Chapter 470: Chapter 471: Not Belonging to Oneself

Perhaps it was because she had drunk too much the previous night, when she woke up her head pounded unpleasantly. She closed her eyes, hoping to catch a little rest during the drive. She retrieved her cell phone from her pocket and started scrolling through the photos on it.

Unexpectedly, she came across a photo of the ring that William Griffith had given her.

Once, she had snapped a photo with this ring on her hand, not knowing why or what particular feeling had compelled her to do so.

She wondered if she had subconsciously known at the time she took the photo that, one day, this ring would no longer belong to her.

"Sister Cherish, your ring looks pretty nice. It must be a gift from President Griffith, right?" Little Jiang who sat beside her couldn’t help but comment when she caught a glimpse of the ring on Cherish’s finger. Cherish’s right hand in the photo still sported the ring she used to remove only when sleeping or showering. (The sun shone through the car window, casting light on the silver ring in her palm, as if a needle were piercing through her eyes.

Looking at the ring, she became lost in thought. It felt as though she could still sense the cool weight of the ring on her finger, as if she were about to be burned by a phantom sensation.

"Oh right, Sister Cherish. I heard that Mr. Chip has assigned all the advertising design work for the Bay Resort exclusively to ours, the Demon Manga Club. Is that true?"

"Hmm." Cherish Turner barely registered what was said, replying absent-mindedly.

"Really? Here I was thinking I could take a break next. Seems like that’s impossible now!"

Little Jiang scrunched her face, complaining about the troublesome situation.

Cherish Turner sat extremely quiet, as if the sunlight would melt her away. Suddenly, she looked up and stared straight ahead. She effortlessly switched her phone back to the home screen and carefully put it away.

One by one, people arrived at the office building of the Bay City Beach Resort.

After a long period of negotiations, it looked like the Bay Resort Project was finally going to be sealed. The receptionist greeted them with a courteous smile and ushered them into the waiting room.

Originally, they thought the Demon Manga Club would be the first to arrive since the signing of the agreement was still more than half an hour away.

But when the receptionist pushed the door open, the Griffith delegation had already arrived, which was quite unexpected.

The thick smell of smoke filled the air, a scent Cherish was familiar with. She didn’t look up at him, but she didn’t know what she was trying to avoid. Following Chief Editor Sally, she walked to the other side of the conference table and sat down. Only then did she slowly raise her head, deciding she had to face it.

This was their first meeting since they decided to break up.

Cherish Turner looked ahead calmly, her gaze following the men who sat opposite her – until she finally laid eyes on him.

William Griffith sat there quietly. As always in public, his demeanor was indifferent, and cells devoid of any noticeable emotion. Cherish was familiar and comfortable with this side of him. He had taken off his suit jacket, and the sleeves of his shirt were casually rolled up, revealing his bare forearm.

Chief Editor Sally stood up with a smile to greet William and shake hands with him. William also stood up and extended his hand.

Cherish Turner noted how one sleeve was rolled up higher than the other — they were not symmetrical, causing her to freeze for a moment in surprise.

William Griffith was smoking, his icy gaze sweeps over their group as he flicked his cigarette ash. His attention lingered momentarily on a pair of hands that were twirling a pen. The fingers were slender and clean, but there was no jewelry adorning them.

He took a deep puff, burning a stub of ash from the cigarette.

On the dot of the scheduled time, Mr. Chip arrived in the conference room.
