Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Her Life Really Is a Lonely Island
"Huh? No, you’ve got it wrong; he’s not my boyfriend," Yolanda Greenwood hurried to explain.
"I’m her brother," Noah Coldson tugged at the corner of his mouth, "Alright, let’s just order these."
"Sorry about the misunderstanding, but this is even more enviable. Boyfriends might break up, but brothers are for life," the waiter said with a smile before walking away.
The two exchanged a glance and simultaneously shifted their gaze away with a smile.
The dishes were served quickly—the friend of Noah’s was reliable, and the food at this restaurant indeed tasted good.
Yolanda noted that Noah had ordered dishes that did not contain beef; the man was truly attentive to the finest detail.
Her mood brightened a bit, and she ate quite a lot, "Big brother, you’re really splurging on me."
"As long as you like it," Noah stood up, "Wait for me, I’m going to ask the waiter to pack up the leftovers."
"Okay," Yolanda waited patiently.
After a while, the same waiter came back and looked at Yolanda in disbelief, "Miss, your brother’s actions are a bit over the top."
"What happened?" Yolanda was perplexed, as Noah had indeed been gone for a while, and still wasn’t back.
The waiter shook her head and clicked her tongue twice, "Your brother’s negotiating with our boss, trying to poach our chef to cook for you at home."
What?
Yolanda was so shocked she stood up immediately and hurried out to see what was going on.
The moment she stepped out, she saw Noah coming back.
"Big brother..." Yolanda felt a bit embarrassed, "You’re really trying to poach their chef?"
"Is that not okay?" Noah looked at her with indulgence, "Don’t worry; I just asked him to come over to your place two or three times a week to improve your meals."
"Big brother, it’s really not necessary," Yolanda felt somewhat ashamed, "Lola Gold and I can cook a bit, and ordering takeout is also an option..."
Noah interrupted her, "Yolanda, remember that everything I am doing now is what Cooper should be doing. I am just temporarily filling in for him, so there’s no need to feel embarrassed."
"But you’re you, and he’s him," Yolanda looked down, "You’re doing these things for him, and he doesn’t know about it, does he? Even if he did, he wouldn’t agree."
Noah was silent for a moment before speaking, "Think of it as repaying a debt I owe him, in a different way."
Yolanda looked up but saw that Noah had already turned back to the private room.
They silently packed up their things, returned to the car, and Noah’s mood seemed to have dropped.
"Brother, I’ve heard about some of the things that happened when you guys were kids from Grandpa," Yolanda said, looking to gauge Noah’s reaction before continuing.
"Clearly, something must have happened in the year you turned six, no matter what it was, I think every person should have the chance to choose their own life."
When she first heard the story, Yolanda indeed felt sorrier for Cooper, but after interacting more with Noah, she didn’t think he was the selfish, willful sort who didn’t care about others.
She could imagine the significant impact that year’s events must have had on Noah.
"You can choose not to be the Patriarch of the Coldson Family, and so can Cooper," Yolanda turned to look seriously at Noah, "So we all have our choices, and nobody owes anybody anything, just like, I don’t feel like Cooper owes me anything."
Noah’s emotions seemed stirred, and he actually pulled over to the side of the road.
He appeared to be holding back, the veins on his hands gripping the steering wheel were bulging, and he bowed his head in silence.
Yolanda discreetly gave him some time without saying more.
"Yolanda," it took a long while before Noah finally spoke, turning his head to look at her, "You’re very right, but you don’t understand the feeling of regret, it really can completely change a person."
At that moment, Noah was staring at Yolanda without blinking, his eyes filled with endless regret and apology, as if... he was seeing another person through Yolanda.
Someone he could never make amends to.
Yolanda even noticed that Noah’s eyes were red.
Can regret really change a person?
Yolanda couldn’t help but daydream—if one day Cooper felt remorse, what would he become?
The car soon started again, and Noah drove Yolanda to her apartment building.
"I’ll find a suitable housekeeper in the next few days; you are not allowed to order takeout anymore."
"Big brother!" Yolanda truly felt a helpless sense of defeat.
"Alright, go on up, I’m heading back," Noah didn’t give Yolanda time to dwell on the issue any further.
"Okay, drive safely, big brother."
Yolanda went upstairs, and Lola Gold wasn’t at home, which made her feel a little uneasy.
She sent Lola a message, then connected with Sophie Taylor and the others from Baruy for a meeting—she had been away from the company a lot recently, but there was still work that required her attention.
After everything was finished, it was already five in the afternoon, and Yolanda went to sleep for a while.
Lola Gold didn’t return until after nine at night.
Yolanda remembered today was her live-streaming day, "Why did you come back so late?"
"Yeah, something held me up," Lola seemed in a rush, "I won’t talk now; I’m going to live-stream in my room."
"Have you had dinner?" Yolanda asked, "Want to eat together?"
"You eat; don’t wait for me in the future," the bedroom door closed.
Yolanda frowned.
She had eaten quite a lot at noon and was just starting to feel hungry, so she simply boiled a bowl of noodles and added two eggs on purpose.
While eating, she said to the babies in her belly, "Be good, tonight Mommy is having two eggs, one for each of you, no fighting."
Although the children were still small and didn’t respond to her words, Yolanda always felt very happy, as if there were finally people closely related and intimately connected to her in the world.
She had never experienced kinship from Third Greenwood and Eliana Reed since she was young, had no particularly good friends before she met Lola, and had been even less successful in love.
Sometimes, Yolanda even thought her name suited her life perfectly—her life really was like an island, a solitary island.
But now things were different, her little island had two lives on it, and she was grateful for their arrival.
After dinner, Yolanda was somewhat bored, and on a whim, she opened Lola Gold’s live stream.
She had watched Lola’s live streams before.
Lola Gold always wore various exaggerated masks, making herself look very mysterious; she would start by ranting about the weirdos she encountered in her life to release frustration and to spark enthusiasm in the live stream.
Yolanda remembered that initially, Lola would receive private messages witnessing the bizarre experiences of her viewers, and then she would select a few to vent their frustrations on live stream.
Later, as Lola became more popular, she began trying paid connections.
Most of those wanting to connect had also encountered some kind of extreme personalities in life but were too meek themselves, so Lola would listen to their stories and verbally lay into those people.
Honestly, watching this kind of live stream felt quite satisfying.
But the moment Yolanda entered the live stream that day, she was instantly shocked and widened her eyes.
