Chapter 256: Chapter 256 Cooper Coldson Asks Little May’s Full Name

Melissa Greenwood shifted her posture, looked serious, and asked, "Do you really want to stay by my side?"

May immediately nodded vigorously and emphasized again, "May likes Mommy."

"You can stay, but you must obey," Melissa Greenwood held up a finger. "The first rule, and the most important one, is to forget that I am your birth mother."

May seemed not to quite understand, blinking her big eyes she asked, "Why?"

"Because when your father and I had you, it was a mistake," Melissa Greenwood exclaimed in frustration, "I wish none of it had ever happened."

The little one’s chin dropped, downtrodden, "Mommy doesn’t like May."

"Yes, I don’t like you, I don’t like you, and I don’t like your father either," Melissa Greenwood emphasized repeatedly, "And in the future, I will have my own children, and they will be my treasures."

She grabbed May by her clothes, pulling her closer, "If you want to stay by my side, forget I am your mom, can you do that?"

The little one’s eyes moistened, yet stubbornly held back her tears, and quietly responded, "I remember."

Melissa Greenwood nodded in satisfaction; at least she was her offspring and wouldn’t be too foolish.

She taught May some phrases, then sent her off to sleep, "Tomorrow morning I’ll take you to meet my uncle, who is my future husband."

"Okay," the little one obediently replied.

"The phrases I just taught you, practice them tonight, and don’t mess up tomorrow, do you understand?" she threatened fiercely, "If you say the wrong thing, you’ll have to go to the rescue station and live with a bunch of stray cats and dogs, got it?"

The little one nodded fearfully.

The next morning, Melissa Greenwood took Little May to Cooper Coldson’s office.

She asked Little May to wait outside while she went to see Cooper.

"Cooper," her voice was obviously choked up, and her eyes were a bit red, "You’re finally back."

"What happened?" Since the divorce hadn’t gone through, Cooper already felt somewhat guilty. "What’s wrong?"

"Cooper, can we adopt a child?" Melissa Greenwood sobbed as she spoke, "I promise she is a very well-behaved, obedient little girl."

Cooper became increasingly confused, "What is really going on?"

But recalling the words Yolanda Greenwood said on the plane, his mood wasn’t as resistant as before.

"Cooper, I don’t want to adopt a child for no reason; it’s actually..." Melissa Greenwood started to cry sorrowfully again.

Cooper stood up and walked over, putting his hand gently on Melissa Greenwood’s shoulder, "Stop crying, tell me what’s happening."

Melissa sniffed, "When I was in America, I was always looked after by a senior, and I wanted to thank him properly this time I returned, but I couldn’t find any news about him."

"Later, I found out he had fallen into drug use, living in a decrepit apartment," she cried even more sadly, "It really took me by surprise, Cooper, you might know that senior..."

Melissa became slightly nervous, "Brooks Parker, Senior Brother Brooks. Do you remember him?"

Cooper remembered because Brooks had once been considered a rival for Yolanda’s affection when he was with her. Later, however, it seemed Brooks wasn’t interested in Yolanda.

"He’s using drugs?" He had a deep impression of this person who seemed like a bright young man with a promising future. How could he have gone astray?

"Yes, I was surprised too," Melissa was relieved to see Cooper didn’t react too sharply.

She continued, "Moreover, he has a child, a little girl."

Cooper faintly understood, "Is she the child you want to adopt?"

Melissa nodded.

Cooper frowned, "There are many ways you could help him without necessarily separating father and daughter."

"Actually, this was also Senior Brother Brooks’s idea," Melissa sniffed, "Brooks knew he was in a bad way, so he wanted to entrust the child to me, and..."

She broke down crying again, unable to continue.

Cooper sensed something was amiss, "Is there something else?"

"Just a few days ago, I got the news that Senior Brother Brooks... he died," Melissa looked extremely distraught.

Cooper didn’t know what to say at the moment.

The two of them were silent for a while; then Melissa spoke again, "Cooper, I took the liberty this time... will you support me?"

Cooper silently looked at her.

Melissa then opened the office door and invited Little May in.

The moment he saw Little May, Cooper recognized her, "Is it you? Are you Brooks Parker’s daughter?"

Melissa deliberately asked him, "Cooper, do you know her?"

Previously, Cooper had secretly met with Yolanda Greenwood, and he couldn’t reveal that.

He merely sat back down, looking unnaturally, "She looks familiar; maybe I’m mistaken."

He continued to observe Little May curiously.

This girl lived in the same building as Yolanda Greenwood, so did that mean Brooks lived in the building below Yolanda’s? Did they have interactions?

He glanced at Melissa again, suddenly feeling that these events were too coincidental.

Could it be that Yolanda and others suddenly rushed back to the country because Brooks had died?

"Come, May, say hello to uncle," Melissa gently pushed May forward.

May timidly greeted, "Hello, uncle."

"Your nickname is May?" Cooper glanced quickly at Melissa, continuing to inquire, "What’s your full name?"

May shook her head, "I don’t have a full name."

Yesterday, Melissa had told her not to reveal her real name was Eloise Parker; it’s a name that could raise suspicions too easily.

Melissa smiled helplessly, "They say she was an accidental child; even her mother is unknown, Senior Brother Brooks likely just wanted the little girl to be pretty, so he named her May."

Cooper seemingly spoke casually, "It seems you and your parents had the same idea."

"..." Melissa chuckled awkwardly, "What parents wouldn’t want their daughter to be pretty?"

Cooper remained silent.

"Cooper, can we keep her?" Melissa asked again.

This time, May boldly stepped forward, standing next to Cooper, "Uncle, please keep me, I can do many things."

Cooper found it interesting and teasingly asked, "What can you do?"

"I can guard the door, pour water for uncle, and help uncle carry things," the little one pledged solemnly, "Uncle, no matter how you hit me, I won’t cry."

Cooper frowned, "Did your father ever hit you?"

"Yes," May nodded, "When my dad missed my mom, he would hit May."

Melissa heard this and felt a jolt in her heart; she didn’t know about this nor had she instructed May not to mention it.

This child was indeed young and prone to speaking carelessly.

She watched the two nervously, hesitating about whether to take May away immediately, fearing she might say something wrong again.
