Chapter 479: Chapter 480: Always Far Away
William Griffith stood across the street, smoking a cigarette as he quietly watched her. He saw her go into the convenience store, pick up a sandwich and milk, and then sit on a bench to slowly eat her meal. She was always a quiet person and didn’t talk much. Later on, he discovered that she spoke even less than he did.
When he finished his cigarette, William saw her stand up. He quickly took cover, not wanting her to spot him.
Cherish Turner threw the wrapper into the trash bin and then headed towards a building.
William gazed as she slowly entered the building. He looked up and saw the billboard for the IELTS training center. With a furrowed brow, he crossed the road and entered the academic building as well.
In the blink of an eye, he lost track of where she had gone.
William stood in the hallway on the third floor, feeling completely lost. He suddenly felt anxious, as if he’d lost something.
Suddenly, he heard a woman’s voice and faintly recognized the name "Cherish Turner."
William walked a few steps towards the voice and saw an older woman, in her fifties, talking to Cherish, who had her back turned to him. Vaguely, he heard the woman say, "There’s no piano class today, what brings you here?"
"Teacher, there’s a piano performance today, so I came to watch it."
"Well, you better hurry, it’s about to start."
"Goodbye, teacher."
"Goodbye."
As he heard her conversing with the middle-aged woman, William grew more puzzled. He instinctively followed her footsteps, only to see her enter an auditorium. He quickly sped up and hid next to the door.
The auditorium was filled with darkness, except for the brightly lit stage, where two female students performed a piano duet.
William scanned the room, glancing at each face before finally resting his eyes on one point. Cherish sat in the audience, and next to her was a man with whom she seemed to be familiar. The two laughed and talked occasionally. The auditorium was too dark to make out the man clearly, but he appeared young and handsome, with an extraordinary aura under the dim light.
He didn’t know who this man was or when Cherish had met him.
Everything here, including the man, was completely foreign to him.
He suddenly realized that she had always been far away from him.
With a deep gaze, William took one last look at her and then turned away.
"Who is that handsome man?"
"I don’t know."
A couple of girls entering the auditorium caught a glimpse of William, the charming man exuding a cold and proud aura. He seemed to pay no attention to others as he walked away. However, he didn’t leave right away; he merely waited downstairs in the training center, smoking another cigarette silently.
In his mind, William painted various possible scenarios, none of which seemed too deliberate.
For the first time, he felt so nervous, taking puffs of his cigarette to steady his thoughts.
People continuously entered and exited the building in various manners, but none of them was her.
It wasn’t until her figure reappeared that William quickly tossed the half-smoked cigarette into the trash can. She walked out alone, seeming to hail a taxi. He furrowed his brow, sprinted across the street and raced to the opposite direction, taking a detour.
Cherish looked around for a car, eager to catch a ride.
Suddenly, a deep indifferent male voice sounded in her ear, "What a coincidence."
That voice... Cherish turned around in surprise, only to see William Griffith, who had appeared behind her at some point.
