Chapter 352: Chapter 352: Alive, I Need to See the Person; Dead, I Need to See the Body

"Cooper, no one is lying to you. Look at the contents of the file, and you’ll know whether this is real or not."

After Noah finished speaking, he turned and walked to the window. His shoulders twitched uncontrollably, clearly shaking with quiet sobs.

Cooper raised his head and looked toward Adam, hoping to find even the slightest flaw on Adam’s face.

Yet, Adam simply gazed at him silently, his hand holding out the folder trembling slightly.

"Fine, let’s see what kind of tricks you’re playing." Cooper finally took the folder, but he didn’t yet know that his face had turned as pale as paper.

The folder sat on his knees for quite a while before he chuckled weakly, "It must be fake, fabricated just now, it must be."

Then, he opened the folder.

Inside was a thick dossier, each page meticulously documenting patient Yolanda Greenwood’s condition.

November 23: After an initial conversation with Yolanda, I can confirm she suffers from severe depression. She hopes the child in her womb will give her more reasons to keep living.

December 5: It turns out that Yolanda’s depression stems from her childhood experiences. She has spent her life doubting herself because of that rescue. I deeply admire her courage to remain so kind despite everything. I will do everything I can to help her.

December 17: Yolanda began unintentionally self-harming. Seeing the bloody wounds on her arms, I felt her pain as if it were my own. How on earth can I help her?

December 25: Yolanda attempted suicide for the first time. It was terrifying—the child’s existence could no longer give her any reason to continue living. She seems abandoned by everyone, stranded on a lonely island. I want to reach that island and bring her back safely.

December 28: In just three days, Yolanda attempted suicide for the second time. What more can I do?

Cooper flipped through the pages, as if watching a movie of Yolanda’s past life. The dossier even included many photographs, and he could tell clearly that none of this was fabricated.

"She actually developed depression as a young girl," Adam lowered his head, pausing before continuing, "Back then, after she saved you and Noah, neither of you thanked her. She was injured because of it and even verbally abused and blamed by her so-called parents."

"I have no idea how she managed to grow up over all these years."

"Depression has always been a beast lurking in her heart. Every time you or Noah hurt her, that beast emerged to bite her again." Adam’s expression turned cold as he stared at Cooper. "You looked at her, thinking she seemed normal, healthy, resilient—but her heart has long been drenched in blood."

"Impossible, impossible." Cooper kept shaking his head, refusing to accept this conclusion. "She has amazing self-healing abilities. She’s always been so strong. Nothing can defeat her. She wouldn’t abandon herself, much less abandon Ella. It’s impossible."

"Cooper, what’s the point of deceiving yourself right now?" Adam exhaled deeply. "Accept it. We all have to accept it. Yolanda is already gone."

"No way!" Cooper shot to his feet. "No way! And furthermore..."

Suddenly, he thought of something. "Even if she really jumped, it doesn’t mean she’s dead. Right, it doesn’t mean she’s dead."

He threw down the dossier and turned to walk out.

"Where are you going?" Adam took a step to chase after him, confused.

"I’m going to save her. She’s not dead. I need to save her." Cooper’s voice was quickly muffled by the door closing behind him.

He dialed Richard Reyes while descending the stairs.

Clearly, Richard had also heard the news. As soon as he picked up, his tone was especially cautious, "President Coldson, are... you okay?"

"Contact the rescue team immediately," Cooper commanded without hesitation.

"Rescue team?" Richard instantly grasped his meaning. He hesitated briefly before cautiously reminding him, "President Coldson, the location Miss Yolanda Greenwood jumped from is... deep sea. I’m afraid..."

"Did you not understand me?" Cooper cut him off. "Or do you not want your job anymore?"

Richard fell silent.

"Let me tell you, no matter how much it costs, I must find her," Cooper stated resolutely, standing in the freezing wind outside. "Alive, she must be seen. Dead, her corpse must be found."

Isabella Ross waited at home until the early hours of the morning, but Cooper still hadn’t returned.

Unable to hold back her worry, she called Noah. "Little Noah, is Cooper still with you?"

"Mom, Cooper went out. He probably won’t come back tonight," Noah sighed. "Mom, you should go to bed early. Don’t wait for him."

"Went out?" Isabella immediately became tense. "Where? Little Noah, tell Mom, where did he go?"

"He..." Noah knew he couldn’t hide it, and the longer he didn’t say, the more she would worry. "Cooper went to the sea. He... he wants to recover Yolanda’s body."

"..." Tears instantly flooded Isabella’s eyes. "How could this be? It’s like finding a needle in the ocean, a needle in the ocean! Little Noah, why didn’t you try to talk him out of it?"

"Mom, I couldn’t stop him." Noah was clearly helpless too. "Mom, let him go. He must go through this process. I trust he’ll figure it out eventually."

"Poor Cooper, my poor son." Isabella was now left with nothing but tears.

Cooper, Richard, and a thirty-man rescue team arrived at the spot where Yolanda had jumped into the sea by 3 a.m. They started the search, or perhaps recovery effort. Yet, everyone except for Cooper knew this would lead nowhere.

The rescue team took the money as they repeatedly dove into the sea, repeatedly reporting back to Richard that they’d found nothing.

Richard watched as the sun began to rise once again. He walked over to Cooper and said, "President Coldson, why don’t you rest for a while? I’ll keep watch."

"No need, I’m not tired." Cooper was indeed wide awake, his eyes round and bloodshot, the dark circles under them heavier than anyone else’s.

"President Coldson, this sea area is very deep, and the rescue team needs time. You really should take a break," Richard urged in concern.

"No need." Cooper stubbornly rejected the suggestion again.

Richard shook his head and ultimately let him be.

A day passed, then two. Cooper neither ate nor drank, nor had he slept. The rescue team was near exhaustion but still had nothing to show for their efforts.

"President Coldson, please eat something and rest for a while," Richard pleaded, fearing that Cooper couldn’t hold on much longer.

Cooper stood like an unmoving statue on the sea, his voice weak and strained, "Keep... searching!"

"President Coldson, the rescue team can’t hold on anymore. We may need to return to shore for now," Richard suggested cautiously.

"What? Think the money isn’t enough?" Cooper glanced at the rescue team resting not far away. "Add fifty thousand per person per day. Keep searching!"

Yet the rescue team exchanged looks, and not one of them had the strength to dive back into the water.

"Listen, sir," the rescue team’s captain finally said, "I think it’s best you stop wasting your time and money. This is deep sea. Someone jumping in... might have already been eaten by sharks!"
