Chapter 537: Chapter 536: Why Do You Care About Me
William Griffith didn’t say a word, with the hand that was free, he pointed towards the apartment.
What? He’s been in the apartment all along? Cherish Turner couldn’t help feeling remorseful, why didn’t she think to knock on the door to check if he was in?
"You..." She stuttered, unable to continue her words.
"Are you able to move now?" William asked, his deep voice as he helped her up.
Cherish nodded, standing upright. She lowered her head, filled with a plethora of things to say, yet now when she actually saw him, she couldn’t speak them. William shot her a glance, turned and began to walk away in silence.
"William Griffith." Seeing him leaving, she quickly shouted.
This long-missed call, so casually left her mouth.
William stopped in his tracks, looked back at her while still maintaining his silence.
"Where are you going?" Cherish asked, her eyebrow furrowed.
William paused and then slowly uttered two words, "Hungry."
"I’ll cook for you." Cherish immediately volunteered, it was her first instinct. Having said that, she realized something was amiss, she continued, "It’s late, it would be troublesome to go out. Moreover, I’m also a bit hungry. Either way, someone has to cook. Let me do it."
"But I only have tomatoes and eggs, is it ok to make noodles?" She kept her head down afraid he would reject. Expecting a response she couldn’t help but lookup, those clear eyes shimmered with the light of anticipation.
The light in the corridor was so dim, it cast a yellow glow on her fair face.
It was so warm that it seemed to seep into people’s hearts.
Just then, William took the keys out of his pocket and opened the apartment door again.
"I’ll go get the ingredients. Wait for me okay." Cherish uttered, quickly rushing to the 8th floor to get the food. She barged into his flat holding the ingredients, out of breath, without even changing. The door was only half-closed. She entered the kitchen and began cooking.
In the living room, William lit a cigarette and smoked silently.
In no time, Cherish had prepared the noodles, placing the bowl on the dining table. She stood next to the dining table, turned her head towards him and gently called, "It’s ready."
William took another drag from his cigarette, then put it out. He walked towards the table, sat down, and began eating in silence. She sat across from him, eating bite by bite, but because she was too attentive towards him, her bowl of noodles became mushy, she had only eaten a few bites.
After they finished eating quietly, she picked up the bowl to wash dishes.
The sound of water could be heard running and then abruptly stopped.
Cherish dried her hands and walked out of the kitchen to see him sitting back on the sofa, smoking in silence again. She picked up a bottle of apple juice and placed it on the coffee table in front of him. He looked at her, his gaze cold as he uttered after a long while, "I think I’ve said it before. Don’t worry about me. I’m not a good guy."
"Hmm——" She dragged the sound.
Exhaling a cloud of white smoke, William asked heavily, "Why do you care about me?"
Why...
The dim, warm light spilled on her hair, her face, there was a moment of confusion in her expression, then she spoke softly, with shyness and nervousness, she gently said, "We... should be friends, right? Besides, I really like Lewis, and you’re his father."
Even couldn’t confirm, didn’t dare to confirm, she was so cautious.
We... are still friends, right?
