Chapter 763: Chapter 764: Garden_1

The Black Mist was dispersed by the fierce wind kicked up by Xiao Ji. Enraged, Xiao Ji let out a piercing cry and swung its wings violently, and the sky was filled with the loud sound of spatial fragmentation as a crack slowly appeared in the air.

"Crimson Judgement? Was that really necessary..."

Feng Yuan recognized at a glance that it was Xiao Ji’s unique move. Agunas rolled his eyes, tossed aside the book in his hand, and the Nether Cross wooden boat directly lifted Feng Yuan into the air. Feng Yuan pulled Xiao Ji into a tight hug and whispered,

"There, there, don’t be angry. That was just an illusion, so let’s not be reckless, okay?"

Held tightly by Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji gradually calmed down. Seeing Xiao Ji regain its senses, Feng Yuan breathed a sigh of relief, and Agunas piloted the wooden boat slowly back to the ground.

"Are you alright?"

Chen Xin looked at Feng Yuan with some concern. Naturally, everyone could guess that the crack in the sky was Xiao Ji’s handiwork. Feng Yuan said somewhat sheepishly,

"Sorry, it might have seen some unsettling illusion."

Everyone laughed understandingly, as this was a common occurrence. The biggest flaw with moves that created illusions was exactly this: if you accidentally hit a sensitive spot, the target could easily go berserk. Xiao Ji nestled its head into Feng Yuan’s embrace with a bit of embarrassment. After stroking Xiao Ji’s feathers, Feng Yuan put it down on the ground and said,

"Alright, it’s fine now. I saw a pavilion and a pond in the center when I was in the air just now. We might need to go there and check things out."

"The center, huh? But indeed, if there’s something significant, it’s usually located in such places."

Chen Xin nodded and walked to the front of the group to lead. Feng Yuan looked at Agunas with a puzzled expression and asked,

"What’s wrong?"

Agunas gestured towards the crack in the sky and said,

"What do you plan to do about this?"

"That’s Little Green Snake’s job, of course~"

Feng Yuan said with a smile as he glanced at the Little Green Snake. The snake shook its tail and looked up at the crack in the sky. Waving its tail, a nameless power slowly began to envelop the sky crack, and gradually, with the influence of this mysterious force, the crack began to heal.

Agunas, swinging his tail, watched Xiao Ji and Little Green Snake with curiosity and observed the surroundings, pondering over something.

"Weird, why do I feel like we’re walking in circles?"

At this moment, someone sensed something was wrong and voiced their concern. Another person pointed to a big tree on the side and said,

"If I’m not mistaken, we’ve passed under this tree several times already."

"An infinite passage again? Isn’t this getting a bit boring?"

Someone complained discontentedly. Previously, in the main house, every stage had different challenges which kept everyone excited, but here, nothing particularly special had come up, and now to possibly reuse the infinite passage trick felt disappointing.

"It shouldn’t be. At least along the way, there hasn’t been anything noteworthy to investigate."

Dou Yanlan said calmly. She realized that previous spaces employing infinite loops either served as a barrier to prevent people from returning or drew attention to easily overlooked details. Yet now, similar elements were absent.

The path out of the garden was blocked by vines, and along the way, Dou Yanlan had not seen anything exceptional; aside from bushes, there were no unique plants.

"Then why is this happening?"

It was at this point that Big Cat jumped out again to remind everyone, meowing and making an attacking motion towards the bushes. Dou Yanlan and Chen Xin seemed to understand something, looked at each other, and said,

"The vines are shifting?!"

"Exactly, there’s no need to employ spatial powers to create an infinitely repeating space here. Simply by making those bushes move, it would seem like a loop with no exit."

"So what do we do now..."

Chen Xin hesitated for a moment, and Dou Yanlan, looking at the bushes in front of her, said,

"Blast it open!"

Upon hearing Dou Yanlan’s words, some impulsive students immediately ordered their Beast Tamers to attack the thicket of bushes. The moves struck the bushes, successfully creating a gap, but at the same time, a ghost-like apparition screamed and charged towards the direction of the attacker.

The sudden change startled the unprepared crowd, and the spectacle of the blasted bushes dripping red drops sent a chill up everyone’s spines.

"After all, this isn’t a puzzle game..."

Feng Yuan hugged Xiao Ji tightly and said helplessly, and Qi Chen took a deep breath and said with resignation,

"Such sudden attacks are really frightening..."

"Who would’ve thought that we’d just be bored walking until now..."

Hugging Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan said, though purely speaking of comfort, Pomiti was more comfortable to hug than Xiao Ji, but Pomiti was more like a pillow, while the Death-type Xiao Ji could give a sense of security.

Death-type Spirit Beasts, which counter Ghost Series, have quite an advantage against disorderly spirits and ghosts; it can be said that Death Series can usually fight across ranks against Ghost Series, though that wouldn’t work starting from the Legendary Level.

"As long as we dodge it, we should be fine..."

Although they were startled, the group didn’t plan to give up just yet, and the lack of other changes also confirmed that they needed to break through the shrubbery to continue moving forward.

"Ah!!!"

However, it seemed not so straightforward. Just as everyone was mentally prepared for the spirits to emerge from their attack point, those entities broke the rules and directly floated out from behind the group with a creepy laugh, even taking a few laps around the more timid students.

Perhaps it was due to Xiao Ji’s deterrent effect, as none of those spirits dared to approach Feng Yuan. At this point, Chen Xin stopped her classmates from wantonly destroying their surroundings and said,

"Stop!"

"Listen to me, we should not destroy too much of these shrubberies. It’s enough just to make an opening for us to get through. Take a look at how frightened everyone else is."

There was no choice; those specter-like beings were getting wildly inventive with how they appeared, making even the bolder students a bit queasy.

Only then did those venting their desire for destruction notice the abnormal state of their peers and, with an embarrassed chuckle, quickly recalled their Beast Tamers. Though those ghostly figures continued to be frightening, having been prepared mentally, the group was not as scared as before.

"There should be new developments, right?"

Feng Yuan curiously surveyed the surroundings, thanks to Xiao Ji, spirits had not dared to harass him. Qi Chen glared at Feng Yuan and said,

"Don’t jinx us!"

"What’s that noise?!"

Chen Xin shouted alertly. It seemed she had heard something strange. Agunas glanced behind and said,

"As expected, there’s a change."

"A chase?"

Feng Yuan turned his head and immediately grasped what was about to happen, the rest of the group quickly followed suit. The surging black water from behind was likely similar to the all-devouring darkness in the main house, submerging everything within reach with its rushing sound.

With black water in pursuit, the group couldn’t keep slowly threading through the path anymore. They bombarded the blocking shrubbery with their most powerful moves, with the more timid students simply closing their eyes and grabbing the hands of the bolder ones to pull them forward.

All sorts of strange cries, laughter, and murmurs erupted around them. Due to the reckless bombardment, devils were running wild, with all sorts of chaotic spirits and ghosts emerging everywhere.

"This is... terrible..."

Even Feng Yuan couldn’t avoid being harassed at this point. Luckily, they weren’t far from the garden’s center. The group quickly broke through the shrubbery barrier and rushed into the pavilion at the center of the garden.

The black water that followed seemed to be blocked by something, flowing along the round channel on the perimeter of the pristine white marble floor of the garden center and spreading outward, swiftly trapping the group in the center of the garden.

Feng Yuan looked around the center of the garden. There was a pavilion, a pond, and stone tables and chairs, presumably for the owner to rest in the garden.

Despite the garden having been restored to its original state by some unknown force, it still seemed somewhat bleak – perhaps because its owner was long gone?

"So many random things..."

Feng Yuan observed the heaps of various objects on the ground rather speechlessly. On the stone table, there was only a doll resembling a little girl standing there all alone.

At that moment, someone attempted to pick up the doll but was startled by a suddenly appearing spirit that howled and disappeared after the person retracted their extended hand.

"Shouldn’t be touched?"

Feng Yuan was somewhat surprised; that thing seemed to be the mechanism.
