Chapter 691 - 691: Time to pretend Part 2
The scene unfolding in front of Uriel made him even more annoyed than he already was. For one, he hated when people were loud while he wanted to eat and all he wanted now was some peace. He also didn't know any of the people around him and didn't even like them, especially since the memory of how they made fun of him when he showed up late for class was still fresh on his memory.
What annoyed him most of all, however, was Simon bullying Scoundrel in front of him. It was a situation that Uriel knew all too well as he had lived it on his own flesh more times than he could count. But before Uriel decided to take any action, Alice had already made her move.
"Don't mind him, honey, I only have eyes for you." Alice said as she gave Scoundrel a peck on the cheek that made him turn into an even brighter shade of red.
"I won't forget about this!" Simon retreated spitting all sorts of threats under his breath.
"You shouldn't give your real name, Alice." The other woman who was part of the uneven friend group whispered. Of all those in the table she was the only one who noticed the sudden shift in Uriel's demeanor when Simon approached them.
She came from the slums just like Scoundrel which explained why she had such a sharp sense for danger. Scoundrel too would have noticed if not for him being too embarrassed by the situation.
"It's fine, Ashani, it's not a secret anyway." She replied finally breaking the long stare she had been directing towards Uriel.
"Why did you tell him my name!? He's dangerous!" Ashani cried as she clung to Alice's shirt.
"Because, it doesn't make a difference, we are all dangerous. Or did you forget we're hunters?"
"Yes, but..." Ashani attempted to rebuke, but Scoundrel cut her short.
"And he's also Pangeotis' assistant."
"Professor." Uriel scoffed at Scoundrel's blatant disrespect.
"Please excuse him, I'm sure you already noticed he's from the slums." Alice said in a composed manner. Alice was more beautiful, wealthy and also stronger than the other two students in front of Uriel which immediately identified as their leader, but she didn't act arrogant towards them which surprised Uriel.
Judging by what he had seen so far, Uriel's impression about the hunters in front of him was that they were inexperienced, but they had some potential. Also, they approached him on their own which meant befriending them should be easy.
Unfortunately, it was also obvious there was an ulterior motive as to why they decided to approach him which meant that he needed to put in some work to become real friends. After racking up his brain searching for any common ground with his now classmates, Uriel found out what he thought would be the perfect topic of discussion.
"Fucking rich guys, am I right?" Uriel said expecting nods of approval from at least Ashani, who among those present was obviously the less favored. What happened instead was that the three students looked at him like he was a rare animal in a zoo. "Especially hate when on top of that they're handsome."
The look on the three students sitting in front of him shifted into the same one he directed towards Nika more often than he would have liked. It was a look that asked an implicit question that Alice soon vocalized.
"I know I shouldn't ask this because you're a teaching assistant and please, don't be offended. Are you dumb?"
"Huh?" Uriel tilted his head wondering if he should be offended or not, but then Scoundrel intervened with a grunt.
"Have you looked yourself in the mirror?"
"I...," Uriel lingered for a few more seconds until he realized the problem. He was now rich, dressed fashionably with only natural fibers and was more handsome than the average well fed heavenly rank hunter. "It's the force of habit, I guess. I too come from the slums."
"Yeah, right," Ashani scoffed. "Like we would believe something like that. You're wealthy, handsome and also powerful."
"Feel free to ask Professor Pangeotis, though I doubt he would appreciate you wasting his time for something so trivial." Uriel sighed.
"Forget about that, are you not curious about the reason why we came to sit with you?" Alice questioned.
"I'm starting to believe it's not because I'm handsome." Uriel chuckled.
"We need help." Scoundrel awkwardly asked.
"You do." Uriel nodded knowingly.
"But we haven't even told you what this is about!" Scoundrel exclaimed offended.
"I think I know what's going on here." Uriel's eyes became sharp before he continued. "Scoundrel, you're obviously interested in Pangeotis course, but you don't admire or respect the professor. This means you're interested in the course but you're not big on reading. Ashani, right?"
"Yes." She nodded with a slight shiver.
"You're not interested in the subject and just tagged along with Scoundrel because he was your friend. Before learning about the ancient artifacts you planned on dropping the course and selling your position to a wealthy student. Since you two obviously come from the slums it's obvious you lived in this city when 'it' happened and became a package deal, probably after Scoundrel saved you."
"What about me?" Alice placed her two colored eyes on Uriel's while holding a smug grin. She prided herself on keeping her emotions close to the vest and being unreadable.
"You come from a wealthy family..." Uriel started.
"Wow, that is so amazing," Alice yawned. "what gave me up? My designer clothes or my jewelry?"
"You didn't let me finish. You ran away from home looking for freedom, but that also meant them cutting you off. That explains why you became friends with people from the slums instead of rich students and also why you took Pangeotis' course without even knowing what it was about. So, the reason why you all approached me is because you wanted me to help you in your studies."
