Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Cooper Coldson Asks Melissa Greenwood to Undergo Fertility Tests
Melissa Greenwood snapped back to reality, already holding the package in her hand.
She broke out in a cold sweat, tossed the package onto the bed, and stared at it in terror.
Yet in her heart, two voices emerged, making her feel as if she was being torn in two.
One voice kept saying, "Give it a try, your heart is already so bitter. Everyone is letting you down, finding some joy and thrill for yourself is no problem."
The other voice was very rational, "You must not touch it, absolutely not. Otherwise, your life would truly be destroyed."
"What could possibly destroy you? You’re so wealthy, so smart, you just need to restrain yourself from going too far, this thing won’t affect your life one bit!"
"It’s not okay, aren’t there enough examples in real life? Be sober and don’t touch it!"
"Trust yourself, Melissa Greenwood, maybe you won’t even get addicted, it’s just a little bit. Try it out, how could it cost you a lifetime?"
The other voice gradually faded, and Melissa’s gaze hardened. She picked up the package from the bed.
It looked ordinary, but did it really possess such great power?
Melissa opened the seal and poured a little into her palm, then took a deep breath, her eyes glued to the substance.
The first time, she failed; she still didn’t have enough courage to get close.
The second time, she pinched one nostril and moved her palm closer.
After positioning it, she closed her eyes, inhaled strongly, and in almost an instant, she collapsed to the ground, her body convulsing uncontrollably with excitement.
This indeed was a happiness she had never felt before.
Although it lasted only a few seconds, by the time it ended, Melissa was already in tears.
Then, she couldn’t help crying, feeling a vast emptiness inside her that couldn’t be filled, generating a deep fear of plummeting into an abyss.
Melissa didn’t even remember when she last cried so painfully.
"Mommy?"
Suddenly a voice startled her.
She didn’t know when Little May had appeared at the door.
"Mommy, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?" Little May asked timidly, her eyes filled with worry.
"May, come here." Melissa, still sitting on the floor, sniffed and waved to Little May.
It seemed like the first time she called May with such tenderness in her voice.
Little May immediately scurried over, "Mommy, who bullied you? Shall May hit them for you? Was it Uncle Coldson?"
Melissa pulled her child into her arms, "No one bullied mommy, and no one can."
It wasn’t that she suddenly felt affection for Little May; she just felt the need to hold someone at that moment, regardless of who it was.
"Mommy is the best," Little May said happily, though her face carried little joy, "Mommy is the best."
Melissa held her for a while, feeling much better eventually, before finally letting go of Little May.
She stood up, tidied up the package on the bed, and sat in front of the dressing mirror to carefully adjust her makeup.
Her voice returned to its previous indifference as she asked Little May, "What did you just see?"
"May only saw mommy crying, mommy looked very sad." Little May stood obediently at her side.
Melissa paused in applying her lipstick and glanced at the little one with satisfaction, "That’s good."
Actually, even though Little May hadn’t seen her using that stuff, she had seen it when she was tidying up just now.
But the child obviously knew better, speaking without letting anything slip.
"May is good. In a few days, let Uncle Coldson take us to the amusement park, okay?"
"Yes, May loves amusement parks." Little May clapped her hands happily.
"Let’s go then." Melissa didn’t feel like saying much more.
At this moment, she felt clear and energetic, filled with determination.
She wouldn’t give up, and she wouldn’t let Cooper Coldson and Yolanda Greenwood end up together.
A car horn sounded downstairs, and Melissa got up and went to the window, surprised to see Cooper had come.
This was unusual, Cooper rarely took the initiative to visit the Greenwood Family looking for her.
Melissa double-checked her reflection in the mirror to ensure she was flawless before swaying down the stairs.
"Cooper, what brings you here?" She, along with May, appeared at the villa entrance, looking like a wife greeting her husband with their child.
Cooper got out of the car and gave a tight-lipped smile, "I’ve come to take you guys out for dinner."
"Of course, come in for a bit, I’ll take May to change clothes." Melissa’s expression showed no signs of disturbance.
"No rush, I’ve booked for seven o’clock, we can sit for a while before leaving." Cooper entered the living room and took a seat on the sofa.
Melissa, ever so clever, knew Cooper had something to discuss.
Was he going to lay everything out on the table?
She sent Little May to pick clothing, and sat down with Cooper on the sofa.
"Cooper, you have something to talk about, don’t you?"
Cooper raised his eyebrow, for the first time realizing how well Melissa understood him.
He recalled Liam Dawson’s words from before, he truly hadn’t cared for Melissa, marrying her out of gratitude seemed not to be a good choice.
But he also knew clearly that Melissa truly wanted to marry him.
He pondered before speaking slowly, "Melissa, have you gone for a check-up recently?"
"Check-up?" Melissa was puzzled, "Cooper, what check-up are you talking about..."
"Melissa, I’m taking you to M country. I know a very good doctor there, your condition of being unable to have children..."
"Cooper, are you bothered by my inability to have children now?" Melissa immediately burst into tears, "I knew it, ever since I brought May home, you’ve grown to like her more and thought about having your own children, I always knew it would come to this."
"Melissa, don’t cry, don’t you also want to be a real mother?"
Cooper wrinkled his brow slightly in irritation, every time they discussed infertility, Melissa became extremely emotional, making it hard for him not to get annoyed.
Frankly, he didn’t care about it. Whether having children or not, what difference would it make?
He continued, "It’s been almost twenty years since that happened, I think, with medical advancement being so rapid, maybe there’s a way now."
Melissa looked at him pitifully, "Could it be? I almost go for checks every year, but the results..."
She couldn’t help but start to cry again, "Cooper, I really don’t want to harbor unnecessary hope anymore, it’s too torturous for me."
"Melissa, trust me, I mean well for you. A trip to M country won’t take much time, and if it still doesn’t work, then we’ve done our best, right?"
Cooper didn’t give Melissa a chance to refuse, "Melissa, let’s try one more time, it’s settled then!"
