Chapter 172: Chapter 172: She Has Depression and Has Been Taking Medication
When Cooper Coldson showed up at the emergency room, Eliana Reed slapped him across the face.
"How could you do such a thing?" Eliana cried uncontrollably, "How could you leave her at the wedding and run off with that wench Yolanda?"
Cooper took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, "How is she?"
"She swallowed dozens of tranquilizers." Jaxon Greenwood sat to the side, his face full of remorse.
He hadn’t expected things to turn out this way.
He looked at Cooper, "Where’s Yolanda?"
"She went back."
Jaxon stood up, planning to find Yolanda; he needed to clear up Gemma’s affairs.
"Big brother, where are you going?" Eliana stopped him, "Melissa’s life is hanging by a thread, where do you need to go at this time?"
Jaxon frowned, "I’m going to make a call."
"Is she really your daughter or not?" Eliana lunged at him, hitting and berating Jaxon, "If you hadn’t let Yolanda in, how could this have happened? How could Melissa have attempted suicide?"
Jaxon stood still, letting Eliana leave several red marks on his face without moving.
Had he really made a mistake?
Finally, it was Cooper who stopped Eliana, "Enough, Yolanda is your daughter too, how come I never see you caring about her?"
"Is she my daughter?" Eliana scoffed, "Does she admit it? I’ve already disowned her."
Cooper’s brow furrowed deeper, seeing Eliana’s attitude toward Yolanda so clearly made him truly doubt if they were actually mother and daughter.
He’d had his suspicions about this before, but he didn’t care.
Yet at this moment, he stepped aside to send Richard Reyes a message.
"Find a way to get a DNA report for Eliana and Yolanda."
"Cooper, once Melissa wakes up, you must apologize to her immediately and then complete the wedding as soon as possible," Eliana said as she followed him.
"I will not marry her." Cooper put away his phone.
"What?" Eliana and Jaxon were both startled, looking over at him.
"Cooper, as the Patriarch of the Coldson Family, how can you go back on your word?" Eliana began to cry again, "Do you know how much Melissa has sacrificed for you?"
Cooper looked down, waiting for her to continue.
Eliana wiped her tears, "You may have forgotten, you’ve known each other since childhood, back then she was only four years old, you both were kidnapped by human traffickers..."
She cried even harder, seemingly unable to continue.
"You knew about this too?" Cooper was confused, who exactly had saved them back then?
"Back then, it was our Greenwood Family along with your Coldson Family together on the island, I know, and the eldest brother and sister-in-law know too," Eliana looked towards Jaxon, "Big brother, tell me, back then, was it Melissa who saved Cooper and his brother?"
Jaxon hesitated for a moment, not answering immediately.
Images of Melissa’s last words to him flashed through his mind.
"Dad, if Cooper ever asks about what happened on the island, you must tell him I saved him, otherwise, I won’t rest in peace even in death."
"Big brother?" Eliana called out again, "Speak, back then both your family of three and our family of three were on the island, was it Melissa who saved them?"
"Yes." Jaxon could only lie.
Melissa’s life was in danger inside, and it was all caused by Yolanda, but the person who let Yolanda in was him.
As a father, he had to protect his daughter, even if it meant wronging Yolanda.
Cooper was even more confused, "But... but Yolanda just said, back then, it was her who saved them!"
"How is that possible? What does she want to do, kill Melissa?"
Eliana Reed gritted her teeth, "Back then, Melissa suffered a lot because she saved someone, and the doctor even said she would never be able to become a mother."
She clung to Cooper Coldson’s arm, "Do you know that it was then Melissa developed depression, and she has been taking medication ever since."
Cooper took a step back in disbelief. Had Yolanda Greenwood deceived him again? Why?
"What? Did Yolanda claim she saved you to force you back into a relationship with her?" Eliana probed.
Cooper shook his head, which was why he couldn’t understand what Yolanda really wanted.
Eliana was reassured, thankful that her Melissa was smart and had planned ahead.
Tears streaming down her face, she said, "Cooper, please see clearly. Yolanda is already with Noah Coldson; all she’s doing is to seek revenge on Melissa."
She then looked towards Jaxon, "Who knows, she might even do more to get back at Melissa."
She was worried that Yolanda might tell Jaxon that it was Melissa Greenwood who killed Gemma Morgan, so it was better to take precautions anyway.
To take revenge on Melissa Greenwood?
Cooper felt a fiery rage rise in his chest, making his blood boil.
He wished he could confront Yolanda right now.
Just then, the emergency room doors opened, and Melissa Greenwood was wheeled out.
"How is the patient doing?"
Several people approached together.
"She’s out of danger now, fortunately, you got her to the hospital in time," the doctor said, sighing repeatedly, "Don’t stress her out for a while. After she’s better, consider seeing a psychologist."
"Thank you, doctor, thank you," Eliana cried out as she called out to Melissa, "Melissa, how are you feeling?"
Melissa looked ahead with a vacant gaze, as if she had lost perception of everything.
"Melissa, look at dad, look at dad!" Jaxon was equally heartbroken and regretted allowing Yolanda in.
Gemma Morgan was dead, his family was truly ruined.
Finally, Melissa’s eyes moved. She looked at Jaxon mechanically and said, "Dad, go bring Cooper back, go bring Cooper back."
"Silly girl, don’t scare us, your Cooper is right here," Eliana nudged Cooper.
Cooper bent down, "Melissa."
It was only then that Melissa seemed to notice Cooper, grabbing his hand excitedly, "Cooper, don’t leave me, please don’t leave me?"
As she spoke, she cried, "Did I do something wrong? Tell me, I’ll definitely change."
"It’s okay, you’ve done nothing wrong, nothing wrong," Cooper sighed heavily, "Maybe, it’s my fault."
Regardless, he still wanted to confirm things with Noah Coldson at the end.
"Cooper, do you regret it? Don’t you want to marry me anymore?"
Cooper was silent for a moment before he slowly spoke, "Melissa, you need to recover first, we can talk about our marriage after you’re better..."
"Cooper, please don’t leave me, okay?" Inside the hospital room, Melissa still clung to Cooper, "I only have you now."
"Melissa, don’t be sad, Cooper won’t leave, I’ll stay right here," Eliana quickly answered for Cooper.
Melissa looked at Cooper full of hope.
Cooper finally nodded, "Try to get some sleep, I’ll stay here tonight."
"I won’t sleep, I’m afraid you’ll disappear if I do."
Melissa continued to hold tightly onto Cooper’s hand, refusing to let him go.
