Chapter 480: Chapter 481: Let’s Do It Together
This voice... Cherish Turner turned around in surprise to see William Griffith standing behind her at some point. She jumped, reflexively taking a step back, losing her footing, and stumbled out onto the road. A car was quickly approaching from the side, he quickly reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her protectively into his embrace.
Cherish’s head bumped against his chest, the warm and painful sensation made her tremble.
When Cherish came to her senses and realized his arms were around her, she quickly stepped back, leaving his broad and sturdy embrace. She wasn’t sure whether it was fear of lingering feelings that would make it hard to let go, or a reminder to herself not to harbor any extra thoughts of longing, recognizing the fact that they had already broken up.
But her actions caused William Griffith to furrow his brows. Was she trying to set boundaries?
Cherish hadn’t thought about how one should confront an ex-lover who unexpectedly shows up in public. In her panic, she looked up at him, smiled slightly, and said softly, "I’m fine."
She never liked to make people worry, even if they had broken up, she could still be like before.
When William saw her smile, it was as beautiful as a firework falling from the night sky. How could her smile be so calm, so relaxed? In the past, he hadn’t realized a smile could be so dazzling.
"Hm, what are you doing here?" Cherish asked casually.
The streets were noisy with the sound of passing cars.
William’s deep, ink-like eyes stared at her, only after a while did he utter two words, "Passing by."
Cherish responded with an ’Oh,’ not dwelling on it. Holding her bag tightly in her hands, she was about to speak when he beat her to the punch, "Are you going to Hailey’s farewell party?"
"I’m on my way," Cherish said quietly.
"Let’s go together," William said in a deep voice.
"That’s unnecessary, I can take a cab ..." Cherish quickly said, secretly wondering if he was going to pick up Chloe Turner next. It might be awkward to meet her. Moreover, she didn’t want to see their intimate moments. Her wounds haven’t completely healed yet, she may need some more time.
"We’ll take a cab together." William once again interrupted her, stating firmly. His sharp eyes spotted a taxi coming, immediately stopping it and opening the car door.
Cherish frowned, realizing this was the most awkward situation.
"Miss, hurry up and get in the car!" the driver urged.
Helpless, Cherish stepped forward and got into the car. He squeezed in with his tall figure, accompanied by the scent of tobacco and grass. She shifted over in her seat, and he sat next to her. William told the driver the address and the car immediately set off.
Feeling the atmosphere too stifling and realizing she should say something, Cherish pondered for a while before finding a topic to bring up, "Didn’t you bring your car?"
William nodded slightly, without uttering a word.
Once again the atmosphere grew stifling, and Cherish finally ran out of topics.
William gazed straight ahead, asking indifferently, "What were you doing there?"
"Where?"
"I saw you coming out of the training center."
"I signed up for piano lessons there," Cherish responded lightly.
William kept quiet for a moment, and finally said, "You’ve never mentioned it before."
’Before’... the word made Cherish feel a little lost. She turned to look out the window, the scenery flashing by, not registering in her sight. During those days, he was accompanying a girl named Chloe Turner. The corners of her mouth lifted slightly and her voice was as light as it could be, "It’s not something important."
