Chapter 357: Chapter 357: Someone Has Already Paid for You
After another half an hour, they finally arrived at the destination.
Lola Gold took one look and was instantly both amused and exasperated, "So this is the great place you were talking about?"
Though she said that, the expression on her face clearly showed she was delighted.
Yolanda Greenwood got out of the car holding Little Ella, glanced at the restaurant decor, and immediately guessed it wouldn’t be cheap.
"Order whatever you want." Caleb Sullivan whispered to Lola Gold.
"Well, you said it." Lola Gold happily hooked her arm around Yolanda Greenwood’s, "Yolanda, I’m riding on your coattails today. This restaurant’s reviews are always excellent. I’d wanted to come before, but he wasn’t willing to treat me."
Yolanda Greenwood chuckled and went along with her words, "Alright, alright, stop showing off. Clearly, I’m the one benefiting from you."
"Hehe..." Lola Gold lowered her head in happiness and then cuddled Little Ella, "Let’s go, my Princess, what do you want to eat?"
"Anything’s fine. Ella isn’t picky about food." The little one was clearly well-educated, obedient, sensible, and didn’t act spoiled despite being loved.
Entering the restaurant, Yolanda Greenwood and Lola Gold first headed to the private room, while Caleb Sullivan went to the restroom.
"Ladies, would you like to start ordering now?" A waiter entered holding an electronic menu.
"Sure." Lola Gold immediately nodded.
"Wait a moment," Yolanda Greenwood felt it wasn’t appropriate and quickly said to the waiter, "We’ll look at the menu for a bit first. There’s another gentleman in the restroom, we’ll wait for him to come back and order together."
"Understood, ma’am." The waiter left.
"So particular?" Lola Gold sat Little Ella on her lap and looked at the menu with the little one. "Ella, which one do you want?"
Little Ella leaned over the table, her big eyes earnestly scanning the menu. Finally, when they flipped to the desserts section, she turned her head and asked in a sweet voice, "Mom, can I have this?"
Yolanda Greenwood glanced over—it was a piece of tiramisu, priced at seventy-eight. Still reasonable.
"You don’t need to ask your mom, today your godmother will decide—we’re having this," Lola Gold then asked, "Want anything else?"
The little one shook her head vigorously like a rattle drum, "No, Ella’s still little and can’t eat too much."
Lola Gold smiled at Yolanda Greenwood, "You really raised Ella into such a well-mannered little lady—too sensible!"
Yolanda Greenwood tugged at the corner of her mouth, "Caleb’s been gone for a while now. Should you check on him?"
"Hungry?" Lola Gold seemed annoyed, "Forget him. We’ll order for ourselves."
"That won’t do." Yolanda Greenwood wasn’t too hungry herself but was worried Little Ella might be. "Please check if he’s uncomfortable?"
"Fine, you wait here, I’ll be quick." Lola Gold immediately left.
As soon as she stepped out of the private room and before reaching the main hall, she faintly heard the sound of arguing. It sounded like Caleb Sullivan’s voice.
Her heart dropped, and she quickly ran over. Sure enough, Caleb Sullivan was loudly arguing with a waiter.
"What’s wrong?" Lola Gold walked up and tugged at Caleb Sullivan, "What happened? Why are you fighting?"
"They’re scamming the customers here! I clearly bought this restaurant’s coupon in a live-streaming channel, but now they tell me I can’t use it. Isn’t that deceitful?" Caleb Sullivan was so mad his face was red, "Call your manager. Otherwise, I’m not done with this."
"Miss," the waiter turned to Lola Gold, "The coupon your husband purchased clearly states it doesn’t apply to this branch. We truly can’t accept it."
Upon hearing this, Lola Gold quickly tugged at Caleb Sullivan again, "Alright, stop arguing. Didn’t you read carefully when you bought it? Forget it, just ask for a refund. I’ll cover today’s meal."
She didn’t want to continue arguing, knowing Yolanda Greenwood and Little Ella were still hungry.
"Lola, it’s not that I don’t want to pay—it’s that they’re bullying us. No way, I need to see their manager today." Caleb Sullivan was still adamant.
Anger flashed across Lola Gold’s face, "Caleb, are you really going to make trouble for me today? My best friend flew nearly ten hours and is now sitting hungry in the private room. What exactly are you trying to do?"
"Lola, it’s not about what I’m trying to do. It’s them bullying the customers!" Caleb Sullivan said, feeling wronged.
"You’re not leaving, huh?" Lola Gold couldn’t bear it anymore, "Then stay here and argue all day. We’re going to eat, and we’ll leave after that."
She had just turned to leave when suddenly, someone appearing to be the manager walked over.
"Apologies, dear guests. Our staff was mistaken. Please feel free to dine today—your bill has already been covered."
"Who?" Lola Gold and Caleb Sullivan asked simultaneously.
The manager glanced toward the entrance, "That gentleman over there. He’s already left."
Lola Gold looked at the man’s fading figure and instantly knew who it was. She shot Caleb Sullivan a furious glare, "We’re not done with this!"
She turned and walked back to the private room.
Caleb Sullivan quickly chased after her, "Who was that man? Why did he cover your bill?"
Lola Gold ignored him, but when they reached the private room door, she finally lowered her voice and warned, "Once we go inside, don’t say a word—or else I won’t let you off."
She entered first, saying, "We’re back. Let’s order. Caleb just ran into a friend and talked for a bit."
"Oh." Yolanda Greenwood chuckled, her eyes scanning both of their faces. She could already tell they were upset, but chose not to point it out.
"Let’s order," Lola Gold repeated.
Yolanda Greenwood picked up the electronic menu and ordered only a simple fried rice dish, "This is something I can only get back home in China. Just looking at it makes me crave it."
"Only this?" Lola Gold looked a little disappointed.
"Sure, I’m not that hungry. I had something on the plane earlier." Yolanda Greenwood didn’t want to make her uncomfortable, so added, "Oh, also order Ella’s tiramisu. Otherwise, this little foodie..."
"That thing’s way too sweet. Can a kid eat that?" Caleb Sullivan suddenly interjected.
Lola Gold’s face changed slightly, just as she was about to snap, but Little Ella spoke first.
"Uncle is right. Actually, mommy doesn’t really like me eating this either. I won’t eat it then." Little Ella hugged Lola Gold’s neck, "I’ll just have a fried egg. Fried eggs are the most nutritious."
Lola Gold’s eyes reddened slightly, handing Little Ella to Yolanda Greenwood before turning to face Caleb Sullivan, "Let’s go outside for a moment."
"Lola!" Yolanda Greenwood hurriedly pulled her back, gently shaking her head.
"Why are you angry?" Caleb Sullivan sat there without moving, "I wasn’t stopping the kid from eating. You yourself heard—Yolanda also thinks it’s not good. If you really want to eat it, then go ahead and order it."
He picked up the electronic menu, "What else do you want? Order as much as you like. Today I’ll pay—I’m not about to let your ex-boyfriend foot the bill."
Yolanda Greenwood’s expression changed.
"Caleb Sullivan, cut it out! I told you, he’s not my ex-boyfriend."
"Not your ex-boyfriend? Then who is he? Dining at such an expensive restaurant, not even asking how many of you are eating or what you’re ordering, just readily picking up the bill—who else would be willing to spend money like that for you?"
