Entangled with My Cousin's Fiancé -
Chapter 137: He Looks Down on You in His Heart
Chapter 137: Chapter 137: He Looks Down on You in His Heart
Lola Gold and Christopher Coldson were both stunned.
Lola, supporting Ruby Ross, looked towards Christopher instinctively. As far as she knew, Christopher had never been hit in his life, let alone slapped.
Christopher, holding his face, was clearly shocked and stared incredulously at the woman in front of him.
Ruby Ross was somewhat emotional, "Just because you are rich, you think you are incredible? Do you think you can toy with her?"
She clutched Lola’s hand tightly, "You look down on her, but she is my precious one, the flesh of my heart."
"I don’t look down on her," Christopher glanced at Lola, then lowered his head, "I..."
"Didn’t you hear what my daughter just said?" Ruby interrupted him, "Leave, and don’t ever appear in front of my daughter again, otherwise, I’ll hit you every time I see you."
She shielded Lola behind her. "I would stake my life to protect her."
Christopher sighed deeply, looked at Lola, "Alright, as long as you’re fine, I’ll leave now."
He bowed deeply to Ruby, "I’m sorry for causing you distress."
Lola, supporting Ruby, watched as Christopher left.
Once he was gone, Ruby’s legs gave way, and she leaned weakly against Lola.
"Mom, are you alright?"
Ruby shook her head; confronting Christopher had taken all her courage.
Lola cried and apologized, "Mom, I’m sorry, I let you down."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Her own daughter, how could she not understand?
Ruby looked lovingly at Lola, "It’s me who has dragged you down."
"Mom, don’t say that," Lola gently hugged Ruby.
Ruby asked softly, "Is that the man you fancy?"
She knew her daughter; if it was just for money, her reaction earlier wouldn’t have been like that.
And that man, with an impressive lineage and good looks, anyone could easily fall for him.
"Mom," Lola immediately denied, "No, I towards him..."
Ruby gave Lola a sharp look, "Mom doesn’t know you? But... this man probably won’t let you be at peace, he might financially support you, but even if he cares, he’ll scorn you in his heart."
Lola thought she was clear-headed, but didn’t expect Ruby to see through it even more.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t realized all this from the beginning, which had allowed her to fall deeper.
"Mom, don’t worry, I’ll protect myself," Lola asked cautiously, "Mom, are you very disappointed in me?"
"You silly girl," as they walked back together, Ruby’s voice was filled with remorse, "I’m disappointed, but it’s with myself."
If it weren’t for her lack of capabilities in the past, Lola wouldn’t have suffered so much under her dad.
If it weren’t for her illness, Lola wouldn’t have accepted money from a man.
All this, only disappointed herself.
"Mom, don’t say that, you don’t know how important you are to me," Lola playfully leaned on Ruby’s shoulder, "Let’s not talk like this anymore, we are each other’s pride."
"Right, you have always been my pride."
"Mom is my pride too."
Lola and Ruby returned to the ward together; Noah Coldson was also there.
Yolanda Greenwood, worried, looked over and saw Lola curve a smile at her, finally letting herself sigh in relief.
"Aunt Ross, Lola," Yolanda Greenwood had just spoken to Noah Coldson, "I want to go back to Gray City."
Noah was definitely going to follow her; she didn’t want to cause him to separate from his family again because of her.
She and Noah had agreed that once she successfully gave birth, Noah would leave.
Lola Gold and Ruby Ross were not surprised.
They definitely couldn’t stay any longer in Ully Town, it was better to return; Ruby Ross’s health was not good, she still needed to live in a big city.
"Okay, we’ll go back with you," Lola quickly said.
"That’s better, having each other’s company is also good support," Ruby Ross nodded in agreement.
Thus, the group of them discussed it, and though Yolanda couldn’t be discharged yet, she needed to be hospitalized for a few more days before she could leave.
Noah Coldson rented two rooms next to the hospital, one for himself and one for Lola Gold and Ruby Ross; they took turns staying with Yolanda in the hospital.
Lola Gold always brought some news, such as the development project in Ully Town collapsing, the Coldson Group withdrawing its investment; or that George Ross died, rumored to be a sudden illness at the hospital...
"Your grandmother..." Yolanda asked worriedly.
"Do you still care about her?" Lola shook her head, "These days, she’s been causing a storm in Ully Town, anyway, the government will handle it, it doesn’t concern us."
"What about your mom..."
"My mom doesn’t want to deal with her anymore. Don’t worry."
Yolanda nodded her head.
They originally had come to Ully Town filled with dreams for the future, but had not expected such an outcome.
With two days left until her discharge, that evening after Lola had returned, Yolanda received a text message.
Even though the number was unfamiliar, she knew it had to be from Melissa Greenwood.
The text didn’t contain much text, only a photo of her pale yellow nightgown that she’d left in the old house, carelessly tossed in a trash bin.
Even knowing Melissa would eventually move in, seeing the photo, imagining Cooper Coldson and Melissa sleeping in the same bed where they once had, her heart was agonizingly wrenched.
She knew that Cooper and Melissa would marry, would have children, would live the life she always longed for; just thinking about this made her breathlessly painful.
She deleted the photo, forcing herself to sleep early.
In the dead of night, groggily, she seemed to see Cooper sitting at the edge of the bed; she quickly realized she was dreaming, her heart bitterly reached its limit, yet she also did not want to wake up.
In the Coldson Family’s old house, after Melissa took the photo, she took the nightgown out and stomped on it a few times before throwing it away.
That day Cooper wasn’t present, Isabella Ross had let her into the room; seeing Yolanda’s nightgown, she was infuriated with jealousy.
She was preparing to lie down after cleaning the room when she heard a knock on the door.
It was Sunny Coldson.
"Little aunt, how come you’re still not asleep?"
That day, the engagement between Sunny and Christopher Coldson had been canceled; now, calling her "little aunt" was still a way to spite Sunny.
Her woman’s intuition told her that Sunny was no good.
"Yes," Sunny hooked her lip, and entered the room nonchalantly, "Do you know where Cooper went?"
Melissa hesitated, "He might be on a business trip, I really don’t know the specifics, I usually don’t concern myself with these matters."
"Heh heh..." Sunny laughed mockingly, looking at Melissa as if she were an idiot.
Melissa frowned, "It seems you came prepared. Stop beating around the bush, has Cooper gone to see Yolanda?"
"Ully Town!" Sunny gritted her teeth; she knew that a few days ago, Christopher also went to Ully Town!
