Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Tell Her to Stop Being Delusional
Noah Coldson and Adam Sterling had left when Lola Gold went to knock on Yolanda Greenwood’s door. It was still early, and Yolanda wouldn’t be asleep.
"Yolanda, do you want to come out and talk?" she asked, pressing her ear against the door, "They’ve gone back."
There was a quick stir inside, and soon the door opened. Yolanda stood at the door, her face full of apologies.
Lola couldn’t help but laugh at her appearance, going up to hug her, "What’s the matter? You almost received such a great gift just now. You should be happy!"
Yolanda hung her head, silent.
Lola took her hand and started walking towards the living room, "Your big brother really cares about you. Just before he left, he was still worried that you might be too hard on yourself."
The mention of this made Yolanda’s heart ache even more, and her eyes reddened instantly.
"Don’t cry, don’t cry!" Lola fumbled to wipe her tears, "Oh no, if big brother knows I made you cry, he’s definitely going to beat me up."
Yolanda tried to control her emotions and sniffed, "Was he very disappointed just now?"
Her voice was particularly soft, "I didn’t dare to look at him; I was afraid I couldn’t handle it."
"There might have been a little." Lola got serious, "I guess... what big brother didn’t say just now was..."
Yolanda looked up at her, clearly very nervous.
"I guess he wanted to propose, to propose with that medal," Lola said somewhat enviously, "Think about it, it’s so romantic. I wonder if it was Adam Sterling’s idea."
Indeed, at that time Yolanda also had a strong premonition that Noah was going to propose, or at least wanted to confirm their relationship.
She didn’t want to reject him, to embarrass him, but she also didn’t want to agree to him now.
Yolanda always felt it wasn’t the right time. She wasn’t ready to start a new relationship, at least not the one she had with Cooper Coldson that hadn’t officially ended yet.
"Yolanda, I know what you’re thinking," Lola said affectionately, linking arms with her, "You want to settle your divorce with Cooper, have your two babies, and then think about this carefully, right?"
Yolanda nodded.
"I guess big brother would understand too," Lola said very seriously, "Yolanda, not just you, most women may never meet a man as good as big brother in their lives. You really, really need to think it through, don’t miss out lightly."
"I know he’s very good, very very good," Yolanda sighed softly, "But every time I realize this, I wonder, do I deserve it?"
"Of course, you deserve," said Lola with certainty, "My Yolanda is the best in my heart as well, deserving of the best of everything."
"You too." Yolanda lightly pinched Lola’s nose.
She then asked with concern, "Are you hungry? Have some more cake."
"Okay, you have some with me," Lola said coquettishly to Yolanda.
Yolanda nodded, thinking she would send a message to Noah before going to sleep.
Meanwhile, Noah had dropped Adam off at the hotel and then returned to the old mansion, not expecting to find Cooper there.
"You’re back," Noah greeted him proactively.
"Yeah," Cooper replied indifferently, getting up to leave.
Noah hesitated but also stood, blocking Cooper’s way, "We need to talk."
"About what?" Cooper frowned, "Planning to start a fight again?"
"No," Noah said with a hopeless twist of his mouth, "Cooper, I want to sit down with you and talk things through calmly."
The two were similar in build, Noah slightly taller and more robust, his presence honed in the military, often appearing like a god of death, the kind that even the bad guys would want to flee from.
However, Cooper, when facing him, was nearly unbeatable in terms of presence.
In the world of business, he was equally a god of death. With a flick of his finger, he could shake multimillion-dollar enterprises; with a glance, countless lofty bosses would scurry to bow and scrape.
The two men, one from the age of six and the other from five, took different paths but similarly difficult ones, both forging the stature today where they could stand eye to eye with each other.
Cooper’s expression remained cold, his tone even chillier, "What’s to talk about? Yolanda? Do you think you can stay calm?"
"Today, we’re not talking about Yolanda," Noah said immediately.
Surprise flickered in Cooper’s eyes, and he seemed less sharp as he sat back down.
Noah sat beside him, and seeing him about to get up, he pressed his hand down.
"Don’t be so distant. I remember you used to cling to me when we were kids," Noah said, his tone sounding somewhat aggrieved.
Cooper relaxed his body, giving up the intent to leave, "I’m not used to sharing a sofa with someone."
"Indeed, Patriarch of the Coldson Family, President of the Coldson Group, there are very few who have the privilege to sit on the same sofa as you," Noah teased with a hooked smile.
Cooper crossed his long legs nonchalantly, "Say what you have to say, quickly."
"Cooper, do you remember our childhood?" Noah’s eyes brightened, "Once, a servant at home bought several chicks, planning to raise them in the backyard..."
Cooper shifted his position, clearly recalling the memory.
Noah continued, "Later, we took a chick from that servant, promising her we’d take good care of it."
"Do you remember what happened to that chick afterward?" he asked smilingly at Cooper.
Cooper furrowed his brow, "It’s been so many years, I’ve forgotten."
"Later, you threw the chick into the swimming pool, wanted to teach it to swim, and it drowned. You cried all afternoon," Noah laughed, "You were so upset, even said you’d give up your life to the chick."
Cooper’s face turned even sourer. He stood up abruptly, "Is this what you wanted to talk about? Then I’m not interested. I’m going to sleep."
"There’s nothing really important," Noah also stood up, "but sometimes when I look at you, I think, if I hadn’t left back then, you would still be the person who cried over a chick..."
He looked at Cooper with pity, "Instead of being like this now, acting as if you don’t care about anything, dealing with everything so coldly and officially."
"Big brother, I don’t know what you’re really trying to say," Cooper looked back at Noah with profound eyes, "Though one thing I want to tell you, I’m quite happy the way I am now. I’m satisfied, and whether you had left or not, I won’t be the person who cries over a chick anymore."
With that, he strode away.
"Do you really think you’re fine?" Noah called after him, "Cooper, if you truly don’t want to divorce Yolanda, if you want to get her back, you can say it..."
"So, it’s about Yolanda after all." Cooper let out a cold laugh as he lowered his head, "What? Did she tell you I don’t want a divorce?"
As he walked upstairs, he said indifferently, "Tell her not to flatter herself."
