Chapter 655: Space Pirates; Primitive Universe Style
--
Seeing humans as the first creatures he saw as soon as he took his first steps out of the death zone didn’t make Cedric too happy.
Not that he dislikes humans of the Primitive Universe, it’s because of the kind of people he met. Though, seeing them did confirm everything he had learned so far. The tales and myths he knew about the Primitive Universe were indeed true; it wasn’t an illusion or an elaborate plot. It’s the real deal.
"Hey, don’t be so cold now, brother. Can’t you see that I’m talking to you? Isn’t it common decency to respond at least?" The man with the crooked grin frowned in displeasure. The men flanking him looked offended too.
Cedric sighed and muttered to himself, "Ah, just as I thought that this place was beautiful, some people just had to ruin it."
"What did you say!?" The rogue raised his voice, his spittle flying out from his mouth. He raised his machete, and it glowed with a fierce sanguine gleam.
The men behind him also drew their weapons, determined to follow the lead of this man.
"Whatever." Cedric shrugged plainly. He then faced the armed men and said, "It just so happens that I am indeed lost, and I need directions."
"Oh!? So now, you want to ask something! Hah! Sure, but let me warn you, it’s going to cost you dearly." The crooked grin on the man’s face turned wider.
"Really?" A sneer formed on Cedric’s lips. "I’ll be the judge of that."
And with a snap of his fingers, the three men in front of him suddenly went slack. Their eyes turned dull, and their raised weapons fell, their energies fizzling to nothingness.
"Come here," Cedric ordered them with a flat look on his face, and the men obeyed like puppets.
Illusions. Cedric doesn’t use them very often, but it doesn’t mean he’s not capable of doing it. These men weren’t strong to begin with, and they had no idea who they were messing with, so playing them like a fiddle was quite literally effortless for Cedric.
"You all are Space Pirates, right?" He asked the befuddled men.
It’s the leader who replied with, "Yes. We are the Sanguine Flood Pirates."
Cedric nodded to himself. His guess was indeed accurate; these men were space pirates, and of all the kinds of people he could meet at his very first steps out of the death zone, it just had to be this group of people.
It wasn’t that hard to guess, actually. With how large the human population here was, there’s bound to be a bunch of bad and lawless people appearing; it’s to be expected. Besides, they’re the ones who approached him with ill intent, and they weren’t even bothering to hide it.
"How many of you are there, and what level is the strongest amongst you?"
"There are more than a thousand of us in this group. The strongest is me at the peak of Grand Solar level," the rogue-looking man replied dully.
Cedric was relieved. At least he didn’t accidentally poke a hornet’s nest this time. But even if he did, he had many ways to escape or divert trouble, so he wasn’t all that worried.
"Where’s the nearest civilization here? What is it called, and what were your goals by coming here?"
"The nearest civilization is called Fallen Heaven Realm; it’s led by a Cosmic Warrior and is under the jurisdiction of the Dark Star Sector. The reason why we lurk in this place is because we heard that there was a treasure here somewhere. We heard rumors of colorful lights and fragrant smells appearing around this area. We came to claim that treasure, hoping that it could help me take the final step to reach the Cosmic Realm in life evolution."
"Fallen Heaven Realm, Dark Star Sector...I was sent that far, huh?" Cedric muttered to himself.
The Death Zone was indeed somewhere within the Dark Star Domain, but it was isolated. Cedric already suspected that he was sent quite far from that place because he couldn’t see traces of the Death Zone anywhere, but he didn’t expect to be sent so far away.
This Fallen Heaven Realm...he had seen it on a map before; he also learned of it through Cade’s memories. This realm was at least three cosmos away from where the death zone should be.
As for the treasure this fellow was talking about, Cedric couldn’t care less. Even if what they heard was true, it won’t provide any help to him, so why bother competing?
"Call your men here and take me to your ship. Don’t act suspicious."
The pirate captain nodded after receiving the order. He took out a badge from his pocket and pressed it tightly to call for his men.
Moments later, the space nearby shuddered. Then, out of nowhere, a large spaceship appeared from a spatial tear.
The ship looked shabby, like it’s made from scraps that shouldn’t even be functioning, yet somehow, it does. There’s a pirate flag on top of the ship. The flag was bloody red with a painted skull at the center; beneath the skull were two machetes crossed.
"Go and lead the way," Cedric ordered.
The three men obeyed and led him to the pirate ship. Their brothers and sisters greeted them politely as they appeared; none were aware of Cedric trailing behind them because he had hidden himself perfectly. Unless he wants them to see him, they won’t, and probably never will.
At the very least, the interior of the ship wasn’t too bad. It doesn’t stink like he expected it to. It also doesn’t have too many problems, all things considered. It’s a barely habitable place.
What made it worse were the people inhabiting it.
Cedric knew that there are many shades of evil; some are grey, others are pitch black, plain and simple. This group of people, while not the worst he’d ever seen, comes near the latter shade.
There were tons of slaves here, but even more so were bodies. Some were still warm and being used as toys by the crooked pirates here, while others were already rotting.
Cedric could feel the dense negative karma shrouding these people. It’s a wonder how any of them were still alive.
He also wondered how the Space Marines hadn’t caught them yet. There must be some secret behind this, but it’s one that Cedric wasn’t all that interested in.
The pirate captain led Cedric all the way to his personal chambers, where they were greeted by a scene of pure debauchery. Dozens of women, wearing very thin pieces of clothing that left almost nothing left to the imagination, were there to greet them. Each one remained silent and obedient; some were even waiting to be picked.
However, this time, the pirate captain and his two lackeys just walked past them, going into his room to get some privacy.
Once there, Cedric sighed. His nose twitched, and a frown appeared on his face as he smelled the drugs inside the room. The air was filled with hallucinogenics, opium, ecstasy, and more types of addictive substances.
He even saw three women on the bed, writhing and babbling like fools who lost their minds.
Cedric’s face darkened, but he stayed his hand. He just sighed and returned to his usual indifference.
"How do you escape the Space Marines?" he finally asked once they had privacy.
"We stole an advanced stealth shield in a great heist last year. We cracked it and made it work. Since then, the Space Marines could no longer deal with us through normal means. Moreover, their army was spread thinly during the past five years, so they don’t have the energy or the resources to spare chasing us."
"Why are the Space Marines having troubles with their army?"
"Because the Heavenly Star’s Millennial Tournament is about to begin," the pirate captain replied. "With this upcoming grand event, criminal activity usually spikes. Additionally, the Space Marines don’t have many people because their rules are too strict and rigid; moreover, the pay is not many people’s choice."
"Heavenly Star’s Millennial Tournament, huh?"
Cedric’s got an impression of this even from Cade’s memories. In fact, it’s one that Cade had been looking forward to before he had an accident.
This tournament is a grand event that spans throughout the entirety of the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm. It’s strictly for human geniuses, open to Grand Solar to Immortal Level evolvers, and it only occurs once every 1000 years.
Not everybody was qualified to join this event; only the cream of the crop amongst the Life Evolvers could. And just by qualifying alone, many opportunities will be readily presented to the participant; therefore, everybody would do their best to qualify at least.
Cade wanted to participate in this, but alas...
As for Cedric, well, it’s a matter to be considered later. For now, he should find a place to stay, preferably not this place or this room.
"Take me to the Fallen Heaven Realm, but do it in stealth."
The pirate captain nodded and relayed his orders. Cedric didn’t stay behind. He found an empty room that’s far away from all the filth of this place and occupied it for himself.
