Chapter 136 What Is Your Relationship with My Daughter

Chapter 136: Chapter 136 What Is Your Relationship with My Daughter

Ruby Ross struggled to her feet, "Mom? Brother? What have you ever given me over all these years?"

"When I was nearly dying in the hospital, where were you?"

"Other than asking me for money, what else have you done?"

"What did you eat and wear when you were a child?" the old lady retorted with indignation. "Without me, where would this ’good-for-nothing’ be?"

"Heh..." Ruby Ross let out a bitter laugh, "If I could choose, I actually wish you had never given birth to me."

"Since I can remember, hasn’t every day been about repaying debts?" Her eyes fiery red as she looked at the old lady, "Enough is enough. You’ve been repaid long ago. For you to speak that way about my daughter today—I am not you, and I will never become you!"

"Lola is my treasure, the hope that keeps me going. Dare to speak of her this way, even if you are my mother, I will not forgive you."

Ruby Ross pointed towards the door, "Get out! Even if George Ross dies in jail, he deserves it, and so do you."

Her sobs were bloodcurdling, as though gasping with her last breath, "You raised a ’wonderful’ son."

"Ah ah ah..." The old lady wreaked havoc as if she had gone mad.

Ruby Ross looked towards Noah Coldson, "Go find the hospital security, and have them escort this old lady out—we don’t know her."

Noah Coldson helped Ruby Ross to sit down, and with one hand, he started dragging the old lady outside.

"Ah, help, murder..." The old lady continued to feign madness.

"You die, and I’ll compensate with my life," Noah Coldson said coldly as he tossed her out into the corridor and went to have the nurses call security.

The old lady immediately laid down and started moaning feignly ill.

But Noah Coldson wasn’t buying it, "No problem, if you like, just stay in the hospital, for a year, a lifetime, until you die. I don’t care."

The old lady eyed Noah Coldson warily as she quickly concluded that he had enough money not to fear her extortion.

But she couldn’t just lie around in the hospital; she needed to figure out a way to save her son.

So, she swiftly got up and left without looking back.

Noah Coldson returned to the ward, where the atmosphere was incredibly tense.

"Big brother," Yolanda Greenwood spoke softly, "Aunt Ross seems unwell, you should take her for a check-up."

"I’m fine." Ruby Ross forced a smile, her eyes red as she looked at Lola Gold and Yolanda Greenwood, "I’m sorry you had to suffer."

Yolanda Greenwood signaled Noah Coldson with her eyes, "Take Aunt Ross out."

"Okay." Noah Coldson lifted Ruby Ross and began to walk her out of the ward.

When they reached the doorway, Ruby Ross suddenly stopped and turned back to look at a pale-faced Lola Gold at the bedside, "Lola, don’t take your grandmother’s words to heart, you’ll always be Mommy’s little princess."

Lola Gold held back her tears as she watched Ruby Ross leave, and the moment the ward door closed, she collapsed onto the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Lola..." Yolanda Greenwood knew how much the old lady’s words, and Ruby Ross’s defense had hurt Lola Gold, "Lola, don’t be upset."

"Yolanda," Lola Gold lifted her head, "if my mom found out about me and Christopher Coldson..."

She couldn’t imagine the disappointment Ruby Ross would feel.

"Lola, you did it to pay for Aunt Ross’s treatment, even if she finds out..."

"No!" Lola Gold shook her head fiercely, "My mom is proud and strong. She would rather die than know where that money came from."

Yolanda Greenwood couldn’t help but cry; she had heard from Lola Gold that when Ruby Ross was young, she was also tempted by money, but she never succumbed.

In fact, Ruby Ross had truly lived out the saying that the reed is tough as silk. She might have been a delicate woman from the water towns, without a family or relatives to rely on, but she was never broken, and with her tenderness and strength, she protected Lola Gold.

However, both hadn’t expected that Christopher Coldson would show up that afternoon.

Lola Gold’s hard-won calm erupted once more; without a word, she dragged him out of the ward to the corner of the corridor.

"What are you doing?" She suppressed her rage, her voice trembling.

Christopher Coldson touched his nose, "I heard you had...an encounter in Ully Town."

"It’s none of your business," Lola Gold stepped closer, looking coldly at Christopher Coldson, "Christopher Coldson, let me tell you, I don’t have anything to do with you anymore. Please don’t appear before me again. Just leave!"

Christopher Coldson frowned, "What’s wrong? Are you angry?"

Lola Gold almost laughed in fury, "Angry? Why? What kind of relationship do we have? What right do I have to be angry?"

"Lola," Christopher Coldson’s face darkened, "stop being temperamental with me, you know I have little patience."

To Lola Gold’s mind flashed the Christopher Coldson she saw on Sunny Coldson’s phone that day; indeed, in her memory, Christopher Coldson was very domineering. Kneel before someone? If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she would never have believed it.

Thinking about it now seemed ludicrous. It turns out not that someone doesn’t have patience, not that they can’t coax others, it’s just that you’re not worth it.

"Christopher Coldson, do you think I’m too easy to bully?" Lola Gold laughed bitterly, tears streaming down her face.

How many people dared to bully her from childhood?

Deep down, she was just like Ruby Ross, yet sharpened by her mother, because she had too many people to protect.

The actions of her loathsome father taught her from a young age that life is unpredictable, and only by being strong can one avoid being hurt.

Looking through her tears at Christopher Coldson, she said, "Just go. I don’t want any ugliness. I’m no longer your lover, and I have no reason to put up with you anymore."

"Lola," Christopher Coldson reached out to grab Lola Gold’s arm, "behave yourself, I haven’t come to find you these past days because..."

His gaze suddenly shifted past Lola Gold, "Aunt, we’re talking, could you please step back."

In an instant, Lola Gold broke out in a cold sweat, and she stiffly turned her head to see Ruby Ross leaning against the wall, standing there.

She didn’t know how long her mother had been there, nor what she had heard.

Lola Gold violently shook off Christopher Coldson’s hand, her voice trembling, "Mom..."

"Shut your mouth!" Ruby Ross scolded sharply, then with her eyes reddened, looked toward Christopher Coldson, "What is your relationship with my daughter?"

"Mom..." Lola Gold struggled to keep from crying.

She turned back pleadingly to Christopher Coldson, "Just go, I’m begging you, please go."

Christopher Coldson furrowed his brows and looked at Ruby Ross to explain, "Aunt, don’t misunderstand, Lola and I are just friends."

He looked at Lola Gold, "Then I’ll go now, and I’ll come to see you when I have time."

"Stay right there!" Surprisingly, Ruby Ross stopped Christopher Coldson.

"Mom..." Lola Gold was terrified, unsure of what Ruby Ross intended to do, "Mom, he and I really are just friends, you..."

Ruby Ross approached with difficulty and suddenly raised her hand, delivering a slap across the face.
