That morning, around nine o’clock, Cherish Turner was still in her wrinkled skirt, her hair uncombed, having just washed her face. She heard the doorbell ring and thought William might have forgotten his key, so she quickly put down her towel and ran out of the bathroom. As she opened the door, her smile froze and her expression became somewhat unnatural.

Chloe Turner looked gorgeous, carrying a straw bag in her hands, as she smiled and called out, "Miss Turner."

"Chloe." Cherish didn’t expect her sister to find the place. She thought that their relationship must be more than casual as this was William Griffith’s private residence.

"Is William not home?"

"He’s out. Do you want to come in and wait?"

"No, if he comes back, please tell him I’ll wait for his call."

With that simple sentence, Chloe left gracefully. She always seemed to have a sense of superiority over Cherish, which made her very uncomfortable. Although the two women shared the same blood, having sisterly feelings between them was difficult for both.

Cherish couldn’t maintain her elegance and calmness, like Chloe could. The silence of William made her increasingly anxious. She shouldn’t be so narrow-minded since their past was something she couldn’t change or intervene. Even though they weren’t in a relationship then, they were at least friends who could have meals, meetings, and share their thoughts. Moreover, they had known each other for so long.

She trusted him and gave him enough space.

However, she just couldn’t act as if nothing had happened.

The fact they knew each other from five years ago seemed like a stepping stone she couldn’t cross, firmly placed between them.

At this moment, she was having a meeting at the comic company. The real estate developers were coming to Seaside City soon to choose the final development plan. Cherish was momentarily distracted, and Chief Editor Sally had to call her several times to bring her back to reality. She apologized profusely, but Sally didn’t say anything, treating her with kindness. Cherish looked around the meeting table and began to explain Griffith’s vacation area development project.

When the meeting ended, Cherish returned to her office.

She wondered if they should have dinner together and took out her phone to give him a call.

But then she noticed a new text message on her phone.

It was from her mother, asking if she had time in the evening.

Cherish immediately replied, saying she had time. She agreed to meet her mother after work. As soon as she finished texting, William called. His deep, steady voice came through the phone, "I have plans with my friends tonight. We won’t have dinner together. You can go home early."

Cherish gripped her phone tightly and only managed to say, "Okay."

She wanted to ask him something, but couldn’t get the words out.

William, did you make plans with Chloe?

Cherish initially thought her mother wanted to talk to her about William, but when she arrived home, she realized her mother was actually discussing a trip. The schedule had been set, and she asked Cherish to organize her own life while her parents were away. Cherish agreed without hesitation.

The two chatted for a while, and as it was getting late, Cherish prepared to leave. Before she left, her mother went to fetch freshly baked cookies, asking her to wait a moment. Cherish noticed that the trash can was full, so she decided to take it out downstairs.
