Chapter 107: Chapter 107: What’s with the Sentiment in the Middle of the Night
Yolanda Greenwood was surprised to discover Lola Gold wasn’t wearing a mask.
She was quite taken aback, not knowing when this had started, was it after meeting Christopher Coldson? Or after they had split?
She watched for a while and noticed the live-streaming room was bustling, the viewership numbers having multiplied several times over.
Yolanda also noticed that many people in the live chat were calling Lola Gold "wife," and she was giggling and responding playfully.
Moreover, after connecting, Lola Gold was no longer ranting about jerks, but it seemed like she was flirting with someone on the other side.
Yolanda quickly exited the live-stream, heavy-hearted as she waited for Lola Gold to come out.
Actually, when in school, many had praised Lola Gold for her beauty, saying she had that kind of radiant appearance, a natural beauty who looked even prettier without makeup, a goddess of pure looks. But due to her biting tongue and always being sharply aware, she remained single.
In school, Lola Gold had a crush on Wesley Baker, or maybe it wasn’t a crush, but simply an affinity. However, the two didn’t have any substantial interactions.
Then later came Christopher Coldson.
Yolanda knew that since the incident, Lola Gold looked as if she was all right, but she must have been deeply hurt.
She was really getting more and more worried about her.
About an hour later, around eleven o’clock, Lola Gold finally came out of the room.
"Yolanda?" Seeing Yolanda in the living room, she looked very annoyed, "You little rascal, not being good at all. Look what time it is, go to sleep already."
Yolanda stood up, her face full of concern, and went over to hug Lola Gold.
"What’s this all about? Getting all affectionate in the middle of the night?" Lola Gold said this, but she didn’t push Yolanda away, instead, she asked worriedly, "Was there a problem with the prenatal checkup today?"
"No, it went very smoothly." Yolanda forced her tears back.
She let go of Lola Gold, "I’m fine, really. I just didn’t see you all day and missed you."
She decided not to ask further, trusting that Lola Gold had her own thoughts. Perhaps changing the way she live-streamed was Lola Gold’s way of dealing with her melancholy.
Although they were good friends, there were some things they shouldn’t interfere too much with each other on.
"Tch!" Lola Gold gave Yolanda a light push on the forehead, "Go sleep!"
"Good night, you too should go to bed early." Yolanda forced a smile and went back to her room.
Lola Gold watched her close the door, the smile on her face disappeared instantly.
She guessed it, Yolanda must have seen her live-stream just now.
She sighed, sat on the sofa for a good while in silence before finally going to wash up and sleep.
The following days were calm, and Yolanda went to the company to work overtime whenever she had time. Called by name by the CEO for a few big projects, she gradually made a name for herself in the industry.
Jenny Reyes sent her a message, congratulating her on finally tasting the sweet after the bitter.
Just after work one day, Noah Coldson called.
"Do you have time tomorrow?"
"Yes, I do." Tomorrow was Saturday, and Yolanda had planned to take a day off, "Do you need anything, big brother?"
"Yes. Tomorrow, come with me to the orphanage." Noah’s voice softened.
"Orphanage?" Yolanda was filled with curiosity.
She hadn’t expected, Noah had been donating to an orphanage since he was eighteen, and this time, after his return, the director invited him to celebrate the kids’ birthdays.
"Sure, I’ll definitely come." Yolanda readily agreed.
She already loved children, and being pregnant, she was even more eager to be around them.
After telling Lola Gold about it, she barely resisted giving a thumbs up, "Yolanda, if you had met Noah earlier, there probably wouldn’t have been anything with Cooper Coldson."
She couldn’t praise Noah enough, "He was so clear-headed at six, found his life’s calling, and resolutely gave up the right to inherit a trillion-dollar fortune. He’s really... my idol."
"Indeed, big brother Noah is really quite impressive." Yolanda was also surprised.
The next day, Noah came to pick her up. As soon as Yolanda got into the passenger seat, she saw Cooper Coldson surprisingly seated in the back.
"Cooper happened to be free today and wanted to join us," Noah explained.
Yolanda sat down awkwardly, sure by now that this was big brother’s arrangement.
Cooper suddenly spoke from the back seat, "The rent for these houses isn’t cheap."
It was obvious, he was surprised Yolanda had moved here, believing she was renting and that she couldn’t afford the rent.
Yolanda glanced subconsciously at Noah, saw him shake his head slightly.
She had to lie, "I’ve gone back to work. And splitting the rent with Lola isn’t so bad."
Cooper snorted disdainfully and looked out the window.
Yolanda, feeling annoyed, thought this guy was really obnoxious.
Along the way, Noah chatted with Yolanda sporadically, subtly inquiring about how she and the kids were getting along recently.
"I heard you’ve hired a housekeeper to cook; how’s that going? Getting used to it?"
"How’s the neighborhood environment, is it noisy, safe?"
"Is your work tiring? Make sure to rest enough."
...
Cooper finally lost patience in the back, speaking coldly, "Brother, Yolanda is not a child. Don’t act like she can’t take care of herself."
"You little brat!" Noah glared at Cooper through the rearview mirror, "That’s your wife; if you don’t care for her, doesn’t mean others can’t."
The tone clearly had a hint of friction.
Cooper immediately retorted, "We’re about to get a divorce."
"As long as you’re not divorced, you have to fulfill your duty as a husband."
"Has she fulfilled her duty as a wife?"
"What do you want her to do?"
The conversation came to an abrupt halt. Yolanda, feeling awkward, wished she could jump out of the car, "Alright, big brother, we’re fine as we are now."
"What’s fine?" Noah seemed a bit angry, "You two need to ask yourselves honestly, do you really want to separate and have nothing to do with each other forever?"
That was like a needle, pricking straight at Yolanda’s heart.
Her divorce with Cooper had been dragging on, and she had gotten used to this numb way of life.
But she also clearly knew that one day they would get divorced and become strangers in each other’s lives.
This city was neither large nor small, but since she moved out of the mansion, she had almost never bumped into Cooper unexpectedly.
It made sense, they were from different classes, how could they appear at the same events?
Yolanda sighed softly and glanced at Cooper through the rearview mirror.
Cooper was looking out the window, showing only half of his face.
With his prominent nose and thin lips, his profile was sharp and ruthless.
They soon arrived at the orphanage. All three got out of the car, opened the trunk, and Yolanda realized they had bought a lot of stuff, food and toys alike.
Noah carried some of it, and called Cooper to take the rest.
Clearly, they couldn’t carry it all in one trip.
Cooper’s gaze fell coldly on Yolanda, "What, you’re going in empty-handed?"
