Chapter 475: Chapter 476: She Would Rather Get Soaked in the Rain

Cherish Turner glanced at her wristwatch, it was about time. Daniel Peacock had asked her to meet at 1:00 PM. She changed her clothes, took her shoulder bag, and went out. The meeting place was in Landmark Square. She took a bus to the bustling city and had to walk a bit after getting off the bus. The area was filled with shopping malls and commercial buildings. The sun shone on the glass surfaces which caused her to squint.

In front of her, a couple was riding their bicycles past. Cherish stepped aside, watching the couple ride by.

At a corner of the square, Cherish finally found Daniel Peacock.

Daniel was wearing a beige casual T-shirt, looking fresh and handsome. He stretched out his hand to her, holding two movie tickets. "Let’s go see a movie."

Cherish nodded, walking with him towards the nearby movie theater.

On the way, she asked Daniel what movie they were going to see. Daniel told her it was the latest comedy film. Apparently, nobody who had seen it didn’t laugh. It was being shown in cinema hall five, and they had two seats in the middle of the sixth row. It was almost a full house, clearly a popular film. The laughter was constant from the beginning to the end of the movie.

Cherish couldn’t help but laugh at the film, her peaceful face bearing a smile, looking very happy.

Daniel quietly glanced at her, but felt she was like a whiff of air.

When the movie was over, they both left the theater quietly.

"Did you like the movie?"

"It was pretty good."

Daniel would ask, and Cherish would simply answer.

The two walked side by side out of the theater and planned to go to a nearby restaurant for dinner. During the meal, they chatted about the movie’s plot. Although it was a comedy, there were some insightful moments. Daniel drove her home afterwards, and as they were about to say goodbye at the entrance of her apartment building, Daniel suddenly said, "Cherish, from Monday to Sunday, you can find me anytime. I’m always free."

Cherish looked at him, seeing his gentle resolve. "Daniel, I really enjoyed the movie today. Especially when the leading lady said a particular line."

"What?" Daniel asked, confused.

With a faint smile, Cherish softly replied as if she were answering, "If I can’t find the umbrella I like, I’d rather get wet in the rain."

This statement made Daniel freeze. He wasn’t stupid; he understood the meaning.

William Griffith was the umbrella she enjoyed having, but since she couldn’t have him, she would rather get wet in the rain and not accept Daniel.

What had been missed, yet why after that had passed and was lost, did Daniel seem so eager to hold on to Cherish?

Why do people always do this, not cherishing their moments together, only to regret their loss later?

In the end, Daniel felt heartache. He thought of a hundred underhanded ways to try to bring her back to his side but ultimately gave up. He didn’t want Cherish to only harbor hatred for him in the end.

"Cherish, we’re friends. No matter when, friends will always be by your side." Daniel gazed at her thoughtfully, choosing his words carefully. However, in the depths of his eyes hid an unknown darkness.

His simple words were heavy, warming Cherish’s heart.

But before she could thank him, he spoke up, "Alright, it’s getting late, you should go upstairs and get some rest."

Cherish waved at him, reminding him to "be careful on the road," before turning to enter her apartment.

The night was dark and deep, the alley was silent and empty except for the echoing of footsteps.

Daniel looked down in thought as that phrase kept circling in his ears, unable to dissipate.

If I can’t find the umbrella I like, I’d rather get wet in the rain.

But, Cherish, how long do you plan to stand in the rain?

One week, one month, or a year, or perhaps even longer.

That favored umbrella might already be in someone else’s hands.

How can you find it?
