Chapter 536: Chapter 535: Unable to Say It Out Loud

The honking of cars, the shouts of the crowd, the sound of wind and vehicles brushing past her ears... The lonely girl wandered aimlessly through the city, almost with a crazed desperation. No one noticed that she was looking for someone, blindly searching for a person whose whereabouts were unknown.

She even thought about stopping someone and asking, "Hey, do you know where William Griffith went?"

But who would know who William Griffith was?

Amidst the aimless wandering and searching, the sky gradually darkened.

On a late-night, Cherish Turner, weary from her search, returned to the old apartment building where he lived. The advertisement poster was still affixed to the front gate, not taken down at all. She gazed at it blankly and suddenly leaned back against the door, weakly sitting on the ground.

Grasping her phone with both hands, Cherish pressed the number keys, and three words appeared on the screen.

Looking at the message sent successfully, she lowered her head, clutching her phone tight.

Those three words, perhaps she wouldn’t be able to say them when facing him personally – "How are you?"

William Griffith, how are you?

Cherish didn’t know how long she had been sitting there, waiting. She only knew that her feet were numb, and she was no longer aware of the entire world around her. Perhaps she was too tired, too tired to even stand up. She leaned her head against the wall, simply sat on the ground outside the apartment, quietly waiting for the man whose whereabouts were unknown.

Her hand held tightly onto her phone, never letting it go.

Maybe it would ring the next second.

Only now did she realize that he almost never called her and only replied to her messages very occasionally. So pitifully few that she could count them clearly.

It was so quiet around her that she felt like she was the only one left in the entire building.

Cherish suddenly recalled Daniel Peacock’s words from that day, "You made a wise choice by picking someone who is close to having nothing."

Now she understood what he meant by those words.

Having nothing?

Slender arms wrapped around her own body, Cherish suddenly felt a chill.

Time ticked away, and as it approached the early morning hours, a sudden movement occurred at the apartment’s gate where the advertisement paper was. Miraculously, someone opened the door.

The apartment was pitch black inside, without any lights turned on.

A tall figure was swallowed up by the darkness, but the wickedly handsome face was still visible in the dim light from outside. He stepped out of the apartment calmly, closing the door behind him. Only when his gaze inadvertently drifted to the small, curled-up shadow at his feet did he realize something was there.

William turned to face her, slowly lowering his gaze to meet hers.

Her black hair was a bit messy, no longer neatly arranged as usual, and resting on her shoulder. She was still dressed in a suit, obviously wearing her work attire. Such a small person, sitting on the ground with her body wrapped around herself, she was motionless, as if asleep.

"What are you doing sitting here?" His deep voice suddenly rang out, like a sounding chime.

Hearing his voice, it was both familiar and strange to her.

Cherish’s body tensed, and she slowly raised her head. In a daze, her eyes met his, cold enough to make one’s heart race. Panic-stricken and hesitant, she tried to get up, only to realize that her legs were numb and without feeling. The next moment, she was about to fall back onto the ground.

His strong arm reached out just in time, grabbing her arm, and he leaned his body forward, allowing her to fall against his chest.

Leaning on his chest, Cherish took in the faint smell of tobacco mixed with the scent of grass from his cologne. The combination created his unique fragrance. Hesitantly, she opened her mouth and asked softly, "Where... have you been?"

As expected, she couldn’t bring herself to say those three words after all.
