Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Probably Won’t Survive This Winter

Lola Gold was trembling with anger; she hadn’t expected everything to turn out this way.

Sunny Coldson was too terrifying. Lola couldn’t imagine how many times she had been schemed against by her.

The tension between Christopher Coldson and Adam Sterling was palpable, and neither was willing to back down.

"Dr. Sterling," Lola no longer wanted to stay, tugging at Adam’s sleeve, "let’s go."

Adam nodded, "You go first."

At that moment, Yolanda Greenwood and Noah Coldson arrived.

Seeing Lola’s pale face, Yolanda instantly realized something was wrong. She quickly approached, "Lola, what happened?"

"Let’s go home and talk," Lola’s voice was shaking.

"Okay, okay," Yolanda nodded and half-carried Lola outside.

Noah approached and patted Adam on the shoulder, "You take them home first; I’ll handle things here."

Adam also decided to leave.

Christopher was furious to the point of madness and wanted to follow, but Noah held him by the shoulder, immobilizing him in an instant.

Seeing Sunny sitting on the ground, soaking wet, Noah lowered his voice, "Uncle, stop it, let’s take Auntie home first."

It seemed that Christopher finally remembered that Sunny was still drenched.

Gritting his teeth, he said, "Tell that guy Sterling, this isn’t over between us."

Noah frowned. Since Christopher was his elder, he didn’t say much.

The drama finally ended, and on the way home, Lola mentioned how Sunny had framed her but didn’t bring up the incident where Sunny had instigated Ethan Taylor to coerce her.

Even so, Yolanda was quite shocked.

She had never liked Sunny but had never thought she could be as mad as Melissa Greenwood.

"Dr. Sterling," remembering what had just happened, Yolanda thanked Adam, "Thank you for helping Lola today; it was very troublesome of us."

Adam looked indifferent, "Sometimes, understanding the diversity of humanity helps me with my work."

Yolanda and Lola exchanged a smile.

"Today, I indeed saw another side of Dr. Sterling," Lola said with a smile. "Thank you so much."

Adam shook his head, "Let’s just say we both got what we needed."

After Noah returned, he was also very shocked upon hearing the news, especially because he had left home early and always thought of Sunny more as a caring sister.

"However..." he suddenly remembered something, "Cooper and Auntie don’t get along well; he must know something."

The others nodded.

"Big brother, after the prenatal checkup tomorrow, I want to visit the old house," Yolanda mentioned, recalling what Cooper had said that day, "I want to see Grandfather."

"Good, I was thinking the same; Grandfather has been asking about you," Noah agreed.

That night, Yolanda and Lola slept at home, while Noah took Adam to a hotel.

After washing up, the two men drank a bit too much at the bar in the hotel.

"About today, I apologize on my uncle’s behalf," Noah was the first to speak.

"It’s actually a pity there was no fight," Adam chuckled softly, his finger tracing the rim of his glass, "It’s been a few years since I last fought."

Noah shook his head, "If you want to fight, I’m always here."

"My captain," Adam scoffed, "I just wanted to test my strength, not die."

Noah pulled a face but looked at Adam seriously, "What do you think of Lola?"

"Lola?" Adam pondered, "Brave to love and let go, clear-headed, a very charming girl."

"Want to try?" Noah’s voice was filled with anticipation.

"Try? Me and Lola Gold?" Adam looked back into Noah’s eyes.

Under the bar lights, his gaze was as gentle as water beneath his gold-rimmed glasses.

Noah suddenly found it unbearable and looked away first.

But Adam patted him, gesturing to come closer.

Although Noah was somewhat resistant to whispering between men, he was grateful to Adam for his help that day and had drunk some, so he obediently leaned in.

He heard Adam say in a low voice, "Boring."

Noah frowned, "Didn’t you just praise her to the skies, and now she’s boring?"

Adam matter-of-factly responded, "Both are too rational; naturally, it’s boring."

He then looked at Noah, "So, Lola Gold and Yolanda can be friends, and you and I... could be half-friends too."

"What do you mean by that?" Noah protested, "Are you saying that Yolanda and I aren’t rational enough?"

"What do you think?" Adam simply countered.

Noah fell silent.

"Don’t be discouraged, buddy," Adam stood up, patted Noah’s back, "All great love stories in the world have nothing to do with rationality."

He waved his hand and walked out, "I’m tired, goodnight!"

"I’ll go back too," Noah put down his drink and quickly followed Adam.

The next morning, Adam returned to camp first, while Noah and Lola accompanied Yolanda for the prenatal checkup.

Arriving at the Women’s Maternity Hospital, Noah looked back.

"What’s the matter?" Yolanda asked, looking around, but seeing nothing.

"Nothing, probably just my occupational hazard kicking in," Noah smirked, "I always feel like someone is watching."

Lola also looked around but saw nothing.

The three then went inside together.

Meanwhile, Melissa Greenwood quickly received a set of photos showing only Noah and Yolanda with the Women’s Maternity Hospital sign very visible.

She transferred one hundred thousand yuan, satisfied.

It was worth having someone watch the place for over a month to finally get a useful photo.

After several unsuccessful attempts, Melissa had given up the idea of getting rid of the baby. Since this little creature had a tough life, she decided to let it help her out.

Yolanda’s prenatal checkup went well. The baby was a bit smaller than others of the same age, but healthy with no problems detected.

Dr. Hall prescribed some medications for stabilizing the pregnancy and gave various instructions. Although the first trimester was over, they still couldn’t be complacent.

"Thank you, Dr. Hall; it’s New Year’s Day today, and I appreciate you waiting for me here."

After leaving the hospital, Lola left on her own as she wanted to spend the holiday with her mother, while Yolanda and Noah returned to the Coldson family’s old house.

On the car ride, Yolanda couldn’t help but inquire, "Grandfather’s illness..."

Noah sighed deeply, "It’s not looking good, the doctor said... he might not make it through the winter."

He had been afraid to mention it before, given Yolanda’s poor state, but now, he couldn’t keep it from her any longer.

A pang of sadness struck Yolanda’s heart; it seemed she truly would see Grandfather less and less.

She sniffled and turned her gaze out the window.

In this world, there weren’t many who genuinely cared for her – Grandfather Coldson, Gemma Morgan... Gemma was already gone, and if Grandfather were to... her tears uncontrollably began to fall.
