Chapter 389 - 389 390 Missing You
Chapter 389: Chapter 390: Missing You Chapter 389: Chapter 390: Missing You For several consecutive days, Cherish Turner found herself continually haunted by his deep voice. The four words, like a nightmare, she had been reliving over and over again. That dream, sometimes pleasant, sometimes unpleasant, would make her wake up with a smile, or leave her feeling empty and lost as if something important was missing after awakening.
It was a feeling she had never experienced before.
Every day, there would be an international call from William Griffith. Most of the time, he called her after work.
It seemed that he didn’t want to disturb her during work.
Their conversations were always succinct, with basic exchanges such as “Have you eaten?” or “What are you doing now?” After a few sentences, he would lower his voice and say, “I’m going to hang up now,” and terminate the call without hesitating. And she didn’t push for more conversation, didn’t ask him why he hadn’t come back yet.
Despite her concerns, was William Griffith in some sort of unforeseen circumstance?
But what right did she have to ask him?
After work, Cherish Turner would wander aimlessly on the streets alone.
She didn’t want to go home but didn’t know where else to go. She didn’t know when, but she found herself missing their shared meals and walks with their fingers laced together. His warm, dry hands, his roguish smile, and the scent of his cologne mixed with cigarette smoke. She even missed his cold stoicism.
At seven in the evening in the city by the sea, neon lights flashed brightly.
The lights, seen from afar, formed a sea of lights, like a path leading people home.
Cherish Turner grabbed some food randomly and filled her stomach. The cream bread didn’t taste good; it was too sweet for her liking. The milk tea was okay, however, as it was very rich and aromatic. She walked silently onto the overpass, her left hand holding a handbag and her right hand holding the milk tea.
Standing in the middle of the overpass, she looked down at the wide highway below.
The flow of traffic, the flow of vehicles, the people wandering around the city all had expressionless faces.
“Beep beep—” The ringtone of her phone echoed faintly from her bag. Panicking, she quickly fetched her phone. She glanced at the screen, her happy expression instantly faded. A soft smile surfaced on her face as she picked up the call.
The call was from Grace Harper.
The sound at the other end of the call was quite chaotic with music, shouting and laughter indicating a large crowd. Grace Harper informed her that a project led by Yannis of the Griffith Group had just been concluded successfully, and the team was celebrating in a pub. She passed along the pub’s address and added that Edward Smith and Hailey Griffith were also present, asking if she was coming.
Listening to her energetic voice, Cherish Turner quietly replied, “No, you guys carry on. I won’t be coming.”
“Cherish, hold on a moment. Let me let Hailey speak to you.” Grace Harper cautioned, immediately passing the phone to Hailey.
Hailey Griffith’s voice was calm and soothing as she said, “Cherish, you should come.”
“Hailey, I’m not coming,” Cherish Turner hesitated, “We’ll meet up another time, yeah?”
“In that case, I won’t push it. We’ll meet another time then.” Hailey Griffith said with a smile. Cherish responded with an “Mmm,” and ended the call.
Cherish Turner put her phone back into her handbag, stepped forward, and kept walking.
The sidewalk of the overpass was brightly lit. Every now and then, people would pass by her side, couples walking hand in hand, or students in a hurry.
Looking up slowly, Cherish Turner noticed a tall figure standing at the stairway at the end of the corridor.
The figure made her pause, it looked so familiar.
He was a man with dark hair with tints of gold, dressed in a sky-blue shirt with a suit jacket casually slung over his shoulder, exuding a sense of carefree charm. Standing sideways, he was looking at the billboard on the wall, sporting a wildly handsome face. His eyes, unblinking and focused, contained a surprising amount of stubbornness and determination.
