Chapter 228: Chapter 228 The Man Downstairs Suddenly Became Rich
"What do you mean by that, Leah Diaz?" the other party was completely furious, "Do you think you’re so great just because you’ve made some money? Why don’t you come back to the country right away, you take care of the child, and I’ll go out to make money, I won’t earn less than you."
Leah Diaz spoke with difficulty, "That’s not what I meant, ten thousand a day, I really can’t afford it, now that your parents are here, let them take care of Little Wood, can’t you go find some work too?"
"Quit your damn nonsense." The other party cursed again, "Are my parents your free nannies? I’ll tell you, they came to the city to enjoy a good life, not to serve you and your daughter."
The phone call ended with a snap.
Leah Diaz couldn’t control herself anymore and burst into tears as soon as she put down the phone.
She had been strong for so long, but at that moment, she was finally broken.
At that time, Leah Diaz was in the kitchen while Yolanda Greenwood and May were in the living room; they both heard what Leah Diaz said on the phone and knew she was crying.
May cautiously looked at Yolanda Greenwood, "Is Aunt Leah’s child sick?"
"Yes." Yolanda Greenwood felt equally heartbroken and consoled gently, "May, sweetie, watch TV by yourself for a bit, I’ll go check on her."
"Okay." Little May sat very obediently.
She couldn’t help feeling a bit jealous of that Little Wood; despite having a severe illness, his mother hadn’t abandoned him.
Thinking of this, the little girl lowered her head and stealthily wiped away her tears with her small hands.
Yolanda Greenwood approached the kitchen door and tapped lightly, "Sister Leah, may I come in?"
"Come in." Leah Diaz wiped her tears and tried to compose herself.
"Sister Leah, are you okay?" Yolanda Greenwood pat Leah Diaz’s back with concern.
"I’m fine, Little Wood’s surgery was very successful." Leah Diaz tried to muster a smile, as she always tried to hide her wounds.
Yolanda Greenwood nodded and hesitated before asking, "Little Wood is hospitalized now, it costs ten thousand a day?"
"Yes, they say he has a lung infection, now he needs a ventilator." Leah Diaz sniffled, "It’s okay, I plan to do some more odd jobs, they say at most a week, seventy thousand, I can raise it."
"Sister Leah, you need to take good care of yourself, you are already very tired." Yolanda Greenwood knew that besides working at Tala, Leah Diaz also took on private jobs, staying up until the early hours every night.
"Sister Leah, I have fifty thousand in my account, I’ll transfer it to you first." Yolanda Greenwood was afraid she would refuse, "Sister Leah, you must pay me back because I will have to support two babies in the future, I’m just lending it to you for now."
Leah Diaz completely broke down, she hugged Yolanda Greenwood tightly and dropped all pretense.
"Yolanda, my heart really hurts, I never thought of giving up on my child’s treatment, but over the years, I really..." She cried out with all her might, "The child isn’t just mine, why can’t he share the burden? Why does he always blame me for not being in the country, don’t I want to be with Little Wood?"
"What mother wouldn’t want to be with her child?" She was in so much pain.
Yolanda Greenwood kept patting Leah Diaz’s back, comforting her softly, "It’ll be okay, Sister Leah, don’t be too sad, things will get better."
"I miss Little Wood so much, I really miss him a lot." Leah Diaz felt like she couldn’t hold on any longer.
"If you miss him, go back and see him." Yolanda Greenwood suggested, "In a while, I have to go back to the country myself, you can come with me."
Leah Diaz was clearly tempted, looking at Yolanda Greenwood without a word, obviously struggling.
"Little Wood must miss you too, it won’t hurt much to go back to the country for a visit." Yolanda Greenwood felt that if things continued like this, Leah Diaz would really have a breakdown.
"Let’s go back together." She urged again.
"I... I’ll think about it." Yet Leah Diaz still seemed very hesitant.
"Sister Leah..." Yolanda Greenwood wanted to persuade her further.
"I’ll think about it." Leah Diaz cut her off, wiping away her tears, "I’m fine now, go check on May, I’ll get started on dinner."
"Alright, then I’ll bring May over and we can help you." Yolanda Greenwood didn’t say more, it was obvious that Leah Diaz was resistant to going back to her home country.
Why, though? She couldn’t quite understand.
Yolanda Greenwood could see that Leah Diaz truly loved Little Wood and missed him, so why didn’t she want to go back to her country?
Brooks Parker didn’t return until after 10 o’clock at night, bringing lots of snacks for Yolanda Greenwood and company, and took May back with him.
"It’s like the sun rising from the west." Leah Diaz was surprised, "Isn’t this the first time he’s bought us anything? And so much, did he strike it rich?"
Yolanda Greenwood also found it strange, "Indeed."
Leah Diaz couldn’t help but guess boldly, "Perhaps the child’s mother is a rich woman, and she gave them money."
"Very likely." Yolanda Greenwood didn’t care to think too much and shared the items with Leah Diaz.
"I can’t take so much." Leah Diaz began to refuse, "Honestly, if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have taken May in, and besides, you’ve been covering the cost of meals these past few days, I know you are embarrassed."
She sighed deeply, "You really don’t have to do this, I never blamed you for bringing May in."
"Sister Leah, I know." Yolanda Greenwood continued to divide the items, "I can’t eat all this either, so you’re just helping me out."
The two exchanged smiles, each understanding the other’s intentions.
The next day, Yolanda Greenwood waited for quite a while but didn’t see Brooks Parker drop off May, and out of curiosity, she went downstairs to check, only to find that Brooks Parker and May were not at home.
She went upstairs to tell Leah Diaz, "The guy downstairs seems to have taken May out."
"He must have, I saw this morning, a pretty nice car picked both father and daughter up." Leah Diaz said with a laugh, "This way you can do some of your own stuff."
She tilted her head toward Yolanda Greenwood, "What about the guy who used to come by and deliver stuff? You could ask him to go out for a walk."
"That could work." Yolanda Greenwood thought for a bit and sent a message to Adam Sterling.
[Today is the weekend, Dr. Sterling, are you busy? Want to grab a meal together?]
She had not heard from Noah Coldson for a few days, which she found strange. Asking Lola Gold, Lola said Noah might be on a mission.
She planned to probe Adam Sterling about it.
But unexpectedly, Yolanda Greenwood waited until noon without getting a reply from Adam Sterling.
Meanwhile, Melissa Greenwood was with Brooks Parker and May at a burger restaurant.
Brooks Parker got up to use the restroom, leaving Melissa Greenwood and May at the table.
"Are you happy today, May?" Melissa Greenwood asked with a smile.
May nodded, "Thank you, Mommy, for taking me out and buying me this tasty burger."
"Don’t call me Mommy." Melissa Greenwood warned sternly.
May blinked her large eyes, not daring to speak.
Melissa Greenwood took out two palm-sized teddy bears from her bag, "Do you think they’re pretty, May?"
May immediately nodded.
"One of these teddy bears is for you, May, and I want you to give the other one to Aunt Yolanda upstairs, okay?" Melissa Greenwood asked with a charming smile.
