Chapter 595: Chapter 590: Interviewee
After the strong cold wave hit, the temperature finally warmed up a bit.
Ever since she saw those words that day, Cherish Turner felt something blocking her heart, uncomfortable and stuffy, but she kept this feeling to herself and didn’t want to talk about it.
Elijah Butler had also been very busy recently, focusing on his own career. Now life seemed busier and more numb, at least not quite as painful.
Butler had gone to take a class in business administration.
At first, he had planned to open his second bar and had been preparing for it, but suddenly there was no news about it. When Cherish asked what had happened, Elijah just laughed and said, "I think girls shouldn’t be too restless. Running one bar is enough for me. I want to go back to school and reapply to college."
Elijah changed his decision in an instant, and Cherish thought it was a good idea, very supportive, albeit a bit strange as she knew he had never liked studying. Still, no matter what, studying was always a good thing.
Cherish finally received a call for a job interview, going to a magazine company to apply as a copywriting specialist. After being idle for so long since her return to China, she couldn’t stand being idle anymore. However, she avoided any financial positions, instead choosing seemingly unrelated industries such as magazines. This surprised Elijah but was within reason.
There were two interviewers, a man and a woman. The woman was beautiful, with long, straight hair down to her shoulders and a very sharp gaze. The man was a bit green, seemingly around the same age as Cherish, and obviously not the main character. The woman asked Cherish many questions, only stopping when there was nothing more to criticize, allowing Cherish to enter the magazine smoothly.
A week later, Cherish had integrated into the team and got along well with her colleagues.
During the weekly meeting, the entire magazine staff discussed the content for the next issue. After much deliberation, they decided to focus on "finance." Once the theme was set, the interview with the star figure was naturally confirmed. An unknown female staffer exclaimed, "If we’re talking about finance, the star figure has to be the president of Griffith Group, William Griffith!"
"If we can interview him, our magazine will definitely sell like hotcakes this issue!" another colleague chimed in.
Chief Editor Billy pondered for a moment, then approved, "Okay, let’s go with him. Emmy Chip, I’m giving you the task of interviewing him."
"I understand." Emmy replied.
"For the copywriting specialist, I’ll assign..." Billy’s gaze swept over the staffers as he considered his options.
Immediately a female colleague volunteered, "Chief Editor, I’d be happy to work with Deputy Editor Chip!"
Billy wasn’t convinced, weighing his options, "I remember Cherish Turner graduated from University A, right?" That would mean she was a schoolmate of President Griffith, wouldn’t it?
"Yes." Cherish smiled in response, then heard him say, "I’m assigning you to assist Emmy with the latest issue’s star figure interview starting today."
Emmy, one of the interviewers from that day, raised her eyebrows in an unhappy protest, "Chief Editor, this star interview is so important, and you’re assigning a newbie to work with me? Besides, I heard that Mr. Watson has always refused interviews - other magazines must have called and visited him countless times, only to be rejected at the door every time! It’s just too hard to handle!"
"That doesn’t sound like your style! Are you giving up so soon?" Billy said. "There’s a saying that ’man proposes, God disposes.’ Just give it a try."
Then Billy looked at Cherish and said, "Your first task at the magazine is to assist Deputy Editor Chip in interviewing the president of Griffith Group, William Griffith!"
Cherish was startled and tightened her grip on the pen she was holding.
Suddenly, there was a feeling of meeting at the end of the road.
After the magazine’s first task was decided, Cherish didn’t immediately participate in any related matters.
Emmy clearly didn’t trust the newcomer, so she took care of everything personally. For three days in a row, Emmy made at least a hundred phone calls asking for an interview with Griffith. But the calls were never transferred to the president’s secretary and instead were rejected by the receptionist: "I’m sorry, President Griffith is not accepting any interviews from magazines or newspapers."
The same response every time was increasingly frustrating to Emmy.
After three days of trying with no success, Emmy decided to go staking out Griffith. As she walked by the break room, she saw Cherish making coffee, and the inexplicable anger suddenly flared up. Why should Cherish have such leisure while she had to be so frustrated? Emmy snorted coldly, ordering her, "Cherish Turner, come with me now!"
