Chapter 448: Chapter 449: Why Leave

"Miss Turner, your body won’t cope like this, how can you not eat?"

"I really don’t have an appetite." Chloe Turner sighed, not seeming to lie.

Yannis Griffith fell silent, just looking at her.

Then Chloe began to mutter to herself as if recounting her past, the happenings between her and William Griffith.

Yannis didn’t know about all these; there was a time when his elder brother was in Kyoto City while he was in Haicheng. He was oblivious to whatever happened in Kyoto City.

Now Chloe said a lot to him, perhaps it was because he was William’s younger brother. She might want to use him as a medium to tell William all these things.

He didn’t know if all of these details were true, but if so, hearing them was both shocking and heartbreaking.

"Eat something, or you won’t be able to stand it." He gave her the bowl of porridge. As Chloe looked at the bowl, she lapsed into deep thought.

After a while, Chloe seemed to relent. She took the spoon and sipped the porridge. Perhaps she hadn’t eaten anything for too long, the warm liquid was as hard to swallow as wax. She grimaced slightly and forced it down, but her stomach turned, making her cover her mouth and dart into the bathroom.

"Miss Turner?" Yannis cried out in surprise, following her into the bathroom.

Chloe Turner was leaning on the washstand, retching painfully, tears overflowing her eyes.

"What’s wrong??" Seeing her like this, Yannis hastily walked over to support her, asking worriedly.

"I’m fine ..." Chloe said weakly, feeling dizzy, "I just feel... sleepy..."

"Miss Turner?" Seeing her pale face, Yannis was astounded. He abruptly carried her up, shouting at the housemaid, "Get Miss Turner’s bag, let’s go to the hospital!"

On the road to the hospital, the maid helped Chloe to sit in the back seat.

Yannis, clutching the steering wheel, kept hearing her whispering, her voice so soft, but faintly coming through, "William..."

The sound suddenly made Yannis frown. Just how deep was the bond between his brother and her, and where did William place Cherish in his heart?

In the hospital ward, Chloe Turner was having a drip.

Yannis Griffith sat by her side, the doctor’s words ringing in his head, "The patient can’t be stressed anymore, it will exacerbate her illness. Moreover, her current mental state is very poor, she is suffering from anemia, decreased immunity, and her gastrointestinal system is under neurotic pressure, leading to her inability to eat normally. She needs to stay positive and maintain an optimistic attitude."

Yannis looked at Chloe who was asleep, feeling helpless.

Chloe woke up that afternoon but still couldn’t eat anything. She took two sips of porridge and pushed the bowl away, unable to continue eating. After a few days on IV nutrition at the hospital, she couldn’t stand the smell of the disinfectant and insisted on leaving the hospital. Persuasion from anyone was useless.

Back home, Chloe either lay on the sofa watching TV or holed up in the study reading. She did eat, but very little. If forced to eat more, she would vomit it out. Seeing her get thinner and thinner, Yannis was at a loss, not knowing what to do.

Until one day, Yannis rushed to visit her during his lunch break. He found her asleep on the windowsill, wearing a white nightgown, leaning her head against the glass window. Her slender arms were wrapped around a box of candy. The sun’s rays shone on it, and the juice from the candy had seeped through the wrapper as though about to melt in the baking heat.
