Chapter 555: Chapter 554: Spilt Water Can’t Be Recovered
"Let me drive you." Daniel Peacock spoke after a long pause, pulling her to the car parked behind him.
The car sped past the hotel, but another figure rushed out after them.
Yannis Griffith anxiously looked around, holding his phone and trying to make calls, but none of them connected.
The car stopped in front of Spring Garden, and Cherish Turner took off her suit jacket and thanked Daniel before getting out of the car. Daniel also got out, grabbing his coat as he did. He blocked her, putting the suit jacket back on her, and tersely said, "You don’t have to return it to me! Do whatever you want with it!"
"That’s not what I meant." Cherish said softly.
Daniel suppressed his anger and spoke solemnly. "Knowing that you are bound to lose, why are you still so obsessed? He’s already announced his engagement, and you still stay by his side. What is that all about? You know the Griffith Family’s background; do you want to be looked down on every day? He should have known about the engagement beforehand. Don’t be such a fool! Maybe he’s just playing with you!"
As his thoughts became chaotic and his words didn’t match his heart, Daniel suddenly regretted what he had said, but it was too late to take it back.
Cherish was quiet for a moment, her voice soft yet firm. "He’s not that kind of person."
Daniel felt disheartened, an indescribable taste in his mouth. Clenching his fist lightly, he said, "Suit yourself."
When she returned to the apartment, Cherish immediately received a phone call. She thought it would be William Griffith, but it was Yannis Griffith instead. He repeatedly asked if she was alright and where she was. She told him that she was home and fine. Yannis reminded her a few more times before hanging up the phone.
Cherish sat in the living room, waiting until the early morning, but she never got a call from William.
She had long since memorized his phone number, and she couldn’t help but dial him.
After a few rings, the call finally connected, but on the other end, William didn’t say anything. Cherish held her phone and cautiously asked, "How is your grandfather?"
"Cerebral hemorrhage." His voice was especially low, causing Cherish extra heartache.
"He’ll be alright, don’t worry." Cherish held her breath for a moment. "William, I’m home safe. Don’t worry about me or Duoduo. We’re both fine..." as she continued, her voice became softer, and all that remained of her thousands of words was this single sentence: "We’re waiting for you."
"Cherish." William called her name softly, and she listened attentively. He was silent for a long time before suddenly saying, "Don’t run around."
He had said these three words more than once — don’t run around.
At this moment, could she take it as him trying to keep her close?
The next morning, William had someone deliver her purse to her apartment.
But during the next three days, Cherish didn’t know how she managed to get through.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday... each day seemed to stretch out into an endless wait. On the weekends, she occasionally watched TV with Elijah Butler and went to the bar in the evenings to accompany him home. Now there were two of them, and they didn’t feel so lonely. But her heart was always hanging in the air, never settling down.
For three days in a row, Elijah Butler didn’t see that certain someone come to the apartment and naturally began to sense that something was amiss. At first, he thought that the person had gone out for a meeting, assuming that the bosses of these big companies must be very busy. In the past, just listening to Cherish’s endless work, he felt annoyed.
But by Sunday evening, Elijah Butler finally realized the strangeness of the situation.
