Chapter 538: Chapter 537: Taking the Initiative

In that instant, Cherish Turner’s timid, shy, and slightly nervous face was imprinted in William Griffith’s eyes, unable to dissipate. The blurry image suddenly became an imprint, engraving itself into his mind as if it could never be erased. The burning cigarette in his hand produced a white smoke that permeated the air.

Cherish cautiously looked at him, her gaze darting back and forth, not daring to make eye contact with him.

Her heart thumped wildly.

Cherish clenched her fists in doubt and looked at him. His handsome face had no expression, always making it impossible to see the real him. He suddenly got up and walked towards her step by step. She was a little scared and wanted to run away, but she couldn’t move at all.

Maybe, maybe she was waiting for something still.

So she stood still, staring blankly at him as he stood right in front of her. How did this man get so tall and imposing? He didn’t look down at her, but he didn’t have a condescending posture or a haughty attitude either. He simply bent down slowly, his eyes level with hers, intensely staring into them.

William gazed at her stunned face and frightened eyes. Suddenly, without any warning, a smile appeared on his face. His smile was very light and shallow, only lifting the corners of his mouth, but it was so enchanting. His bewitching smile captured her completely.

His warm, dark hand touched her face, his lips approaching hers.

It was such a gentle kiss, landing on her forehead, a precious and cherished touch.

"Goodnight," William dropped his hand and gave her a charming smile.

Blush rushed to her cheeks, and Cherish hurriedly replied, "Goodnight." Her gaze swiftly flitted across his face as she turned and rushed out of the apartment, burying her head in agony as she hurried back to the eighth floor. Once she was back, she clasped her chest, only to find her heart racing. Could this be... electrifying?

Cherish lay in bed, hugging her pillow, restless.

Upon further thought, he never answered the question of whether they were friends or not.

But he wished her a goodnight, and he didn’t deny it, so... could she take that as a sign that they were friends now?

-

"Good morning, Assistant Turner."

"Morning."

"Assistant Turner, is there any good news?"

Her coworker Xiao Jiang appeared at her side, a look of curiosity on his face. Cherish put down her bag, pressed the computer’s power button while tidying her desk, and replied, "No."

"Really? You look so happy; I thought something good happened to you!" Xiao Jiang muttered.

Cherish shook her head, doubting herself too. Was she really that happy?

She went through the whole day’s work with ease, and everything went smoothly.

After lunch, the manager organized a team meeting. In the bright and quiet small conference room, Cherish sat next to the manager, taking notes of the meeting content. Suddenly, the phone in her pocket vibrated, the sound clearly transmitted through her clothes. Who would message her?

Could it... be him?

Cherish, who usually wouldn’t check her phone during meetings, couldn’t help but take it out to see. But when she saw the message, she felt a little disappointed. It was just a system message. Silently, she took the initiative to send a message to him - asking if he wanted to have dinner together tonight.

As she waited for a reply, time seemed to be crawling at a snail’s pace.

But even after the meeting ended, there was still no reply.

"Ahh," Xiao Jiang stretched languidly, exclaiming, "Finally off work! I’m so tired!"

Cherish smiled, then stood up to deliver the final file to the manager’s office.
