Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Want to Give to the Most Important Person

"Yolanda..." Noah Coldson finally mustered the courage to speak, "I..."

"Big Brother!" Yolanda Greenwood almost interrupted Noah subconsciously as she kept her head down, not daring to look at him, "Lola is right, it’s getting late. You guys should go back and rest first."

"..." For a moment, Noah was visibly stunned, the courage he had just barely summoned seemed stuck in limbo.

Adam Sterling frowned slightly, trying to speak up for Noah, "Yolanda, actually, Noah has something he wants to tell you."

"I know." Yolanda’s voice was slightly choked and she repeated, "I know. But I’m tired, I want to rest first."

She didn’t dare to look at them, especially Noah; she was afraid to see the disappointment in his eyes.

She turned to leave.

Adam wanted to stop her, but he got grabbed by Lola Gold.

Lola shook her head, clearly understanding that some things can’t be forced. Yolanda’s attitude showed that pushing her too hard would likely backfire.

"Yolanda!" Unexpectedly, Noah spoke again, this time without hesitation or struggle in his voice.

Lola and Adam watched intently, looking from Noah to Yolanda.

Yolanda stopped at her own room’s door, still with her back to them, her head down, her eyes fixed on her toes.

"Yolanda, don’t be nervous." Noah stepped forward, "Actually, it’s not a big deal..."

He reached into his pocket, took out a red velvet box, and extended it towards Yolanda, "This is for you."

Just a gift?

Yolanda hesitantly lifted her head to look at Noah.

The man stood tall and strong in front of Yolanda like a mountain, able to give her endless security.

His cheeks were slightly red, his eyes full of thick, undissolvable affection, yet his gaze was extra cautious, the smile on his lips as warm as a child’s.

"Don’t worry, it’s just a gift," Noah emphasized again, "Take it, we should be going back now."

Yolanda looked at the box. It was exquisite, but clearly not ring-sized, and, the box had an especially solemn air about it.

She struggled for a moment before finally taking it and opening it - inside was a gold medal.

Noah’s voice proudly rang out, "This was personally awarded to me by the leaders in the central government on this trip, first-class merit."

Yolanda’s eyes widened in shock.

Upon hearing it was a first-class military merit medal, Lola’s interest instantly peaked, and she quickly moved over, "Let me see."

"Big Brother, I can’t accept this gift," Yolanda regained her composure and immediately refused, "It’s too valuable."

"It’s all right," Noah started to get nervous, "I will definitely earn more in the future. This is the first one, so I thought..."

Adam added from not far away, "So he wanted to give it to the most important person."

Noah’s face flushed through, but his eyes still held a hopeful look as he gazed at Yolanda, "Yolanda, please take it. I have no other requests. I honestly just want to give you a gift."

"I can’t take it." Yolanda stuffed the gift into Lola’s arms, turned into her room, and as she closed the door said, "I’m sorry, Big Brother."

The door closed, separating the four people, yet they all stood still, not moving.

After a while, Lola kicked Adam’s shoe and winked at him.

Adam sighed softly, patted Noah’s shoulder, "Let’s go, head back first."

Noah came back to reality, gave an awkward smile to Lola, "Well, it’s late, we should be going back."

He pointed at the door, "After we leave, keep her company, talk to her."

Lola, always the voice of reason, felt a twinge of sorrow in her nose at this moment’s Noah.

She watched them turn to leave, then suddenly called out loudly, "Hey, don’t you want your thing?"

She threw the red velvet box back at him, "This thing can’t be regifted."

Noah caught it with a practiced grasp, his smile as normal as possible, "Thanks."

As Lola saw them out the door, she couldn’t help but cheer for Noah, "Big Brother, don’t be discouraged. One day, your gift will definitely be given."

"Go see how Yolanda is doing," Noah carefully pocketed the box before leaving with Adam.

Once in the elevator, his demeanor dropped, head hanging low, looking like a large dog abandoned by its owner.

"What’s the matter?" Adam nudged his shoe, "Lola just said it too, it will be successful in the future, I believe so as well."

Noah let out a deep sigh and asked Adam seriously, "Do you think I’m very different from Cooper?"

"Of course," Adam affirmed. "He’s a domineering CEO, you... you’re reliable. But also impressive, a lieutenant colonel, so young."

He was clearly trying to cheer Noah up, but it wasn’t very effective.

"I mean, if Yolanda once loved Cooper deeply, is there still a chance she could fall for me?" Noah’s eyes carried a profound sadness. "After all, Cooper and I, we really are very different."

"What kind of logic is that?" Adam, a psychologist without any romantic experience, suddenly became a love guru, speaking with authority, "People change, y’know. Yolanda now isn’t the Yolanda from before."

He said with certainty, "You see, every seven years, all the cells in the body have completely renewed. She is not the same person as before, so why can’t she fall in love with you?"

Noah clearly took this to heart as he asked eagerly, "Really?"

"Of course, it’s true." Adam nodded vigorously to add credibility to his claim.

Noah’s expression brightened slightly.

"Don’t think too much, I guess..." Adam pondered deeply, stroking his chin, "Yolanda’s divorce hasn’t gone through."

Noah frowned; indeed, during their phone conversation today, he felt Yolanda was hesitant, and when they were together in the kitchen earlier, she seemed to have something on her mind.

He thought, if the divorce were final, Yolanda would have told him.

"Is getting a divorce this troublesome?" For the first time, Noah felt anxious and frustratedly ruffled his hair.

Adam clicked his tongue twice, "The divorce isn’t the hard part. The problem is that one of the two doesn’t want to part."

Noah nodded in agreement.

"Before, maybe it was Yolanda, but now," Adam patted Noah’s shoulder, "I think Yolanda has made up her mind, you have to help her."

"How do I help?" Noah clearly felt troubled, "Cooper is my brother, I already owe him."

"How have you wronged him?" Adam was incredulous, "You haven’t really taken his wife. He gave up on her first, then you were moved. You’re not a third party."

"It’s not that, I mean..." Noah was obviously struggling to express himself, pausing before continuing, "When I was a kid, I irresponsibly ran off overseas, dumping responsibilities that should’ve been on my shoulders onto him, I’ve always felt guilty."

Adam was at a loss for words, "Asking a six-year-old to bear such consequences, isn’t that too cruel?"
