Chapter 689 - 689: Obscure meetings Part 2

Nika woke up the next day with a headache due to drinking, well, anything with any alcohol in it. There was a ringing sound in her head, sounds were too loud, lights too bright, nothing out of the ordinary.

"I have a problem." Nika muttered while covering half of her face in regret.

"More than one, it seems." Uriel spoke next to her in the same bed, though the fact that he was shirtless was even more shocking. After doing the customary double take, the first thing Nika did was to check under the sheets where she confirmed he still had his pants on.

"Whew!" She heaved a sigh of relief.

"What got into you, acting so prude while wearing that costume?" Uriel asked with a smug smile.

"When did I put this on!?" Nika's face became pale as a ghost prompting Uriel to chuckle. "Hang on a minute, what did you do to me!?"

"Don't go pointing fingers at people just because you can't remember what you did last night."

"This is serious, please tell me I didn't make a fool of myself." Nika begged covering herself with the sheets with a very uncharacteristic modesty Uriel found amusing.

"I don't know, I went to bed early and you woke up before me. If we put up all the evidence together I'd say you ransacked my alcohol, got drunk, dressed in the maid cosplay and you sneaked into my bed with evil intentions, but passed out right after taking off my shirt." Uriel explained.

Nika listened to Uriel nodding at every statement, yet her face went from pale to white when she saw Uriel's bare chest.

"Is this... is this your trait?" Nika said in a stuttery gasp.

"This," Uriel pointed at his chest. "is now our secret."

The Cryptid hunting agency in the megacity of New Texas was busy as always. Roudy hunters seeking for jobs in the middle of bustling noises while the receptionists did their best to hand over the proper jobs for the proper teams.

The new head of the Cryptid hunting agency, a woman whose nickname made her justice not just because of the nature of her trait but also due to her prickly attitude, greeted another woman of a similar standing.

"I know you're kind of new at this job, but are you not going to invite me to take a seat?" Asked Charlie, her eyes a deep red and her smile bearing fearsome fangs.

"Seats are only for guests, not enemies." Sharp's glare when studying Charlie's attire oozed nothing but the most pure form of disgust. After all, a leather bikini and a cowboy hat were not only poor fashion choices, but also inconvenient.

"Enemies?" Charlie sat on the chair ignoring Sharp's remark. "I'm here on behalf of the city, the same as you. You may not like me as a person..."

"For me to not like you as a person implies I recognize you as one." Sharp snorted.

"And here I thought we would get along now, especially after I learned the kind of friends you made." Charlie shrugged.

"Who I am friends with is not your fucking business, just spit out whatever lies you want and get out of my sight."

"Actually, it's precisely because of who you're friends with that I'm here. You see, the governor gave me a task, but I'm afraid I can't do it on my own."

"And why should I care about what do you want?"

"Because it is your duty." Charlie poked her tongue out in a playful manner, yet Sharp remained immune to her charms.

"Duty, that word used to mean something," Sharp heaved a sigh as she leaned back on her seat. "What do you want?"

"I need your friend's help. I hear she's quite powerful and cute too. If you lend her to me I won't have a reason to show up here."

"Until the next time you stumble upon something you can't solve with your tits. If I let her go I would be setting a precedent and a very dangerous one at that."

"It's not your choice, the governor..."

"Well the governor needs to come in person and ask me in person. That way at least I would be able to point out where to shove their agenda to the face."

"You are so mean!" Charlie pouted as she turned to leave, yet an uncanny smile appeared on her face as she licked her left fang.

It wasn't until Sharp was absolutely certain that Charlie was truly gone that she let go of the sword handle she had been gripping under her desk the entire time. From the moment she was appointed as the head of the Cryptid hunting agency she knew it would only be a matter of time until she got involved into politics, but she never expected it to happen so soon.

"Why can't this job be just about killing cryptids?" Sharp grumbled and continued reading through the reports sitting on her table.

"Is everything alright?" Sharp's assistant showed up with a mug of coffee, black and bitter just how her boss liked it.

"This is just like washing fucking dishes. The moment I'm done with a few reports another pile just appears on my desk. It thought I would at least get the chance to kill something, but no, it's just a desk job and I'm wasting my skills here. I'm sitting on my ass so much it's now flat! I'm not fucking kidding, stop laughing."

"The reason why only the strongest hunters can become head of this agency is because hunters who succeed aren't usually the ones with the more powerful traits, but the more cautious ones."

"Do you really think I'm the strongest hunter in this city? That's a joke if I ever heard one." Sharp declared without a hint of amusement on her eyes.

"Of course Miss Lily doesn't count. Holy rank hunters are wood chopped from a different tree." Sharp's assistant explained.

"I wasn't thinking about her." Sharp leaned forward as an idea crossed her mind.
