Chapter 399 - 399 400 That White Swan

Chapter 399: Chapter 400: That White Swan Chapter 399: Chapter 400: That White Swan When she got up in the morning, her parents told her that Tanigawa had a temporary matter and had already gone back to Japan, without having time to say goodbye to her.

It was also her fault, as she hadn’t properly entertained Tanigawa while he was here. Thinking back, she felt a little regretful. She tried calling Tanigawa, but his phone was off, probably on the plane.

Afterward, she stared at her own phone, lost in thought. William Griffith hadn’t contacted her.

This Saturday, there were no calls or messages.

The phone was left alone on one side, silent all the time.

By Sunday afternoon, Cherish Turner, who had been cooped up at home for the day, finally went out. Every time she went out, there was nowhere to go. She didn’t know what she wanted to do. After thinking about it over and over, she could only go and have a meal and stroll around the streets alone. As she walked down the whole street, she saw a bookstore and went in.

Inside the bookstore, there was a crowd of people, mostly students.

Carrying backpacks, the boys wearing wristbands and the girls tying their high ponytails. The fresh and beautiful faces made Cherish think of the past. She wandered through the bookstore, touching the books on the shelves one by one with her fingertips. Suddenly, her finger touched the title of a book, and she stopped as well.

It was a fairy tale.

Swan Lake by the German author Moers.

Cherish Turner opened the book and read it silently. She stood in the corner of the bookstore, in front of the bookshelf, and read the whole story. Until she read the last sentence, “As the demon revealed its ferocious face, the prince charged at it without hesitation. With the help of Olga and the group of swans, the devil was killed by the prince. From that point on, the sorcery disappeared. Olga and the handmaidens regained their human form. Then, Princess Olga and Prince Ziegfried lived happily together…”

It was a beautifully happy story. She suddenly thought of that young ballerina, Emma Hall.

Cherish closed the book and walked out of the bookstore, through the crowd.

Across the street, a man in the driver’s seat of a parked car glanced out the window unintentionally. His eyes swept across the surroundings, stopping at a spot. He saw a girl walking aimlessly out of the bookstore, alone, and then she sat down on a bench with a cone of ice cream to rest.

The sunlight was good, and her small face was calm and fair.

The car door abruptly opened, and the man got out of the car, rushing toward the other side of the road.

Cherish ate her ice cream, looking at the busy streets. Unexpectedly, she saw a tall figure approaching her. Daniel Peacock was holding several books, looking down at them while walking toward her. He suddenly raised his head and met her gaze, slightly pausing.

Daniel Peacock walked up to her calmly, looked down at her, and said, “What are you doing here?”

Cherish quickly swallowed the ice cream in her mouth and whispered, “I was free, so I came out for a walk.”

“I came to browse some books as well, for work.” Daniel Peacock said in a deep voice, but frowned as if annoyed by something.

“Oh.” Cherish nodded her head.

There was a moment of awkward silence, and no one spoke again.

“If you’re free tonight, let’s have dinner together.” Daniel Peacock suggested, pushing up his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

“I can’t, I have something to do.” Cherish stood up and gently declined.

Just then, Daniel Peacock’s colleague happened to see him and came over to greet him. Daniel Peacock glanced at Cherish and couldn’t continue the conversation.
