Chapter 445: Chapter 446: The Abandoned Candy

Cherish Turner hadn’t expected him to say such words. She used to think that William Griffith’s world was both mysterious and so distant, so lofty. But one day, he suddenly brought her into his world, and as she began to understand his past, she felt a bit dazed.

After work, William Griffith came to pick her up for dinner. After finishing dinner, Cherish Turner bought fresh fruit from a nearby fruit shop. They couldn’t go empty-handed to visit her sick sister, Chloe Turner. Thinking that fruit would be a good gift, they proceeded. He then drove her to the apartment where Chloe Turner lived, and on the way, Cherish Turner pondered what to say when they met.

In a blink of an eye, Cherish Turner was standing at Chloe Turner’s apartment door, following William Griffith’s lead.

She pressed the doorbell, waiting quietly for it to open.

The cold, refreshing air brushed against both of them as the door opened. Chloe Turner, wearing a nightgown and with her long hair disheveled, walked up to greet them, barefoot. She thought it would be Yannis Griffith visiting, but stopped in her tracks when she saw the man standing outside her door.

Looking up at William Griffith, Chloe Turner exclaimed in surprise, "William? What are you doing here?"

"I heard you weren’t feeling well, so we came to visit," answered William Griffith indifferently.

The word ’we’ in his sentence made Chloe’s original joy freeze momentarily. William Griffith moved aside, revealing Cherish Turner standing behind him, holding a fruit basket. Cherish Turner smiled faintly, asking softly, "Are... are you feeling any better?"

Cherish Turner could not bring herself to call her sister.

Chloe Turner’s smile faded, "Come in and sit down. Thank you for coming to see me." In front of William Griffith, Chloe had no other choice but to be polite.

Inside the apartment’s living room, Cherish Turner and William Griffith sat side by side as Chloe busied herself around them, "What do you want to drink? I only have juice, is that alright?"

"Anything is fine; you don’t have to go through all this trouble," Cherish Turner hurriedly replied.

"Let’s just have juice then." Chloe Turner walked into the kitchen and grabbed the juice from the fridge.

Hearing her words, Cherish Turner didn’t say anything else. She turned to look at Chloe’s bustling figure, unsure if this was considered an awkward conversation. Even though they were acting friendly, there was still a slight unease. Cherish’s gaze shifted towards the glass jar on the coffee table.

The jar was filled with candies in vibrant colors, a pleasant sight.

Chloe Turner walked back with a glass of juice in hand and sat down across from them. She smiled and said, "You should have told me earlier so that I could prepare better."

"How’s your health?" William Griffith asked in a deep voice.

"It’s okay, just a bit anemic. I’m sorry for making you worry," Chloe answered frankly.

"If you’re anemic, you should eat more pig liver, spinach, and black fungus. They’re all good for replenishing blood. Make sure to rest well." Cherish remembered when her mother was anemic, she would eat these things, so she spoke with concern.

"Take care of yourself," William Griffith chimed in, their harmony in sync.

Chloe Turner looked at the glass jar filled with candies and nodded faintly, "I will."

Then there was a moment of silence. William Griffith stood up, "We won’t disturb your rest; we should get going."

"You don’t have to see us out," Cherish said when she saw Chloe moving to get up.

"Alright then. I won’t see you off." Chloe bid farewell with a smile, watching them leave.

Once the door closed, the apartment suddenly felt empty.

Chloe Turner picked up the glass jar and clung to it tightly, unwilling to let go.
