Chapter 762: Chapter 763 Escape_1
"What the hell?!"
After getting permission, Big Cat happily rushed towards the reception room and pointed at the trophies displayed there. When Agunas translated, Dou Yanlan activated some mechanism by rearranging the trophies in chronological order, and with a click, it seemed as if something had been triggered.
As the sound echoed, the room seemed to fall into a tumultuous flow of time. Many items became ancient, while many others appeared brand new, and a vague figure of a person began to emerge.
The sudden change startled everyone who had already lowered their guard, and those who had just calmed down were frightened again. Feng Yuan hugged Xiao Ji and said,
"There isn’t going to be some evil ghost popping out, right?"
Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan and said nothing. Even if an evil ghost did appear, it would probably be scared off by Feng Yuan—ghost series natural enemies were not to be trifled with.
"Shouldn’t be..."
A female classmate who was quite afraid of ghosts whispered, and her friend comforted her while casting a dissatisfied glance at Feng Yuan. Chen Xin said somewhat speechlessly,
"It’s unlikely. Evil ghosts are hard to control. Projections and the like are more likely; releasing real evil ghosts could easily lead to safety accidents."
Though she said that, Chen Xin remained secretly vigilant since she was the organizer of this event, and any accident would be difficult to handle.
After a while, the braver students solved all the puzzles with Big Cat’s help, and by then, the entire reception room had descended into chaos with a messy array of new, old, damaged, and preserved items scattered throughout.
The ghostly figure, which had been vague, was now fully visible as a middle-aged man. Feng Yuan recognized him as being identical to the middle-aged man in the photographs, although he looked somewhat older in comparison.
The man seemed to be speaking, but no one could hear a sound, or to put it another way, even if someone understood lip reading, it would be useless because the man was only moving his mouth, and speaking was just everyone’s own conjecture.
"Dammit! The door is blocked!"
Chen Xin’s expression was unsightly. They had finally solved the mechanisms, but the darkness outside had somehow spread to the corridor outside the door, and the speed at which it spread was accelerating, soon threatening to devour the room.
With a loud bang, one student forcefully closed the door, but it did nothing to hold back the darkness, which gradually devoured the door and advanced into the room.
"Looks like we have to start over."
A student said helplessly. The way to the main entrance was now completely sealed off; they simply couldn’t leave. At that moment, the ghost sternly pointed towards the window, and a wave of black ripples spread from it.
The mysterious force blew open the window to reveal a hidden staircase behind it. Seeing this, the people quickly realized that the exit was actually here, and they hurriedly left through the staircase. Before leaving, Feng Yuan turned to look at the ghost glaring at the darkness and muttered in a low voice,
"This doesn’t seem to be just for scaring people... What exactly is the truth?"
"Hurry down!"
Seeing Feng Yuan lagging behind, Qi Chen yelled from below. Feng Yuan grabbed Xiao Ji and jumped down from the staircase. Xiao Ji let out a cry and a beam of black light supported them, allowing them to land gently. Although Xiao Ji had not mastered the anti-gravity field, it could exert a similar ability, which is why Feng Yuan dared to do that.
The darkness surged out from the breach, slowly spreading from inside out, and eventually, the grand estate was consumed by the shadow, which completely enshrouded the main house.
"Too bad we didn’t get far enough away, huh~"
Feng Yuan said with a hint of regret, to which Qi Chen responded with a speechless glance,
"Not everyone has the stamina to run several laps around a manor. Please don’t apply the rules of games to reality, okay?"
"Who says that? Wait till you graduate, you’ll be able to run dozens of laps around here without even getting winded, alright?"
"Speaking of which, what kind of challenges would those powerful Beastmasters face? Given what we’ve encountered before, it seems they wouldn’t even flinch, let alone be scared, right?"
Qi Chen asked out of curiosity, to which Feng Yuan shook his head and replied,
"Don’t know. Why don’t you ask the staff later?"
"Where would I go to ask... we haven’t come across a single staff member here, okay..."
Qi Chen said somewhat exasperatedly. Perhaps due to the competence of the staff here, all that appeared before the group were various phantoms, illusions, and stand-ins, leaving no chance for any interaction.
"Then ask that gatekeeper when we get out~"
"What gatekeeper... That person is the butler here, okay?"
"Butler?!"
"Yeah, it seems like the original owner of this mansion turned it into a haunted house. I just don’t get what they were thinking. Why would they do that instead of living in it? It’s such a nice house."
"Jealous?"
"Jealous my ass! It’s not like my family doesn’t have a villa!"
Qi Chen was left speechless by Feng Yuan’s comment. Before, he might not have been able to argue, but now his family had obtained a villa for free. Although it was much smaller than this one, wasn’t it true that such a large place was too big for most people to live in anyway?
"Where to next?"
Chen Xin was asking everyone at the moment. The main house of the Foreyn mansion was situated right in the center, with two sets of buildings on either side, and a garden at the back. Where they stood, the distance to any direction was about the same.
"How about the garden?"
Feng Yuan casually suggested, and many people agreed with his proposal, especially since they had all just been through a chase, and were somewhat averse to the oppressive indoor spaces.
"The garden? I don’t think there’ll be any surprises there."
Since most of the vocal members agreed, Chen Xin naturally wouldn’t object, but Zhong Liuyan approached with a puzzled look and said to Feng Yuan,
"Is there something special in the garden? Why do I feel like your suggestion has an ulterior motive?"
"Nah..."
"The chances of a chase happening are much higher in the garden than in other places. After all, it’s not safe to be running around in tight indoor spaces."
Agunas explained calmly, and Zhong Liuyan’s face changed as she glared at Feng Yuan dissatisfied,
"That’s your reason?"
"Ah, you’ve got to exercise to stay healthy!"
Feng Yuan said without a trace of embarrassment, not about to explain that he only said it because he didn’t want to keep going around in circles inside the house.
As the last person stepped into the garden, the entrance was suddenly sealed off by emerging vines, and the surrounding plants, which had been withered and yellow, abruptly came back to life.
The lush greenery and colorful flowers did not evoke much amazement in anyone but rather sent chills down their spines.
"Why do those things look off to me..."
Qi Chen said with an uneasy whisper, and Feng Yuan observed before saying,
"The colors are all wrong. Those plants’ colors aren’t natural. They’ve been mixed with something else, which of course makes you feel uncomfortable."
The excessively vibrant flowers moved as if by their own will, and the strange murmurs echoed in everyone’s ears. Occasionally, something weird rustled through the shrubs that made the garden maze.
"They’re probably regretting it now."
Dou Yanlan said calmly after surveying the group, and Feng Yuan laughed awkwardly,
"I didn’t expect it to be like this, I thought that..."
"Stop it!"
Qi Chen quickly stopped Feng Yuan, genuinely concerned that Feng Yuan’s words might come true, though he had no idea what he was about to say. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn’t going to be anything good.
Startled by something, crows in the trees flew off, cawing above their heads, circling for a long time, unwilling to leave.
"What’s with those crows? Xiao Ji, go chase them away."
Feng Yuan seemed quite annoyed with the crows as he spoke to Xiao Ji in his arms. Thrown into the air by Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji flapped its wings and quickly approached the crows. Suddenly, the crows exploded into a cloud of black mist, startling Xiao Ji and everyone watching the change in the sky.
The black mist spread rapidly, revealing an abstract human face that glared angrily at Xiao Ji and blew a stream of black mist violently.
"Bad news!"
Seeing this, Feng Yuan had a bad feeling, and Agunas looked at him speechlessly, knowing this guy always managed to stir up trouble. After the black mist enveloped Xiao Ji for a moment, Xiao Ji let out a shriek of terror. Agunas covered its face with a little paw and said helplessly,
"This is bad..."
