..."

"Melissa!" Cooper cut her off, "I have told you, no matter what, the position of Mrs. Coldson is yours. Spare me the excess."

Melissa sighed inwardly, nodding, "Yes, I understand, it won’t happen again."

"Yolanda has agreed to divorce." Cooper continued, "From now on, don’t trouble her."

"..." Melissa clenched her teeth, "Yes, I understand."

She attempted another explanation, "Cooper, you have to believe me..."

"That’s enough, I’m busy, you should go," Cooper didn’t let her continue.

Melissa had no choice but to leave.

Not being pursued by Cooper this time was already a stroke of luck; she shouldn’t push her luck further.

At the door, she turned back, pitifully starting again.

"Cooper, I’ve prepared everything for the wedding, look..."

"Wait for my news," Cooper didn’t even look up.

After leaving Coldson Building, Melissa was furious.

Why had Cooper suddenly gone after Yolanda’s medical records? It must have been Yolanda’s doing!

"That bitch..." Melissa gritted her teeth, "Should have slit her throat that night, ending this trouble once and for all."

After leaving Baruy, Yolanda received a call from Jenny Reyes.

"Go to Fifth Institute now, Neurosurgery, and see Dr. Ryan Sterling. I’ve arranged it already."

"Thank you, Sister Reyes, for the trouble."

"Hurry up, I’ve briefly explained the situation to Dr. Sterling, and he said there’s hope."

"Great, thank you so much, Sister Reyes."

Hanging up, Yolanda quickly headed to Fifth Institute and soon met Dr. Ryan Sterling.

Dr. Sterling took her through a series of scans and examinations.

By the afternoon, they sat back in Dr. Sterling’s office.

"Dr. Sterling," Yolanda was nervous, "My hand... is there still hope?"
