Dungeon Raider System -
Chapter 690 - 690: Time to pretend Part 1
Unaware of the storm brewing on their city, the last two remaining members of the Dungeon Raiders had a lavish yet silent breakfast on what used to be their headquarters. Everything changed so fast it was difficult to keep the pace and the minute they became accustomed to a new reality things would change again.
Despite this, they each found comfort on the presence of the other and simply enjoyed the moment.
"I can't believe you're wearing pants." Uriel said out of a sudden, causing Nika to flinch before replying.
"Really? That's what you want to talk about after what you showed me?"
"Not really, but also, I didn't show you anything. I've told you many times before you shouldn't sneak on other people's beds."
"Then you should probably get a bed for me." Nika rebuked and she had a valid point since Uriel's was the only bed in the entire building.
"I sort of guessed you would sleep inside my trait." Uriel shrugged.
"Like I could sleep in a place filled with corpses."
"Mummies, they're mummified corpses." Uriel countered.
"You're saying that like it sounds better, but it doesn't. Anyway, what are you planning on doing about the expedition?" She asked with curiosity.
"They reached out to you too?"
"Of course they did. I think that's the reason why they hired me on the first place, but the pay is good and they said I could keep ten percent of what I find."
"They scammed you, I get to keep half." Uriel informed her with a bare face.
"No way! That's discrimination!" Nika pouted, then continued. "so, you're coming too."
"I'll be leading the expedition."
"Look at Mister Bigshot here." She chuckled having a hard time reconciling the young archaeology student she once met with the hunter in front of her.
"Actually, I wanted to speak to you about the students. What do you think about them?"
"They're mostly garbage, but there's a few in your class that are not only competent but come from ancient families. If I had to place a bet on who's the strongest among them I'd say the Hathaway kid." Nika said with a pensive tone at first, then with confidence.
"He didn't look like much to me."
"You're one to speak. You had a rough start with him, but I think you guys can become friends. His family is wealthy beyond your imagination."
"Friends, huh." Uriel wasn't too keen on meeting new people, but it was his top priority. The crimson Dagger Medusa crafted specially for him with Luna's and Nika's help had the ability to boost Uriel's physical prowess by ten percent for each friend on his vicinity. This meant that after everyone left his combat ability was decimated.
Nika left the place as soon as she finished breakfast without even offering Uriel a ride on her bike. The reason for that was that they couldn't be seen together outside college since it could start nasty rumors about something going on between them. Uriel didn't care much for his reputation and the same applied to Nika, but they still preferred to keep their distance in college.
Unfortunately for Uriel, this meant he would be late again and this time he wouldn't have any excuse other than waking up late or so he thought at first, but when asked by Pangeotis Uriel explained he was making the preparations for the expedition. This not only saved him from being scolded, but the professor actually commended him for taking the expedition so seriously.
When the class finished and it was time for lunch, Uriel was more mindful of where to sit in the cafeteria, but word of the events that took place the day before had spread around and soon he found himself sitting alone in a table big enough for eight people.
'How am I supposed to make friends if people won't even talk to me?' He inwardly cursed at his past blunder.
"Is it okay if we sit here?" The young man who seemed fresh out the slums asked while holding his tray with trembling hands.
"Of course it is, these tables are meant for public use." The girl with eyes of two different colors answered at the same time she sat in front of Uriel placing her tray carelessly on the table.
"It's called manners." The young man grunted as he took a seat next to the blond girl. Uriel was annoyed, but he tried to put on a nice face, though he became even more annoyed when another woman took a seat.
"Like you know the first thing about manners." She scoffed.
"I'm Scoundrel, nice to meet you Sage." He extended his hand towards Uriel who replied the handshake with a firm grasp, perhaps too firm as Scoundrel yelped in pain and tilted his glass causing the liquid to stain his pants.
"My name is Alice." The blond woman said, keeping her eyes fixated on Uriel. Her expression was an unreadable cold mask as her eyes of different color attempted to pierce through Uriel's 'nice' face.
"Your eyes are beautiful." Uriel's compliment caused no effect on his target, yet the same couldn't be said about her friend who butted in with a pout.
"Why do you have to always draw all the attention towards you!?"
"That's because she's the most beautiful student in this junkyard, pleased to meet you I'm Simon." A handsome man, obviously from a rich family walked in but was soon cut short by Alice who put her hand in front of his face without cutting Eye contact with Uriel.
"Not interested."
"Don't be like that, why don't you join me at my private table? I'll buy you some real food and we can get to know each other." Simon insisted.
"Didn't you hear her? She said she's not interested." Scoundrel growled without daring to look Simon in the eye.
"Are you his monkey? Hey! You pissed your pants!" Simon called for everyone's attention while Scoundrel could do nothing but lower his head even more in a poor attempt to hide his embarrassment.
