Chapter 233: Chapter 233 It’s Easy to Kill Someone Here
Melissa Greenwood returned to the hotel and found that Cooper Coldson had already gone to the company.
She took a shower, changed her clothes, and then hurried to the company.
Last night, after Brooks Parker had his fix, he was particularly rough, and she suspected she had a tear down there, walking was especially painful.
Upon arriving at the company, Melissa went straight to see Cooper Coldson.
"Cooper," she said with a somewhat guilty smile, "Last night I..."
Cooper looked up at her, "You didn’t rest well last night, did you? I saw you hadn’t left this morning and guessed as much, you really didn’t need to come, just go back and get some good sleep."
Melissa felt bitter throughout; it turned out that Cooper hadn’t even noticed she hadn’t come home all night.
Or rather, whether she was there or not, whether she came back or not, Cooper never cared.
"Okay, I’ll go back and catch up on sleep." She really did feel very tired and couldn’t be bothered to stay longer, so she gave a wry smile and turned to leave.
On her way back, the more she thought about it, the angrier she got; all this was because of Yolanda.
She had put a special drug in those two teddy bears that could increase the risk of miscarriage, but it wasn’t enough, she should have killed Yolanda directly.
Now in M country, it was very simple to kill someone.
After returning to the hotel, Melissa immediately called the assassin organization she had found before and changed the target from Brooks Parker to Yolanda, and the sooner the mission was completed, the better.
That very night, two black men appeared near Yolanda’s apartment.
And coincidentally, Noah Coldson and Adam Sterling were there too; they had just finished a mission and wanted to check on Yolanda, only to discover the ill-intentioned fellows.
Luckily, both Noah and Adam brought guns, and they quietly subdued the two black men, but Noah’s arm was slashed in the process.
"I’ll take them back for questioning," Noah insisted that Adam stay behind, "You go up and check on her."
"No, we’re going back together, what if they have accomplices?" Adam disagreed, "You’re injured now, it’s too dangerous to go back alone."
"It’s because I’m worried they may have accomplices that I want you to stay," Noah stated firmly, "Yolanda is pregnant; if something goes wrong, could you or I live with ourselves?"
"..." Adam was speechless, "Do you ever consider yourself?"
"Get out!" Noah kicked open the car door.
Adam got out of the car huffily, just about to tell Noah to report back to camp when the car suddenly sped away.
He shook his head helplessly, did a round around the apartment, and then went upstairs.
Yolanda felt much better today. During dinner time, she carefully got out of bed and chatted with Leah Diaz in the living room.
Leah’s family said Little Wood’s condition had improved a lot and urged Leah to send money quickly as they were running out.
Leah was nearly driven mad, and the worst part was, they never let her see Little Wood, stating that it wasn’t convenient in the ICU.
Hearing the knock at the door, Leah wiped her tears, "I’ll get the door."
Upon opening it, she found Adam Sterling and joyfully called out, "Yolanda, Dr. Sterling has come."
She had always thought Adam was Yolanda’s boyfriend, but Yolanda had said he wasn’t; still, Leah always felt that Adam had feelings for Yolanda, otherwise, he wouldn’t be so concerned about her.
In recent days, Yolanda had been mentioning losing contact with Adam, so Leah said with a smile, "Yolanda has been missing you for days, if you didn’t come, she’d have to post a missing-person notice."
"Really?" Adam smiled. As he entered the living room, he explained, "I’ve been on a mission these past few days, my phone was off."
Yolanda understood their rules and quickly invited him to sit.
Leah brought out some fruit and tactfully returned to her room.
"Are you okay? Doesn’t your body feel well?" Adam immediately noticed something was off with Yolanda.
"I might have overexerted myself the last few days, I’ve rested for two days now, and I feel much better today." Yolanda didn’t want him to worry too much.
After some light conversation, Adam got to the point, "Yolanda, have you made enemies with anyone since you came here?"
"Enemies?" Yolanda shook her head in confusion, "Since coming here, I hardly know anyone, just going between the company and the apartment, I shouldn’t have made enemies."
"That’s strange." Adam lowered his voice, "When I came over today, I saw two black men loitering around your building for a long time. I felt something was off and caught them. They said..."
He looked very serious, "Someone paid them to take your life."
Yolanda’s eyes widened in shock, "How is this possible?"
"Don’t be afraid, we’ve already caught those two, and I bet camp will get something out of them tonight, but..." Adam sighed, "This place isn’t exactly our turf, and there’s only so much we can interfere with."
He then reminded Yolanda, "Yolanda, think carefully, are you really sure you haven’t offended anyone? This also includes colleagues, or maybe a neighbor in the apartment, anyone?"
Yolanda thought hard but couldn’t figure it out.
"At the company, I usually only interact with the supervisor and Sister Leah, hardly speaking a few words to others. As for the neighbors..."
She thought it was improbable, "I’ve only had contact with the man downstairs, but I only help look after his child when I have time, he’s very grateful to me, so he shouldn’t have hired someone to kill me."
Yolanda felt rather dejected, "I really can’t think of anyone who would want to kill me."
"It seems this person is hiding in the shadows." Adam comforted Yolanda, "Don’t be scared, I will speak to headquarters, for the next few days, someone will keep a watch around here, and be careful when you go out yourself."
"Thank you, Dr. Sterling," Yolanda hesitated.
"Yolanda, you’re not hiding anything, are you?" Adam obviously misunderstood.
"No, I’m not, how could I dare under these circumstances?" Yolanda smiled bitterly before finally gathering the courage to ask, "I was wondering... why haven’t there been any updates on Noah lately? Is he on a mission too?"
"Missing him?" Adam immediately inquired.
"Ah?" Yolanda couldn’t quite discern her own feelings, "I just want to make sure he’s alright."
Adam chuckled softly, "He’s got a minor injury, should be nothing serious, if you have time, send him a few messages to comfort him, I think it’ll help him recover faster."
Yolanda bashfully lowered her head, "Alright, I’ll send him messages."
Adam recalled the incident at the hospital where someone went after Yolanda to get back at Noah; could it be the same this time?
He asked carefully, "Yolanda, our mission this time was connected to drug traffickers."
Yolanda listened with a tense expression.
"Is there anyone around you who looks like they might be addicted to drugs?" Adam probed further.
Yolanda shook her head, "I’m not sure, since coming here, the people I’ve been in contact with have all been pretty decent."
"Right, these junkies are the most unrestrained when they go mad." Adam reminded Yolanda one last time, "If you see someone around who always seems to lack energy, especially the young, try to stay away from them as much as possible."
