Chapter 114: Dislike the Chaos in the Coldson Family Any Longer
Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Dislike the Chaos in the Coldson Family Any Longer
Yolanda Greenwood busied herself at home all day. By the time she finished, it was already dark, and Lola Gold still hadn’t returned.
Today was Christopher Coldson’s engagement day, and she was worried about Lola, so she made a call. But after a long time, no one answered.
Her worry deepened.
After thinking for a bit, she decided to call Noah Coldson, who quickly picked up.
Yolanda could hear the noisy background on the other end and guessed Noah was at the engagement scene. She felt a wave of bitterness wash over her.
"Yolanda?" Noah had moved to the balcony. "What’s up?"
"Nothing." Yolanda felt somewhat embarrassed. How would Noah know where Lola was? It’s just that now, after encountering issues, she seemed to have developed a habit of contacting him first.
She needed to break this habit. After all, since she and Cooper Coldson divorced, she had no relationship with Noah.
"It’s nothing, I just dialed by accident." She lied.
Noah frowned, dialed by accident?
He had a feeling something was off. "It’s good that there’s no issue. Are you and Lola at home?"
"I’m home alone." Yolanda didn’t want to waste his time any longer. "Really, it’s nothing, big brother, go back to the engagement party."
"What engagement party!" Noah’s tone carried a hint of helplessness.
"Huh?" Yolanda, about to hang up, brought the phone back to her ear. "Isn’t today the engagement party for Christopher and Sunny Coldson?"
"It’s canceled!"
Yolanda’s eyes widened in shock. "Why?"
"We can’t find your uncle." Noah sounded helpless. "The guy has disappeared and his phone is unreachable."
He heard a noise behind him and turned to find Cooper.
The two had each thrown a punch at the other in the hospital; this was their first interaction alone since then.
"Yolanda’s call?" Cooper spoke first; his tone was questioning, but he was nearly sure of the answer.
Noah nodded.
"Give it to me!" Cooper extended his hand.
Hesitating, Noah eventually told Yolanda, "Yolanda, Cooper’s going to take the call now. He has something to say to you."
"Oh, okay." Yolanda was somewhat puzzled.
Taking the phone, Cooper didn’t speak, his gaze fixed on Noah, clearly wanting privacy.
Noah shook his head and left.
"Where’s Lola?" Cooper was straightforward and his tone was bad.
"She’s out." Yolanda replied reluctantly.
"Humph!" Cooper scorned, "She must have called uncle out, right?"
Yolanda didn’t respond. Could that be?
Cooper continued, "Yolanda, is your friend so fond of my uncle? Or is it his money she likes?"
"Cooper Coldson!" Yolanda’s anger flared. "Even if Lola did seek out Christopher, he chose to follow. Did anyone force him?"
The more she thought about it, the less likely it seemed. Even if Lola was smitten with Christopher, she couldn’t be a person without limits, degrading herself.
"Besides, who sought whom is still uncertain." Yolanda added, "Or perhaps, your shameless uncle has taken a new target and is up to new tricks now."
"Ha," Cooper seemed confident, "Whether uncle’s with Lola Gold or not, you’ll soon find out."
He hung up abruptly, still angry.
As he hung up, he noticed something: Noah had saved Yolanda’s contact as "Yolanda."
He remembered clearly that Noah’s phone contacts were uniformly listed as Grandpa, Mom, Uncle, Brother... and for others, either Colleague 1, Colleague 2, or their full names.
Nicknames like "Yolanda" were new.
He handed the phone back to Noah. "This person can be deleted. No need for such affectionate notes."
"Why did you hang up?" Noah, not concerned with these words, called Yolanda back from the balcony.
Watching Noah’s retreating back, Cooper felt an inexplicable irritation.
Melissa Greenwood approached, "How’s it going, Cooper? Did you get in touch with uncle?"
Cooper humphed dismissively, "Probably messed up with Lola Gold again."
"Really? Why?" Melissa speculated, "Hasn’t uncle always treated Lola as a substitute? Perhaps Lola is clinging to uncle?"
She reasoned that if Sunny knew this, Lola wouldn’t have easy days ahead.
"She might be carrying uncle’s child." Even Cooper couldn’t fathom Christopher’s intentions.
"What?" Melissa was utterly shocked.
"Don’t mention this in front of your aunt." Cooper warned. He didn’t want the Coldson family to descend further into chaos.
"Don’t worry, I’m not close with the aunt, I won’t gossip." Melissa assured immediately, knowing well there would be a spectacle to watch.
Back on the balcony, Noah got through to Yolanda, "Yolanda, was there something you needed to say? The engagement party is almost over, so if you need help with anything, now’s the time."
"It’s nothing." Yolanda offered a wry laugh. "Actually, I just wanted you to help me look for Lola; I can’t reach her."
She asked cautiously, "Big brother, do you think Lola could be with Christopher now?"
"I can’t say." Noah found it strange. "Did Lola change her mind?"
Yolanda relayed her encounter with Cooper at the prenatal check-up that day.
"Don’t worry, I’ll help you get in touch. I’ll let you know immediately if there’s any news." Noah reassured her in the end. "Lola is sensible; there’s no need to worry."
After hanging up, Noah tried to reach Lola again, to no avail.
Meanwhile, in a suite at the Empire Grand Hotel, Lola Gold was wrapped in Christopher’s embrace, trembling with abandon.
The ring of her phone partially pulled her back to reality.
The man continued as if trying to reclaim everything from the previous days.
"You..." Lola spoke weakly, "...are you ever going to stop? The phone, I need to answer the phone."
Christopher thrusted vigorously a few more times, his voice wickedly teasing in her ear, "I didn’t realize you got so many calls before. Is it a new lover?"
Lola bit her lip, preventing herself from making shameful noises, squeezing her words through clenched teeth.
"Christopher... won’t you... go... to your... engagement?"
"Do you want me to go?" His sharp chin glistened with droplets of sweat.
Lola did not reply. What did her wishes matter? What could a substitute like her decide?
"Answer me!" Christopher persisted.
Lola bit her lip, her mind foggy, yet still refusing to allow those two words past her lips.
When everything finally ended, it was the early morning and Lola had completely fallen into a deep sleep.
Christopher cleaned her up, placed her back in bed, then dressed himself and took one last look at her before leaving.
As he opened the door, his eyes widened in surprise at the sight of someone at the end of the corridor.
